Domains of accretive operators in Banach spaces
2016
LetD(A)be the domain of anm-accretive operatorAon a Banach spaceE. We provide sufficient conditions for the closure ofD(A)to be convex and forD(A)to coincide withEitself. Several related results and pertinent examples are also included.
A note on the Banach space of preregular maps
2011
The aim of this paper is to give simple proofs for Jeurnink's characterizations of preregular maps in terms of Θ-maps acting between Banach lattices. For Banach lattices E and F, we achieve our goal by considering the space Lβ(E, F) of all those linear maps T: E → F for which there exists a constant K such that {double pipe}Vn i=1 {pipe}Txi{pipe} ≤ K {double pipe}Vn i=1{pipe}xi for all finite sequences x1, ..., xn e{open}E. We show that, if Lβ(E; F), and the spaces L Θ (E; F) of Θ -map and Lpr(E; F) of preregular maps are respectively endowed with their canonical norms, then they are identical Banach spaces
Symmetric identities in graded algebras
1997
Let P k be the symmetric polynomial of degree k i.e., the full linearization of the polynomial x k . Let G be a cancellation semigroup with 1 and R a G-graded ring with finite support of order n. We prove that if R 1 satisfies $ P_k \equiv 0 $ then R satisfies $ P_{kn} \equiv 0 $ .
Boundaries for algebras of analytic functions on function module Banach spaces
2013
We consider the uniform algebra of continuous and bounded functions that are analytic on the interior of the closed unit ball of a complex Banach function module X. We focus on norming subsets of , i.e., boundaries, for such algebra. In particular, if X is a dual complex Banach space whose centralizer is infinite-dimensional, then the intersection of all closed boundaries is empty. This also holds in case that X is an -sum of infinitely many Banach spaces and further, the torus is a boundary.
Strict u-ideals in Banach spaces
2009
We study strict u-ideals in Banach spaces. A Banach space X is a strict u-ideal in its bidual when the canonical decomposition X = X X ? is unconditional. We characterize Banach spaces which are strict u-ideals in their bidual and show that if X is a strict u-ideal in a Banach space Y then X contains c0. We also show that '1 is not a u-ideal.
Resolvent Estimates for Non-Selfadjoint Operators via Semigroups
2009
We consider a non-selfadjoint h-pseudodifferential operator P in the semiclassical limit (h → 0). If p is the leading symbol, then under suitable assumptions about the behavior of p at infinity, we know that the resolvent (z–P)–1 is uniformly bounded for z in any compact set not intersecting the closure of the range of p. Under a subellipticity condition, we show that the resolvent extends locally inside the range up to a distance \(\mathcal{O}(1)((h\ln \frac{1}{h})^{k/(k + 1)} )\) from certain boundary points, where \(k \in \{ 2,4, \ldots \} \). This is a slight improvement of a result by Dencker, Zworski, and the author, and it was recently obtained by W. Bordeaux Montrieux in a model sit…
Hybrid bases for varieties of semigroups
2003
We consider the lower part of the lattice of varieties of semigroups. We present finite bases of hybrid identities for the varieties of normal bands, commutative bands and abelian groups of finite exponent. The variety A n,0 of abelian groups provides an example of a variety which has no finite base of hyperidentities (cf. [12]) but has a finite base of hybrid identities.

THE POLYNOMIAL NUMERICAL INDEX OF A BANACH SPACE
2006
AbstractIn this paper, we introduce the polynomial numerical index of order $k$ of a Banach space, generalizing to $k$-homogeneous polynomials the ‘classical’ numerical index defined by Lumer in the 1970s for linear operators. We also prove some results. Let $k$ be a positive integer. We then have the following:(i) $n^{(k)}(C(K))=1$ for every scattered compact space $K$.(ii) The inequality $n^{(k)}(E)\geq k^{k/(1-k)}$ for every complex Banach space $E$ and the constant $k^{k/(1-k)}$ is sharp.(iii) The inequalities$$ n^{(k)}(E)\leq n^{(k-1)}(E)\leq\frac{k^{(k+(1/(k-1)))}}{(k-1)^{k-1}}n^{(k)}(E) $$for every Banach space $E$.(iv) The relation between the polynomial numerical index of $c_0$, $l…
Property (w) and perturbations
2007
A bounded linear operator T ∈ L(X) defined on a Banach space X satisfies property (w), a variant of Weyl’s theorem, if the complement in the approximate point spectrum σa(T ) of the Weyl essential approximate spectrum σwa(T ) coincides with the set of all isolated points of the spectrum which are eigenvalues of finite multiplicity. In this note, we study the stability of property (w), for a bounded operator T acting on a Banach space, under perturbations by finite rank operators, by nilpotent operator and quasi-nilpotent operators commuting with T .
