Electronic Health Record in Italy and Personal Data Protection.

2016

The present article deals with the Italian Electronic Health Record (hereinafter ehr), recently introduced by Act 221/2012, with a specific focus on personal data protection. Privacy issues — e.g., informed consent, data processing, patients’ rights and minors’ will — are discussed within the framework of recent e-Health legislation, national Data Protection Code, the related Data Protection Authority pronouncements and eu law. The paper is aimed at discussing the problems arising from a complex, fragmentary and sometimes uncertain legal framework on e-Health.

Clifford Rotors for Conceptual Representation in Chatbots

2013

In this abstract we introduce an unsupervised sub-symbolic natural language sentences encoding procedure aimed at catching and representing into a Chatbot Knowledge Base (KB) the concepts expressed by an user interacting with a robot. The chatbot KB is coded in a conceptual space induced from the application of the Latent Semantic Analysis (LSA) paradigm on a corpus of documents. LSA has the effect of decomposing the original relationships between elements into linearly-independent vectors. Each basis vector can be considered therefore as a "conceptual coordinate", which can be tagged by the words which better characterize it. This tagging is obtained by performing a (TF-IDF)-like weighting…

Within the symbolic world of the prehistoric hunters: A GIS-based and 3D model analysis of sites with complexes of linear incisions in western Sicily

2021

Abstract The prehistoric peopling of Sicily has left scattered traces of symbolic activities through well-known rock art expressions in caves and rock shelters located all around the island (among the most significant, the sites of Addaura, Racchio and Genovese). A peculiar phenomenon is the incision of linear signs, often grouped on the same rocky walls, hidden in fissures or placed at the entrance of the underground chambers of caves. In this report, we investigate a sample of these graphic expressions from a spatial and technical point of view. A GIS-based approach presents the territorial pattern providing insight, on a macroscale, into the intentional positioning of the sign complexes.…

Immergersi nel visivo

2021

2020

In a global context in which society has become spectacle, everything turns into representation (Debord 1967). The phenomenon of nation-states fortification emerges in a problematic way with respect to the neoliberal capital-work relationship (Mezzadra e Nielson 2013). The need to build walls, in fact, is a mode of representation that is exploited for a strategic construction of alterity. The aim of this research is to highlight the “naturalization” of stereotyped imagery, prompted by mediatic and political discourses concerning the migratory phenomenon. Starting from a recognition of the critical thinking of scholars such as Michel Foucault and Louis Marin, the goal of this paper is to tak…

Semioantropologia come traduzione del vissuto

2015

It is a short ethnography of thinking written by keeping into account the dialogue established between text and images, processes of thinking and forms of codification. As a consequence, thinking is not conceived as a result of a …

Introduction – Semiotics of Digital Gastromania

2021

In this volume we have collected research papers on the cultural transformations which arise from gastronomic discourse on the net, between blogs and social networks. This online gastronomic discourse brings into question new and old media around peculiar stories and characters, and is capable of establishing itself as an instrument of interaction between users in the post-media political context. There are semiotic and interdisciplinary analyses that investigate intermedial culinary narratives from the perspectives of narrative, enunciation, passion, experience, space, gastronomy, music, cinema, life forms, media and political rhetoric, etc., in search of general invariants on the articula…

Telling Monte Pellegrino, sacred space

2013

This article is an analysis of the sacred space of Monte Pellegrino in Palermo, on a narrative perspective. It focuses on three places in particular, the shrine of Santa Rosalia, a castle overlooking the town of Palermo, and a viewpoint for tourists and citizens overhanging the sea. This mountain represents the deep identity of the town of Palermo. Studying its semiotic form means, then, getting into the identity of the town itself through the tales and the spaces which constitutes it as a meaningful scenario.

Religion and Politics

2022

Religious beliefs often determine the life within communities. Therefore, religion often also has political implications and the interrelationship between politics and religiously motivated considerations play an important role for the daily life of many people around the globe. Very often, political leaders also tie their own measures and their respective interpretation to some kind of religious mission or interpretation of the past as well as the future. It is therefore more than important to take a closer look at the intertwined relationship between religion and politics. This issue of Global Humanities intends to do that and therefore spans different geographical and chronological conte…

Una Congiura degli Uguali: involtini & friends

2020

What makes the roll is its conformation, or little more. Even if sometimes the same shape, invested with precise substances, changes not only its name but also its position in the menu and therefore its statute. The gastronomy system, as…
