(H,ρ)-induced dynamics and large time behaviors

2018

In some recent papers, the so called (H,ρ)-induced dynamics of a system S whose time evolution is deduced adopting an operatorial approach, borrowed in part from quantum mechanics, has been introduced. Here, H is the Hamiltonian for S, while ρ is a certain rule applied periodically (or not) on S. The analysis carried on throughout this paper shows that, replacing the Heisenberg dynamics with the (H,ρ)-induced one, we obtain a simple, and somehow natural, way to prove that some relevant dynamical variables of S may converge, for large t, to certain asymptotic values. This cannot be so, for finite dimensional systems, if no rule is considered. In this case, in fact, any Heisenberg dynamics im…

Circular RNA in Exosomes

2018

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a novel family of non-coding endogenous RNAs discovered in all eukaryotic cells and generated through a particular mechanism of alternative splicing called “back-splicing”. These molecules show multiple functions, by acting as modulators of gene and miRNA expression, and may have a role in several biological processes, such as cell proliferation and invasion with, tumour development and progression, and in several mechanisms underlying other diseases. Their presence has been shown to be abundant in several body fluids such as blood and saliva. Based on their biogenesis mechanism, cir- cRNAs may be categorized into five classes: exonic circRNAs, intronic circRNAs…

Foreign language learning in multilingual Germany

2021

This special issue on foreign language (FL) learning in multilingual contextsprovides insights into cross- and inter-linguistic phenomena comparingmonolingual and multilingual students who learn FLs in linguistically het-erogeneous classrooms. All contributions are based on data gathered in pro-jects carried out within the research cluster “Language education andmultilingualism”/“Sprachliche Bildung und Mehrsprachigkeit”, which hasbeen funded by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research(Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung, BMBF) from 2013 to 2020. Bybringing together linguistic and educational perspectives on FL learning andteaching as well as different methodological a…

Injection and ultrafast regeneration in dye-sensitized solar cells

2014

Injection of an electron from the excited dye molecule to the semiconductor is the initial charge separation step in dye-sensitized solar cells (DSC's). Though the dynamics of the forward injection process has been widely studied, the results reported so far are controversial, especially for complete DSC's. In this work, the electron injection in titanium dioxide (TiO2) films sensitized with ruthenium bipyridyl dyes N3 and N719 was studied both in neat solvent and in a typical iodide/triiodide (I-/I3 -) DSC electrolyte. Transient absorption (TA) spectroscopy was used to monitor both the formation of the oxidized dye and the arrival of injected electrons to the conduction band of TiO2. Emiss…

The effects of environment on Arctica islandica shell formation and architecture

2017

Mollusks record valuable information in their hard parts that reflect ambient environmental conditions. For this reason, shells can serve as excellent archives to reconstruct past climate and environmental variability. However, animal physiology and biomineralization, which are often poorly un- derstood, can make the decoding of environmental signals a challenging task. Many of the routinely used shell-based proxies are sensitive to multiple different environmental and physiological variables. Therefore, the identification and in- terpretation of individual environmental signals (e.g., water temperature) often is particularly difficult. Additional prox- ies not influenced by multiple enviro…

Extensions and corona decompositions of low-dimensional intrinsic Lipschitz graphs in Heisenberg groups

2020

This note concerns low-dimensional intrinsic Lipschitz graphs, in the sense of Franchi, Serapioni, and Serra Cassano, in the Heisenberg group $\mathbb{H}^n$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$. For $1\leq k\leq n$, we show that every intrinsic $L$-Lipschitz graph over a subset of a $k$-dimensional horizontal subgroup $\mathbb{V}$ of $\mathbb{H}^n$ can be extended to an intrinsic $L'$-Lipschitz graph over the entire subgroup $\mathbb{V}$, where $L'$ depends only on $L$, $k$, and $n$. We further prove that $1$-dimensional intrinsic $1$-Lipschitz graphs in $\mathbb{H}^n$, $n\in \mathbb{N}$, admit corona decompositions by intrinsic Lipschitz graphs with smaller Lipschitz constants. This complements results that…

Vertical versus horizontal Sobolev spaces

2020

Let $\alpha \geq 0$, $1 < p < \infty$, and let $\mathbb{H}^{n}$ be the Heisenberg group. Folland in 1975 showed that if $f \colon \mathbb{H}^{n} \to \mathbb{R}$ is a function in the horizontal Sobolev space $S^{p}_{2\alpha}(\mathbb{H}^{n})$, then $\varphi f$ belongs to the Euclidean Sobolev space $S^{p}_{\alpha}(\mathbb{R}^{2n + 1})$ for any test function $\varphi$. In short, $S^{p}_{2\alpha}(\mathbb{H}^{n}) \subset S^{p}_{\alpha,\mathrm{loc}}(\mathbb{R}^{2n + 1})$. We show that the localisation can be omitted if one only cares for Sobolev regularity in the vertical direction: the horizontal Sobolev space $S_{2\alpha}^{p}(\mathbb{H}^{n})$ is continuously contained in the vertical Sobolev sp…
