Communication et médiation par le toucherdans quelques expositions de sciences : Limites et contraintes dans l’expérience des visiteurs

2016

This communication deals with the “general public” of visitors to a number of interactive exhibits that accord a direct or indirect role to the sense of touch in knowledge mediation and interpretation. The role of touch is discussed in terms of its limitations and constraints in communication situations. The social mobilizations of touch are not immediately evident; what are the conditions under which visitors actually use touch in experiencing an exhibit? What connections with other signifiers are the most conducive to reception? This qualitative research relies on observation and interviews. Apprehension of interactive objects appears to be dependent on the surrounding setting of sociabil…

An Automatic Ontology-Based Approach to Support Logical Representation of Observable and Measurable Data for Healthy Lifestyle Management: Proof-of-C…

2020

Background Lifestyle diseases, because of adverse health behavior, are the foremost cause of death worldwide. An eCoach system may encourage individuals to lead a healthy lifestyle with early health risk prediction, personalized recommendation generation, and goal evaluation. Such an eCoach system needs to collect and transform distributed heterogenous health and wellness data into meaningful information to train an artificially intelligent health risk prediction model. However, it may produce a data compatibility dilemma. Our proposed eHealth ontology can increase interoperability between different heterogeneous networks, provide situation awareness, help in data integration, and discover…

Adaptive range-based localization algorithm based on trilateration and reference node selection for outdoor wireless sensor networks

2022

Locating the nodes of outdoor wireless sensor networks (WSNs) using (tri)lateration with a low-cost ranging technique, such as the received signal strength indicator (RSSI), often results in inaccurate location estimates. This can mostly be explained by the combined effect of distance estimate errors and localization geometry, both of which are subject to the reference nodes used. To develop techniques for reducing localization error, the distance estimate errors and localization geometry must be analyzed and taken into account. To address these challenges, this paper aims to seek ways to improve the quality of range-based trilateration localization for WSN nodes in varying outdoor conditio…

Fundamentals of Precision Agriculture

2023

Precision agriculture or precision farming is the targeted application of crop input according to the locally determined crop needs. Therefore, it is the geo-referenced application of crop inputs, whose rates should be those required by the crop. The most essential points of information about the topic being described are: overview; brief history of precision agriculture; theoretical basics of precision agriculture; precision agriculture cycle; geo-referenced measurement of within-field parameters; analysis and interpretation of geo-referenced data for mapping within-field parameters; spatially variable rate application of crop inputs; instruments for precision agriculture; current scenario…

Choroidal thickness in glaucoma patients and glaucoma suspects measured by spectral domain coherence optical tomography

2012

Purpose: The aim of our study was to evaluate and compare retro-foveolar choroidal thickness (RFCT) of healthy subjects, individuals with intraocular hypertension, patients with primary open-angle glaucoma (POAG), patients with normal tension glaucoma (NTG) and patients with primary angle-closure glaucoma (PACG) by spectral domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT).Methods: Sixty-five healthy eyes, 30 eyes with intraocular hypertension, 90 eyes with POAG, 30 eyes with NTG and 20 eyes with PACG were included in this cross-sectional study. RFCT, foveolar retinal thickness and average retinal nerve fiber layer thickness (RNFL) were measured by SD-OCT (Spectralis HRA-OCT, Heidelberg Engineer…

Cholesterol homeostasis and retinal stress in anterior ischemic optic neuropathy

2016

Purpose: Anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (AION) is characterized by acute stress of retinal ganglion cells (RGC). Cholesterol-24S-hydroxylase (CYP46A1) is specifically expressed in RGC where it may exert neuroprotective properties by preventing from cholesterol accumulation via catalyzing the formation of 24S-hydroxycholesterol. Previous findings hypothesize the housekeeping importance of CYP46A1 in the maintenance of cholesterol in the retina. In order to better understand the role of CYP46A1 in the retina, we aimed to define whether CYP46A1 expression and 24S-hydroxycholesterol levels were modified during RGC stress in AION.Methods: Ninety nine male Sprague Dawley rats were randomized …
