Reliability, validity and feasibility of nail ultrasonography in psoriatic arthritis

2016

International audience; Objective: To determine the feasibility, reliability and validity of nails ultrasonography in psoriatic arthritis as an outcome measure. Methods: Pilot prospective single-centre study of eight ultrasonography parameters in B mode and power Doppler concerning the distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint, the matrix, the bed and nail plate. Intraobserver and inter-observer reliability was evaluated for the seven quantitative parameters (ICC and kappa). Correlations between ultrasonography and clinical variables were searched to assess external validity. Feasibility was assessed by the time to carry out the examination and the percentage of missing data. Results: Twenty-seven p…

Using the Hemophilia Joint Health Score for assessment of children: Reliability of the Spanish version

2018

Introduction: Numerous measuring instruments for the evaluation of hemophilic arthropathy have been developed. One of the most used systems is the Hemophilia Joint Health Score (HJHS) given its sensitivity to clinical changes appearing in the joints because of recurrent hemarthrosis. Objective: Assessing the interrater reliability, using the Spanish version of the HJHS (version 2.1) in children with hemophilia. Design: Reliability study to assess the interrater reliability of the Spanish version of HJHS. Methods: A sample of 36 children aged 7–13 years diagnosed with hemophilia A or B was used. Two physiotherapists performed physical assessments with the Spanish version of the HJHS. Descrip…

Pulse wave transit time measurements of cardiac output in septic shock patients: a comparison of the estimated continuous cardiac output system with …

2015

Pôle EAMERSCT3Hors Enjeu; Background We determined reliability of cardiac output (CO) measured by pulse wave transit time cardiac output system (esCCO system; COesCCO) vs transthoracic echocardiography (COTTE) in mechanically ventilated patients in the early phase of septic shock. A secondary objective was to assess ability of esCCO to detect change in CO after fluid infusion. Methods Mechanically ventilated patients admitted to the ICU, aged > 18 years, in sinus rhythm, in the early phase of septic shock were prospectively included. We performed fluid infusion of 500ml of crystalloid solution over 20 minutes and recorded CO by EsCCO and TTE immediately before (T0) and 5 minutes after (T1) …

Echocardiographic reference ranges for normal left atrial function parameters results from the EACVI NORRE study

2018

International audience; Aims - To obtain the normal ranges for echocardiographic measurements of left atrial (LA) function from a large group of healthy volunteers accounting for age and gender. Methods and results - A total of 371 (median age 45 years) healthy subjects were enrolled at 22 collaborating institutions collaborating in the Normal Reference Ranges for Echocardiography (NORRE) study of the European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI). Left atrial data sets were analysed with a vendor-independent software (VIS) package allowing homogeneous measurements irrespective of the echocardiographic equipment used to acquire data sets. The lowest expected values of LA function we…

CT angiography versus intraarterial digital subtraction angiography for assessment of aortoiliac occlusive disease.

1997

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the accuracy of CT angiography (CTA) with a single helical acquisition for assessment of stenoses and occlusions of the iliac arteries. In our prospective study, intraarterial digital subtraction angiography and IV CTA were performed from the suprarenal aorta to below the femoral bifurcation in 30 patients with vascular occlusive disease. Maximum-intensity-projection images in multiple views were also obtained. The accuracy of CTA with and without analysis of axial images was determined.Sensitivity and specificity of CTA were 100% for iliac artery occlusions with a confidence interval 85-100% and 97-100%, respectively. When axial scans were interpret…

Endoscopic assessment and grading of Barrett's esophagus using magnification endoscopy and narrow-band imaging: accuracy and interobserver agreement …

2010

Background: Three different classification systems for the evaluation of Barrett's esophagus (BE) using magnification endoscopy (ME) and narrow-band imaging (NBI) have been proposed. Until now, no comparative and external evaluation of these systems in a clinical-like situation has been performed. Objective: To compare and validate these 3 classification systems. Design: Prospective validation study. Setting: Tertiary-care referral center. Nine endoscopists with different levels of expertise from Europe and Japan participated as assessors. Patients: Thirty-two patients with long-segment BE. Interventions: From a group of 209 standardized prospective recordings collected on BE by using …

Interobserver variation in assessment of gastric premalignant lesions: higher agreement for intestinal metaplasia than for atrophy.

2013

Background Either atrophy or intestinal metaplasia of the gastric mucosa are considered premalignant lesions. The new operative link for gastritis assessment staging system is based on the detection of atrophy, and the operative link for assessment of intestinal metaplasia staging system is based on the detection of intestinal metaplasia. Good interobserver agreement is necessary for identification of any premalignant condition. Aims The aim of this study was to compare the agreement between findings of gastric atrophy and intestinal metaplasia by expert and general pathologists and to analyze the possible reasons behind any possible disagreement. Methods Patients with dyspeptic symptoms, a…

Dobutamine stress Doppler echocardiography: reproducibility and physiologic left ventricular filling patterns

1997

Qualitatively, dobutamine stress echocardiography has become an established procedure. Quantitative results are in great demand but this is still difficult due to limited endo- and epicardial border definition. Transmitral Doppler variables are strictly quantitative and less subjective. Furthermore, ischemic alterations precede systolic ones (ischemic cascade). There are preliminary reports of the utility of dobutamine stress Doppler echocardiography, but proof of reproducibility and left ventricular filling patterns are still lacking. Fourteen healthy volunteers (10 men, 4 women, median age 25.9 years, range 21-32 years) were investigated according to the usual dobutamine stress echocardio…

Analysis of myocardial perfusion or myocardial function for detection of regional myocardial abnormalities. An echocardiographic multicenter comparis…

2007

Background: Echocardiography based myocardial perfusion imaging and regional wall motion analysis are used for evaluation of coronary artery disease and regional myocardial abnormalities. Aim: This study sought to compare myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) and 2D echocardiography with regard to interobserver variability and detection of regional myocardial abnormalities. Methods: In 70 patients evenly distributed between three ejection fraction groups based on biplane cineventriculography (>55%, 35-55%, <35%), unenhanced and contrast enhanced 2D echocardiography and myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE; SonoVue (R); Bracco) were performed. Regional watt motion and myocardial pe…

Prospective evaluation of the macroscopic types and location of early Barrett’s neoplasia in 380 lesions

2007

The macroscopic appearance of early gastric cancers, classified according to the Japanese criteria, has been shown to be an important prognostic factor for local endoscopic therapy. No prospective data about the distribution of macroscopic types and their location in early Barrett's neoplasia are available, however. The present study was conducted to evaluate the clinical applicability of this macroscopic classification and to analyze the relative proportions of the different gross types in early Barrett's neoplasms and the correlation between the macroscopic classification and the stage or grade of differentiation.A total of 344 patients with 380 Barrett's neoplastic lesions who were refer…
