Motion-control techniques of today and tomorrow: a review and discussion of the challenges of controlled motion
2020
Motion-control technologies are at the core of multiple mechatronic products and applications. Wherever actuated motion takes place in machines and components, either position or force setting (or trajectory tracking), or even a combination of both, are demanded from the control system. In high-performance mechatronic systems, including micro- and/or nanoscale motion (such as data-storage devices, machine tools, manufacturing tools for electronics components, and industrial robots), the required specifications in motion performance, such as response/settling time and trajectory/settling accuracy, should be sufficiently achieved [1].
Biological nutrient removal model No.1 (BNRM1)
2004
This paper presents the results of the work carried out by the CALAGUA Group on Mathematical Modelling of Biological Treatment Processes: the Biological Nutrient Removal Model No.1. This model is based on a new concept for dynamic simulation of wastewater treatment plants: a unique model can be used to design, simulate and optimize the whole plant, as it includes most of the biological and physico-chemical processes taking place in all treatment operations. The physical processes included are: settling and clarification processes (flocculated settling, hindered settling and thickening), volatile fatty acids elutriation and gasÐliquid transfer. The chemical interactions included comprise aci…
The unusual hydrodynamical behaviour of freshwater oncolites
1997
Algal concretions are frequent in calcareous environments, occuring as individual particles (oncolites) that are easily transported during floods. Several parameters have been measured and calculated for a population of 127 particles from French streams. These oncolites have a high porosity (mean 42.7%) and a low density (mean 1.65), in respect to quartz and calcite. Oncolites have a settling velocity 1.5 times lower than that of quartz grains with the same nominal diameter. The computation of multiple correlations results in a classification in terms of decreasing efficiency: shape coefficients (Corey, ψ, and SI of Sneed and Folk), nominal diameter, density, edge sharpness and roughness. A…
Inny/obcy: doświadczenie języka i rzeczywistości (literacko-kulturowa ponowoczesność)
2017
The subject matter is developed around the Other, their presence and their personalising in the literary-cultural space. The reality becomes the source of observation (fiction and non-fiction) and reveals not only a variety of human experience in the world of multiculturalism, but also forms of “branding” the Other (rhetoric of the dominant communities towards cultural minorities) which correspond to them. The analysis of the rhetoric of speech and image permits to reveal the good and the bad side of language-cultural stereotypes, including also attitudes and behaviours affected by ideology.
