Parabolic pulse evolution in normally dispersive fiber amplifiers preceding the similariton formation regime

2006

We show analytically and numerically that parabolic pulses and similaritons are not always synonyms and that a self-phase modulation amplification regime can precede the self-similar evolution. The properties of the recompressed pulses after SPM amplification are investigated. We also demonstrate that negatively chirped parabolic pulses can exhibit a spectral recompression during amplification leading to high-power chirp-free parabolic pulses at the amplifier output.

Arbitrary Waveform Generator Based on All-Incoherent Pulse Shaping

2006

An all-incoherent technique for the generation of arbitrary electromagnetic intensity profiles is presented. It is based on spectral filtering of a broadband continuous-wave light source so that the filtered spectral density function (SDF) becomes the user-defined waveform. After large temporal modulation and subsequent distortion in a first-order dispersive medium, the incoherent mapping of the filtered SDF to the time domain occurs. Finally, optical-to-electrical conversion in a fast photodiode allows the optical intensity to be mapped into the electrical domain

Acousto-optical multiple interference devices

2008

We present a new concept for waveguide acousto-optical devices based on coupled MachZehnder interferometers driven by acoustic waves. These acousto-optical multiple interference devices use the periodic refractive index modulation induced by the acoustic wave to realize functionalities such as ON/OFF switching for an arbitrary time interval, as well as for efficient light modulation at high harmonics of the acoustic frequency and pulse shaping for, e.g., integrated Q-switches. We also discuss application of the concepts to light modulation by very high acoustic frequencies, where the acoustic wavelengths become much shorter than the optical ones.

Nonlinear pulse shaping by coherent addition of multiple redshifted solitons

2011

International audience; The injection of a phase- and amplitude-shaped pulse into a photonic-crystal fiber provides additional degrees of freedom that can significantly influence the nature of nonlinear propagation and nonlinear and dispersive interactions. This strong sensitivity of nonlinear effects-particularly the Raman soliton self-frequency shift-greatly extends the parameter space available to generate tailored output fields for applications such as microscopic imaging. By numerical simulations, we identify the relevant interpulse interactions, and we experimentally demonstrate the additional capabilities of this nonlinear pulse-shaping method.

Spectral imaging system for scaling the power spectrum of optical waveforms.

2007

We propose and analyze a new photonic system to change the scale of the optical power spectrum of an ultrashort pulse. Our device corresponds to the dual (spectral domain) configuration of a temporal imaging system. It is configured with two time lenses separated by a linear first-order dispersive medium. The specific relation between the chirp rates and the first-order dispersion coefficient is obtained. The main practical constraints are discussed, and the system performance is tested by means of a numerical simulation.

Quasi-spherical focal spot in two-photon scanning microscopy by three-ring apodization

2005

International audience; We present a beam-shaping technique for two-photon excitation (TPE) fluorescence microscopy. We show that by inserting a properly designed three-ring pupil filter in the illumination beam of the microscope, the effective optical sectioning capacity of such a system improves so that the point spread function gets a quasi-spherical shape. Such an improvement, which allows the acquisition of 3D images with isotropic quality, is obtained at the expense of only a small increase of the overall energy in the axial sidelobes. The performance of this technique is illustrated with a scanning TPE microscopy experiment in which the image of small beads is obtained. We demonstrat…

Effect of hydrothermal time on the forming specific morphology of YPO4:Eu3+ nanoparticles for dedicated luminescent applications as optical markers

2023

A way to control the desired shape and microstructure of YPO4:Eu3+ nanoparticles through the precipitation method followed by a hydrothermal treatment is reported. This method is useful for achieving very high control over the YPO4:Eu3+ formation process with the selection of appropriate synthesis parameters. In detail, the autoclave processing time allows control of the shape and size of nano-needle-shaped particles independently in both directions, as confirmed by X-ray powder diffraction, FT-IR Spectroscopy and Electron Transmission Microscopy. In order to analyse the effect of the nanoparticles’ surroundings on the excitation and relaxation processes of luminescent ions, Eu3+ ion was us…

New Technique for Aortic Valve Functional Annulus Reshaping Using a Handmade Prosthetic Ring

2011

Background Despite a wide development in aortic leaflets repair techniques, aortic valve annuloplastic procedures are still poorly investigated. We present our aortic valve annuloplastic system consisting of a handmade prosthetic ring with 2 components for reshaping the aortic annulus and sinotubular junction (STJ) and illustrates our surgical approach and clinical results. Methods Since February 2003, 45 patients with aortic valve regurgitation underwent aortic annuloplasty using the new ring. Mean patient age was 58 ± 16 years (range, 46 to 76 years). The ring has 2 components: a circular ring used to undersize the circumference of the aortoventricular junction and 3-crown-like shape ring…

Similaritons in optical fiber Raman amplifiers

2005

This thesis presents the generation of optical similaritons in a normally dispersive Raman amplifier at telecom wavelengths. The pulses experimentally characterized by FROG technique exhibit a parabolic intensity profile with a linear chirp, in good agreement with results of numerical simulations.Several theoretical features of the similaritons have been experimentally studied. The dynamics of two similaritons with same or different central wavelengths is also investigated: similaritons are robust against collisions, whereas the interaction of similaritons leads to the generation of high-repetition rate dark soliton train. The similariton properties have been finally applied into three field…

RESHAPING AS NOVEL CIRCULAR ECONOMY STRATEGY FOR SHEET METAL BASED END-OF-LIFE COMPONENTS

2022

Making materials consumes about 21% of the global energy demand a specifically metals production, it accounts for about 8% of total global energy consumption. In fact, in the past few decades, the use of lightweight alloys has become increasingly widespread in many major industrial sectors thanks to the weight reduction associated with their applications. Most lightweight materials like aluminum alloys are characterized by high-energy demands primary production cycles that are responsible for a relevant share of the global CO2 emissions. Circular economy strategies such us longer life, more intense use, repair, product upgrades, modularity, remanufacturing, component re-use and open/closed …
