The habitual nature of food purchases at the supermarket: Implications for policy making

Abstract Supermarkets have become the most important provider of food products worldwide. However, empirical evidence about how consumers make their food purchase decisions in this environment is still scarce. The present field study aimed to: i) explore how people make their in-store food purchases, and ii) identify the information they search for when making those purchases. Consumers (n = 144) were intercepted when entering the facilities of three supermarkets in two Uruguayan cities. The Quality Perception of Fresh Berries: An Empirical Survey in the German Market

AbstractThe present work aimed to investigate the main quality attributes that influence the purchase decisions of fresh berries. To this regard, an empirical survey has been conducted by interviewing 200 consumers of fresh berries at the exit of the main centers of the large scale retail trade in the city of Munich (Germany). An econometric model has been adopted to examine the relationship that single attributes has on the purchase frequency of fresh berries. Results showed that nutraceutical properties and health benefits of berries have a strong appeal to the consumers and confirmed that intrinsic attributes are determinants of consumer purchase decision

In recent years online shopping has become a popular and convenient instrument for companies to buy and sell products. However, the design of these web-shops does not offer the rich multisensory experiences than physical retailing offers. Energy savings for indoor lighting in a shopping mall: A case of study

The paper presents an application of energy saving in the final users. In particular, the case of study evaluates the energy consumptions of a big shopping mall, located in the middle part of Italy, illuminated by fluorescent lamps. In order to reduce the energy demand, the case of study shows a first solution based on LED lamps; a second step considers the adding of a building automation system, maximizing the energy saving, thanks lighting sensors that module the luminous flux taking in count of natural lighting through skylights.
Improvement of Energy Efficiency for Indoor Lighting in a Big Shopping Center

As the progressive diffusion of shopping centers in Italy, the paper analysis the potential energy savings in the indoor lighting plant, thanks to new technologies as LED lamps and Building Automation System. The case study, applied to a big shopping mall in the middle of Italy, shows great results, thanks to the high efficiency of LED technology, high number of operating hours and the implementation of a control system. An economic and environmental evaluation is reported.

Abstract This paper investigates energy saving measures for the ventilation system of large shopping centers. This kind of buildings is characterized by high yearly energy consumptions, because of the high level of operating hours and the frequent use of obsolete technologies.
