Phosphorous doping and drawing effects on the Raman spectroscopic properties of O=P bond in silica-based fiber and preform.

International audience; We report an experimental study of the doping and drawing effects on the Raman activities of phosphorus (P)-doped silica-based optical fiber and its related preform. Our data reveal a high sensitivity level in the full width at half maximum value of the 1330 cm−1 (O = P) Raman band to the P-doping level. Its increase with the P doping level does not clash with an increase in the disorder of the O = P surrendering matrix. In addition, we observe that in the central core region of the sample (higher doping level), the drawing process decreases the relative band amplitude. Superconducting size effect in thin films under electric field: Mean-field self-consistent model

We consider effects of an externally applied electrostatic field on superconductivity, self-consistently within a BCS mean field model, for a clean 3D metal thin film. The electrostatic change in superconducting condensation energy scales as $\mu^{-1}$ close to subband edges as a function of the Fermi energy $\mu$, and follows 3D scaling $\mu^{-2}$ away from them. We discuss nonlinearities beyond gate effect, and contrast results to recent experiments.

MoMo: enabling hybrid museums

Present-day museums are not mere passive institutions for the preservation of a society's cultural heritage. They have become instead learning environments, research centres and even tourist attractions. Spin filtering by proximity effects at hybridized interfaces in spin-valves with 2D graphene barriers

We report on spin transport in state-of-the-art epitaxial monolayer graphene based 2D-magnetic tunnel junctions (2D-MTJs). In our measurements, supported by ab-initio calculations, the strength of interaction between ferromagnetic electrodes and graphene monolayers is shown to fundamentally control the resulting spin signal. In particular, by switching the graphene/ferromagnet interaction, spin transport reveals magneto-resistance signal MR > 80% in junctions with low resistance × area products. Descriptions based only on a simple K-point filtering picture (i.e. MR increase with the number of layers) are not sufficient to predict the behavior of our devices. Efficient generation of restricted growth words

A length n restricted growth word is a word w=w"1w"2...w"n over the set of integers where w"1=0 and each w"i, i>1, lies between 0 and the value of a word statistics of the prefix w"1w"2...w"i"-"1 of w, plus one. Restricted growth words simultaneously generalize combinatorial objects as restricted growth functions, staircase words and ascent or binary sequences. Here we give a generic generating algorithm for restricted growth words. It produces a Gray code and runs in constant average time provided that the corresponding statistics has some local properties.

Constant sign and nodal solutions for nonlinear robin equations with locally defined source term

We consider a parametric Robin problem driven by a nonlinear, nonhomogeneous differential operator which includes as special cases the p-Laplacian and the (p,q)-Laplacian. The source term is parametric and only locally defined (that is, in a neighborhood of zero). Using suitable cut-off techniques together with variational tools and comparison principles, we show that for all big values of the parameter, the problem has at least three nontrivial smooth solutions, all with sign information (positive, negative and nodal).

Statistics-preserving bijections between classical and cyclic permutations

Recently, Elizalde (2011) [2] has presented a bijection between the set C"n"+"1 of cyclic permutations on {1,2,...,n+1} and the set of permutations on {1,2,...,n} that preserves the descent set of the first n entries and the set of weak excedances. In this paper, we construct a bijection from C"n"+"1 to S"n that preserves the weak excedance set and that transfers quasi-fixed points into fixed points and left-to-right maxima into themselves.
