The variation of acetylcholine release from myenteric neurones with stimulation frequency and train length. Role of presynaptic muscarine receptors.

1983

1. The effects of scopolamine on the release of 3H-acetylcholine (ACh) from the guinea-pig myenteric plexus were studied at different stimulation frequencies (0.03–10 Hz) and train lengths (1–180 pulses). Release of 3H-ACh was measured in the absence of cholinesterase inhibitors as the outflow of tritium from myenteric plexus-longitudinal muscle preparations preloaded with 3H-choline. 2. In control experiments the volley output of 3H-ACh declined with increasing train length and increasing stimulation frequency. Stimulation by one pulse produced the highest volley output. 3. Scopolamine facilitated the evoked output of 3H-ACh via blockade of presynaptic muscarine receptors. A significant in…

Genetic Normalized Convolution

2011

Normalized convolution techniques operate on very few samples of a given digital signal and add missing information, trough spatial interpolation. From a practical viewpoint, they make use of data really available and approximate the assumed values of the missing information. The quality of the final result is generally better than that obtained by traditional filling methods as, for example, bilinear or bicubic interpolations. Usually, the position of the samples is assumed to be random and due to transmission errors of the signal. Vice versa, we want to apply normalized convolution to compress data. In this case, we need to arrange a higher density of samples in proximity of zones which c…

Detection and correction of interferences in spectroscopy techniques

2001

By combining the apparent content curves method and the Youden method, we have developed a strategy for detecting constant and proportional errors in spectroscopy techniques. A method for elimination of spectral interferences (different of blank) is also proposed. To apply of this method there must be a matrix effect that varies with the amount of sample or a simulated matrix effect provided working under different experimental conditions that induce a variation of the analytical signal of the analyte. The proposed procedures have been applied to the determination of methyl orange in presence of phenol red, bromothymol blue and bromocresol purple.

Enhanced chemiluminescent determination of chloramphenicol and related nitro compounds by ‘on-line’ photochemical reaction

2000

The viability of tandem photochemical reaction-chemiluminescence detection was studied for a heterogeneous family of nitro compounds using chloramphenicol as a test substance. The 'on-line' chemical photodegradation of chloramphenicol was performed in a flow injection assembly by using a photoreactor consisting of a 725 cm x 0.5 mm id piece of PTFE tubing coiled around an 8 W low-pressure mercury lamp. Photodegraded chloramphenicol was detected by oxidizing photo-fragments from the parent compound and their subsequent reaction with a luminol-Co(II) system. The calibration graph was linear up to 3 x 10(-5) mol l-1 chloramphenicol, the limit of detection was 3 x 10(-9) mol l-1, the relative s…

On the Semiconductor Spectroscopy for Identification of Emergent Contaminants in Transparent Mediums

2021

In this chapter, we present a theoretical study of photoelectronic processes in experimental silicon \({n}^{+}{\text{-}}p{\text{-}}{n}^{+}\) structures with applications in identifying emergent contaminants in aqueous medium. Contribution due to various mechanisms of photon absorption to the total photocurrent is calculated. Various mechanisms, such as the influence of tunneling on the spectral characteristic and selective spectral photosensitivity of samples under investigation were investigated. The nature of the relationship between energy parameters of the absorbed waves and the structural parameters is revealed. Expressions are obtained for photocurrent with and without external diffus…

Homogeneous and inhomogeneous contributions to the luminescence linewidth of point defects in amorphous solids: Quantitative assessment based on time…

2008

The article describes an experimental method that allows to estimate the inhomogeneous and homogeneous linewidths of the photoluminescence band of a point defect in an amorphous solid. We performed low temperature time-resolved luminescence measurements on two defects chosen as model systems for our analysis: extrinsic Oxygen Deficient Centers (ODC(II)) in amorphous silica and F+ 3 centers in crystalline Lithium Fluoride. Measurements evidence that only defects embedded in the amorphous matrix feature a dependence of the radiative decay lifetime on the emission energy and a time dependence of the first moment of the emission band. A theoretical model is developed to link these properties to…

Wearable, Fiber-less, Multi-Channel System for Continuous Wave Functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy Based on Silicon Photomultipliers Detectors and …

2019

Development and in-vivo validation of a Continuous Wave (CW) functional Near Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) system is presented. The system is wearable, fiber-less, multi-channel (16×16, 256 channels) and expandable and it relies on silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) for light detection. SiPMs are inexpensive, low voltage and resilient semiconductor light detectors, whose performances are analogous to photomultiplier tubes (PMTs). The advantage of SiPMs with respect to PMTs is that they allow direct contact with the scalp and avoidance of optical fibers. In fact, the coupling of SiPMs and light emitting diodes (LEDs) allows the transfer of the analog signals to and from the scalp through thin …

Search for multiwavelength emission from the binary millisecond pulsar PSR J1836-2354A in the globular cluster M22

2019

We present a multi-band search for X-ray, optical and $\gamma$-ray emission of the radio binary millisecond pulsar J1836-2354A, hosted in the globular cluster M22. X-ray emission is significantly detected in two Chandra observations, performed in 2005 and 2014, at a luminosity of $\sim$2-3$\times$10$^{30}$ erg s$^{-1}$, in the 0.5-8 keV energy range. The radio and the X-ray source positions are found consistent within 1$\sigma$ error box. No detection is found in archival XMM-Newton and Swift/XRT observations, compatible with the Chandra flux level. The low statistics prevents us to assess if the X-ray source varied between the two observations. The X-ray spectrum is consistent with a power…

Photon reconstruction in the ATLAS Inner Detector and Liquid Argon Barrel Calorimeter at the 2004 Combined Test Beam

2011

The reconstruction of photons in the ATLAS detector is studied with data taken during the 2004 Combined Test Beam, where a full slice of the ATLAS detector was exposed to beams of particles of known energy at the CERN SPS. The results presented show significant differences in the longitudinal development of the electromagnetic shower between converted and unconverted photons as well as in the total measured energy. The potential to use the reconstructed converted photons as a means to precisely map the material of the tracker in front of the electromagnetic calorimeter is also considered. All results obtained are compared with a detailed Monte-Carlo simulation of the test-beam setup which i…
