Common variants at 27 loci have been identified as associated with susceptibility to breast cancer, and these account for ~9% of the familial risk of the disease. We report here a meta-analysis of 9 genome-wide association studies, including 10,052 breast cancer cases and 12,575 controls of European ancestry, from which we selected 29,807 SNPs for further genotyping. Physiological parameters measurements in a cardiac cycle via a combo PPG-ECG system

In this paper, we present an innovative way to measure some physiological parameters (such as the pre-ejection period, the pulse transit time, the blood pressure) in a cardiac cycle. A combo PPG-ECG system has been developed and employed to extract both the ECG signal from standard limb leads and simultaneously the photoplethysmography signal from the wrist and the forearm, to calculate the pre-ejection period. This system represents an easy and non-invasive technique to determine these biomedical parameters without using expensive impedance cardiography equipment.
Constructing co-presence through shared VR gameplay

This study analyzes how participants playing VR games construct co-presence and shared gameplay. The analysis focuses on instances of play where one person is wearing the VR equipment, and other participants are located nearby without the ability to directly interact with the game. We first show how the active player using the VR equipment draws on talk and embodied activity to signal their presence in the shared physical environment, while simultaneously conducting actions in the virtual space, and thus creates spaces for the other participants to take part in gameplay. Numerical methods for a nonlinear impact model: A comparative study with closed-form corrections

A physically based impact model-already known and exploited in the field of sound synthesis-is studied using both analytical tools and numerical simulations. It is shown that the Hamiltonian of a physical system composed of a mass impacting on a wall can be expressed analytically as a function of the mass velocity during contact. Moreover, an efficient and accurate approximation for the mass outbound velocity is presented, which allows to estimate the Hamiltonian at the end of the contact. Cable manufacturing industries are constantly trying to improve the electrical performance of power cables. During the years, it was found that one of the most relevant degradation factors influencing the cable lifetime is the presence of space charge in the insulation layer. To detect the accumulated charge, the pulsed electro-acoustic (PEA) method is the most used technique. Despite the wide use of the PEA cell, several issues are still present.
