Modelo comunitario de convivencia en educación primaria
2016
Reconsidering cultural tourism: an anthropologist's perspective
2012
After returning home from fieldwork on the Guarani reservation in Misiones, Argentina, the author was approached by one of his colleagues and asked about the difference between ethnography and ethnic tourism. The immediate response was, what do you mean by ‘ethnic tourism’? After a moment of silence, he responded that, to him, ethnic tourism meant people traveling to interact with indigenous people and experience their lifestyles and customs. This thought process brought about the interest in writing this reflective research note. This short opinion piece teases out the importance of aboriginal peoples and their culture as heritage attractions and proposes the role of anthropology in creati…
The behaviour of children during a first encounter
1976
.— The behaviour of unacquainted children in a two-child play situation was compared with the behaviour of well acquainted children. Observations were made through a one-way-screen, mainly in accord with categories adopted from ethological child studies. Tape-recorded speech was coded into 27 content categories. Choice of activity and content of play seemed to be determined mostly by the children's sex, whereas nonverbal acts and also some aspects of speech showed considerable differences between strangers and acquaintances. Looking at the other's face, gaze avoidance, immobility, and automanipulation were more frequent among unacquainted children, and walking was less frequent among them. …
Eco-Phenomenology: Philosophical Sources and Main Concepts
2018
Eco-phenomenology is a new developing trend, but its roots can be traced to philosophia naturalis (life philosophy), the philosophies of Schelling, Nietzsche, Bergson, Husserl, Merleau-Ponty, and other philosophers. The ecological turn in phenomenology is prompted by authors dealing with the problems of the human being – nature, life, the Universe. Eco-phenomenology and eco-philosophy are different teachings, eco-phenomenology being more theoretically fundamental while eco-philosophy until now more politically oriented. Eco-phenomenology appeals to us to look “Back to the Earth itself,” but that it is not enough to solve the question of the nature of nature and to recognize the meaning of n…
2012
“You won the barbarian”. D’annunzio contra Wagner. Symphonic from German to music of silence in the novels of Gabriele D’Annunzio Summary This study aims to demonstrate how music has a relevance in the prose of Gabriele D’Annunzio. It is not just an aesthetic embellishment, sound sweetening syntax, melodic accompaniment to the events described. It suggests, rather, as a real source of inspiration, texture composition that motivates and supports events and characters. By analyzing the novels most markedly musical, symbol of opposing cultural trends and conceptual changes of direction, is possible to see as a controversial figure of Wagner, whose music inspires and influences the novel Il t…
The communication of melancholy, grief, and fear in dance with and without music
2020
Professional dancers were video recorded dancing with the intention of expressing melancholy, grief, or fear. We used these recordings as stimuli in two studies designed to investigate the perception and sociality of melancholy, grief, and fear expressions during unimodal (dancing in silence) and multimodal (dancing to music) conditions. In Study 1, viewers rated their perceptions of social connection among the dancers in these videos. In Study 2, the same videos were coded for the amount of time that dancers spent in physical contact. Results revealed that dancers expressing grief and fear exhibited more social interactions than dancers expressing melancholy. Combined with the findings of …
SPEECH AND SILENCE IN CICERO'S FINAL DAYS
2014
Composed in spring of 46 BC, Cicero's Brutus emphasizes oratorical silence, in stark contrast with the prominence of the speech act found in the Pro Marcello and first Philippic. Yet in the face of those difficult times and amidst the silence that such times engender, Cicero ironically finds his voice. This paper will demonstrate Cicero's acute awareness, in his final days, of the need to employ his rediscovered voice in light of eloquence's changed role in Rome's new political climate.
Media Effects: Cumulation and Duration
2017
The cumulation of media effects describes a process during which numerous (often, but not necessarily, small) effects accumulate over time as individuals use a certain medium or specific media contents repeatedly. Cumulative effects are especially central in forming individuals' perceptions of reality and are therefore a central premise in several theories and approaches that explain media effects (e.g., cultivation, agenda-setting, or spiral of silence). Whereas effects of single stimuli typically persist only in the short term, cumulative effects of media messages are long-term effects. This entry theorizes on the processes occurring between the short-term effects of a single stimulus and…
