Signs of impaired thiamine (vitamin B1) status in feeding-migrating Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) were studied in three Baltic Sea areas, which differ in the proportion and nutritional composition of prey fish sprat (Sprattus sprattus) and herring (Clupea harengus). The concentration of n−3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n−3 PUFAs) increased in salmon with dietary lipids and n−3 PUFAs, and the hepatic peroxidation product malondialdehyde (MDA) concentration increased exponentially with increasing n−3 PUFA and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, 22:6n−3) concentration, whereas hepatic total thiamine concentration, a sensitive indicator of thiamine status, decreased with th…

The present guidelines are aimed at residents and board-certified physicians in the fields of dermatology, pediatrics, pediatric dermatology and pediatric rheumatology as well as policymakers and insurance funds. They were developed by dermatologists and pediatric dermatologists in collaboration with pediatric rheumatologists using a formal consensus process (S2k). The guidelines highlight topics such as disease severity, quality of life, treatment goals as well as problems associated with off-label drug therapy in children. Abstract This article presents the clinical case of IgA nephropathy of a patient hospitalized in order to investigate a nephritic syndrome, apparently with acute onset, discovered in the following circumstances: recurrent macroscopic hematuria, decreased urinary volume, the first episode occurring about a month ago in the context of an acute infection of upper airways, remitted under antibiotic therapy, with reappearance every 2 weeks, also accompanied by odynophagia and decreased urinary volume.

BACKGROUND: Nowadays, tonsillotomy is an accepted operating procedure for the diagnosis of tonsillar hyperplasia in small children. Up to now many different techniques such as laser, radiofrequency, coblation or micro-debrider have been used. In this study, for the first time bipolar coagulation scissors were utilized. METHODS: Up to December 2006, a total of 91 children with benign tonsillar hyperplasia were tonsillotomized by bipolar coagulation scissors. Of these 91 children, 38 (average age 74 months) were recruited for this study. Green conditions for the Suzuki reaction using microwave irradiation and a new HNT- supported ionic liquid-like phase (HNT-SILLP) catalyst

A new catalytic system based on modified halloysite nanotubes was employed in the Suzuki reaction under microwave irradi- ation. A set of solvents, times and bases was screened and the best experimental conditions were obtained when the reactions were carried out for 10 min in water–ethanol at 120 °C in presence of K2CO3 as base. Good recyclability was observed. The new catalytic system was employed using either 1 mol% or 0.1 mol%. The palladium catalyst displayed good activity, allowing the synthesis of several biphenyl compounds in high yield working with only 0.1 mol% palladium loading. Pro gradu -tutkielmani tehtävänä on kuvata ja selittää vapaaehtoisten kokemuksia Parasta Lapsille ry:n monikulttuurisista perheleireistä. Tarkoitukseni on selvittää, millaisilla selonteoilla vapaaehtoiset tekevät vapaaehtoistoimintaansa ymmärrettäväksi järjestön monikulttuurisessa perheleiritoiminnassa. Tutkimuksen näkökulma perustuu funktionaaliseen kielikäsitykseen, jonka mukaan kielelliset merkitykset ovat tilannesidonnaisia ja syntyvät siten sosiaalisessa vuorovaikutuksessa. Who enjoys listening to sad music and why?

although people generally avoid negative emotional experiences in general, they often enjoy sadness portrayed in music and other arts. The present study investigated what kinds of subjective emotional experiences are induced in listeners by sad music, and whether the tendency to enjoy sad music is associated with particular personality traits. One hundred forty-eight participants listened to 16 music excerpts and rated their emotional responses. As expected, sadness was the most salient emotion experienced in response to sad excerpts.
