FDTD simulation for electromagnetic radiated emissions in 42 V vehicle electrical systems

In this paper a full 3D approach, based on finite difference time domain method, is used to predict the electromagnetic radiated emissions from 42 V vehicle electrical loads. An experimental set-up has been arranged on purpose. A comparative analysis among measured and computed results is performed. The good agreement obtained among simulated and measured data enables to validate the numerical scheme. The proposed methodology contributes to predict electromagnetic emissions in the automotive environment since the design stage. RF-based node system for blind navigation in running activities

The system presented is oriented for use by blind adults or children in running activities at a stadium or an analogical large space. The system dynamically provides a blind person with navigation related information. Radio signal strength measurements are used in localization task. The system makes a blind person more independent in sport, eliminating the need in explicit human assistance.

A mathematical model to evaluate apparent losses due to meter under-registration in intermittent water distribution networks

Apparent losses consist of water volume drawn from the network, consumed by users but not paid for. Those due to water meter under-registration were evaluated by means of a mathematical model able to analyse the complexity of intermittent supply systems with private tanks. This supply scheme is very common in the Mediterranean area where unexpected water shortage often happens and intermittent water supply is a common practice. Fatigue crack growth behaviour of four structural steels in air and in a geothermal fluid environment

Abstract In recent years the exploitation of geothermal energy has expanded rapidly in Italy. This has created a requirement for improved drilling technology, to reduce the number of failures occuring in the drills, which is more frequent than in oil wells. This paper deals with the results obtained in FCCR tests of four materials both in air and in two types of aggressive environments. Deterioration takes place by fatigue, corrosion fatigue and hydrogen embrittlement. It is concluded that the steel G105 is a suitable substitute for S135 in drill pipes, and inspections between drillings may be adequate to prevent failure for small-curvature wells.

Braking procedure analysis of a pegs-wing ventilated disk brake rotor

2006

Fade test results of a ventilated disk brake rotor with pegs-wing performed by means of an inertia dynamometer, consisting of 14 repeated brake applications from an initial brake speed of 160 km/h down to 0 km/h, with constant deceleration are shown. The first brake application test results are compared to the FEM numerical predictions with MSC Visual Nastran on the entire disk. These conform well to the experimental data, although numerical thermal field is slightly higher than the experimental one. Besides, ventilated disk brake rotor shows great dimensional stability and the ability to dissipate a great amount of thermal flow.

Analysis of voltage dips propagation in MV distribution networks by using ATP-EMTP code

In this paper, voltage dips simulation in electric power MV distribution networks by using an improved ATP circuit-breaker model are reported. An equivalent circuit of a MV distribution system is employed. The circuit-breaker is simulated by using a tool written in MODELS language and by arranging a time-variable differential arc-conductance based on the combination of Mayr's and Cassie's equations. The simulations carried out have shown how the amplitude of the voltage dips depends on the type and location of the fault and their duration is strictly related to the circuit-breaker parameters.

PCM Thermal Energy Storage in Buildings: Experimental Study and Applications

Abstract The study aims at analyzing the performance of Phase Change Materials (PCMs) in residential housing for different climates. This paper presents the results of an experiment performed in the Concordia University Solar Simulator and Environmental Chamber research facility (SSEC, Montreal, Canada). PCM boards were embedded on the back wall of a test hut placedin the climatic chamber.
