MATLAB Co-Simulation Tools for Power Supply Systems Design
2011
ion level. Circuit simulation software as Powersim PSIM and Orcad Pspice are the most common choice for circuit modelling. In (Basso, 2008), the design and simulation of switchmode power supplies is deeply analyzed and simulation tips in several environments are proposed. ASIC simulation and verification tools as Xilinx ISE/Modelsim or Aldec ActiveHDL are available to implement the digital controller by the VHDL or VERILOG source code. Since the interaction between subsystems is the most common source of faults, testing separately analog and digital subsystems by the means of different verification tools is a severe mistake. Matlab is a powerful simulation environment for mixed-mode systems…
Designing an Experimental Research Using the Finite Element Analysis Method
2019
In order to study the impact of cutting parameters on the cutting process, several research methods can be used. The first method generally used to understand the cutting process is the experiment from which clear and precise results are obtained. However, experiments can be very costly and time-consuming. The work piece material can be damaged, the processing centre can be busy and people have to spend a lot of time observing the process and recording the data. The objective of this paper is to design an experimental research using the finite element method. In this respect, an orthogonal cutting pattern will be established using this method. This involves determining the type, the method …
A New Myohaptic Device to Assess Wrist Function in the Lab and in the Clinic – The Wristalyzer
2008
Wristalyzer is a portable robotic device combining haptic technology with electromyographic assessment. It allows to assess wrist motion in physiological and pathological conditions by applying loads and mechanical oscillations, taking into account the ergonomy and the angular positioning of the joints. The wristalyzer works in a free or loaded mode for assessment of metrics of motion and tremor, analyzes the behavior of the wrist joints and the associated muscle activities during delivery of mechanical oscillations, estimates the maximal voluntary contraction, assesses automatically the impedance of the wrist for assessment of rigidity or spasticity. Position, torques and electromyographic…
Integrating miniMin-HSP agents in a dynamic simulation framework
2004
In this paper, we describe the framework created for implementing AI-based animations for artificial actors in the context of IVE (Intelligent Virtual Environments). The minMin-HSP (Heuristic Search Planner) planner presented in [12] has been updated to deal with 3D dynamic simulation environments, using the sensory/actuator system fully implemented in UnrealTM and presented in [10]. Here, we show how we have integrated these systems to handle the necessary balance between the reactive and deliberative skills for 3D Intelligent Virtual Agents (3DIVAs). We have carried out experiments in a multi-agent 3D blocks world, where 3DIVAs will have to interleave sensing, planning and execution to be…

Real-time people counting system using a single video camera
2008
This is the copy of journal's version originally published in Proc. SPIE 6811. Reprinted with permission of SPIE: http://spie.org/x10.xml?WT.svl=tn7 There is growing interest in video-based solutions for people monitoring and counting in business and security applications. Compared to classic sensor-based solutions the video-based ones allow for more versatile functionalities, improved performance with lower costs. In this paper, we propose a real-time system for people counting based on single low-end non-calibrated video camera. The two main challenges addressed in this paper are: robust estimation of the scene background and the number of real persons in merge-split scenarios. The latter…
Online mass flow prediction in CFB boilers
2009
Fuel feeding and inhomogeneity of fuel typically cause process fluctuations in the circulating fluidized bed (CFB) process. If control systems fail to compensate for the fluctuations, the whole plant will suffer from fluctuations that are reinforced by the closed-loop controls. This phenomenon causes a reduction of efficiency and lifetime of process components. Therefore, domain experts are interested in developing tools and techniques for getting better understanding of underlying processes and their mutual dependencies in CFB boilers. In this paper we consider an application of data mining technology to the analysis of time series data from a pilot CFB reactor. Namely, we present a rather…
ESL ? A New Simulation Language for Economic Models
1990
A new simulation language for modelling economic processes is presented which allows the specification of single decision units and coordinates all their activities. The basic ideas and features of this language will be described and demonstrated through small examples.
