Objective: To evaluate the incidence of cancer within the first 15 years of life in children who underwent cardiac catheterization under the age of one year. Methods: In this retrospective, single center study, 2770 infants (7.8% with trisomy 21) were studied. All infants underwent cardiac catheterization under one year of age between January 1980 and December 1998. Newly diagnosed cancer in the first 15 years of life was assessed through record linkage to the German Childhood Cancer Registry (GCCR). Splenomegaly is one of the major clinical manifestations of primary myelofibrosis and is common also in other chronic Philadelphia-negative myeloproliferative neoplasms, causing symptoms and signs and affecting quality of life of patients diagnosed with these diseases. Central nervous system (CNS) tuberculosis (TB) is a great medical masquerader having a multi-spectral pattern of clinical presentation, thereby complicating early diagnosis and appropriate management. This review article describes clinical presentation of CNS TB in a group of 47 patients, who were managed in the Nobel Medical College and Teaching Hospital in Biratnagar, Nepal during the last 2 years. The purpose of this study was to investigate refraction at birth and during the first year of life in a large cohort of babies born in a single center in Northern Italy. We also aimed to analyze refractive errors in relation to the gestational age at birth. An observational ophthalmological assessment was performed within 24 h of birth on 12,427 newborns. Refraction was examined using streak retinoscopy after the administration of tropicamide (1%). Values in the range of between +0.50 ≤ D ≤ +4.00 were defined as physiological refraction at birth. In this work we study the evolution of intrinsic domain wall magnetoresistance (DWMR) with domain wall confinement. Clean permalloy notched half-ring nanocontacts are fabricated using a special ultra-high vacuum electromigration procedure to tailor the size of the wire in-situ and through the resulting domain wall confinement we tailor the domain wall width from a few tens of nm down to a few nm. Through measurements of the dependence of the resistance with respect to the applied field direction we extract the contribution of a single domain wall to the MR of the device, as a function of the domain wall width in the confining potential at the notch. Study of forming mechanics of magnetic field–assisted single point incremental forming

This paper describes the forming characteristics and mechanics of magnetic field–assisted single point incremental forming (M-SPIF) in which an Nd-Fe-B magnet ball tool is placed on top of a piece of sheet metal and is driven by an Nd-Fe-B magnet placed below the workpiece. To gain an understanding of the force mechanics that power M-SPIF, the tool motion and forming force were experimentally analyzed. In M-SPIF, the forming force is applied multi-directionally, and the resultant force direction is nearly colinear with the polarity of the permanent magnet ball tool. This suggests that the forming characteristics in M-SPIF may be controllable by controlling the magnetic polarity of the tool.
Infrared study of α–SiO2 single crystal under high pressure

We have measured high pressure α-quartz reflectance spectra in the mid infrared. We used single crystals, taking full profit of polarization. The quality of the spectra allows fitting the reflectance spectra. We have characterized the pressure evolution of E and A2 modes with increased precision, even in the spectral regions where they overlap. In addition, we have determined the TO-LO splitting of each mode. Some of the A2 modes show dramatic pressure variations of the LO-TO splitting, which cannot be explained only by changes in length and ionicity of individual bonds, requiring a new mechanism.
