Piezospectroscopic study of mechanical stress in Al2O3:Cr under swift heavy ion irradiation
2009
Abstract The spatial distribution of mechanical stresses in Al2O3:Cr single crystal irradiated with (1 ÷ 3) MeV/amu Kr, Xe and Bi ions has been studied by using laser confocal scanning microscopy technique. The stress level as a function of the ion penetration depth has been evaluated from depth-resolved photostimulated R-line luminescence spectra exploiting the piezospectroscopic method. As it was found, the stress field generated by swift heavy ion irradiation is composed of stresses with maximal magnitude comparable with the ultimate stress limit of ruby crystals. Experimental data are discussed in the framework of a model considering the Cr3+ atoms as individual piezosensors.
Implementation aspects of interactive multiobjective optimization for modeling environments: The case of GAMS-NIMBUS
2014
Abstract. Interactive multiobjective optimization methods have provided promising results in the literature but still their implementations are rare. Here we introduce a core structure of interactive methods to enable their convenient implementation. We also demonstrate how this core structure can be applied when implementing an interactive method using a modeling environment. Many modeling environments contain tools for single objective optimization but not for interactive multiobjective optimization. Furthermore, as a concrete example, we present GAMS-NIMBUS Tool which is an implementation of the classification-based NIMBUS method for the GAMS modeling environment. So far, interactive met…
CAD modelling of the human femur taking into account the structure of the bone
2021
The use of 3D models of the human bone system has great utility in the biomechanical study, due to the fact that these structures cannot be analyzed or tested in vivo. Within this paper, taking into consideration its real bone structure, the human femur CAD modelling is established. Firstly, a preliminary anatomical study is done, in order to highlight the fact that the thigh bone is a heterogeneous structure, consisting of several entities with different mechanical characteristics. The modelling starts from a homogenous 3D model of the femur, from which, every single separate entity is designed and finally they are assembled within a single product assembly. Therefore, the final result ens…
More Than (Single) Text Comprehension? – On University Students’ Understanding of Multiple Documents
2020
The digital revolution has made a multitude of text documents from highly diverse perspectives on almost any topic easily available. Accordingly, the ability to integrate and evaluate information from different sources, known as multiple document comprehension, has become increasingly important. Because multiple document comprehension requires the integration of content and source information across texts, it is assumed to exceed the demands of single text comprehension due to the inclusion of two additional mental representations: the integrated situation model and the intertext model. To date, there is little empirical evidence on commonalities and differences between single text and mult…
Automated electron diffraction tomography – development and applications
2019
Electron diffraction tomography, a potential method for structure analysis of nanocrystals, and, in more detail, the strategies to use automated diffraction tomography (ADT) technique are described. Examples of ADT application are discussed according to the material class.
Bleaching in vital teeth : combined treatment vs in-office treatment
2019
Background The aim of this study was to verify that there will be greater whitening in teeth treated with combined bleaching than in those that have been applied a clinical one and to evaluate the efficiency of the clinical treatment, those cases in which it is not able, or it is not wanted, to carry out the home phase. Material and Methods They were used 66 extracted anterior human teeth, which were divided into two study groups. On the one hand, the clinical group (ClG) consisted of 33 teeth, which were treated with a clinical guideline using 37.5% hydrogen peroxide in a single session of 4 applications of 8 minutes. On the other hand, the combinate group (CoG) consisted of 33 teeth, whic…
DNA cleavage reaction induced by dimeric copper(II) complexes of N-substituted thiazole sulfonamides
2005
A new dinuclear copper(II) complex has been synthesised and structurally characterised: [Cu2(tz-ben)4] (Htz-ben = N-thiazol-2-yl-benzenesulfonamide). Its crystal structure, magnetic properties and electronic paramagnetic resonance (EPR) spectra were studied in detail. In the compound the metal centres are bridged by four non-linear triatomic NCN groups. The coordination geometry of the copper ions in the dinuclear entity is distorted square pyramidal (4+1). Two thiazole N and two sulfonamido N atoms occupy the equatorial positions and one sulfonamido O atom is in the axial position. Magnetic susceptibility data show a strong antiferromagnetic coupling, -2J = 114.1 cm(-1). The EPR spectra of…
Colour tuning by the ring roundabout: [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+ emitters with sulfonyl-substituted cyclometallating ligands
2015
A series of cationic bis-cyclometallated iridium(III) complexes [Ir(C^N)2(N^N)]+ is reported. Cyclometallating C^N ligands are based on 2-phenylpyridine with electron-withdrawing sulfone substituents in the phenyl ring: 2-(4-methylsulfonylphenyl)pyridine (H1) and 2-(3-methylsulfonylphenyl)pyridine (H2). 2-(1H-Pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (pzpy) and 2-(3,5-dimethyl-1H-pyrazol-1-yl)pyridine (dmpzpy) are used as electron-rich ancillary N^N ligands. The complexes have been fully characterized and the single crystal structure of [Ir(2)2(dmpzpy)][PF6]·MeCN has been determined. Depending on the position of the methylsulfonyl group, the complexes are green or blue emitters with vibrationally structured em…
Complex conductivity in high-Tc single crystal superconductors
1994
The electromagnetic surface impedance of single crystal high-T c superconductors has been examined within the framework of the two-fluid model and the hypothesis that the em field modulates the partial concentrations of both normal and condensate fluids. A comparison with experimental data is reported
Suspended single-electron transistors: Fabrication and measurement
2005
We have fabricated aluminum single-electron transistors in which the island is not in contact with the substrate. This new type of device, which can be called suspended single-electron transistor (SUSET), displayed well-defined I-V and dI/dV-V features typical for high-quality standard SET's.
