Wave turbulence in integrable systems: nonlinear propagation of incoherent optical waves in single-mode fibers.

2011

International audience; We study theoretically, numerically and experimentally the nonlinear propagation of partially incoherent optical waves in single mode optical fibers. We revisit the traditional treatment of the wave turbulence theory to provide a statistical kinetic description of the integrable scalar NLS equation. In spite of the formal reversibility and of the integrability of the NLS equation, the weakly nonlinear dynamics reveals the existence of an irreversible evolution toward a statistically stationary state. The evolution of the power spectrum of the field is characterized by the rapid growth of spectral tails that exhibit damped oscillations, until the whole spectrum ultima…

Light-by-light polarization control and stabilization in optical fibers for telecommunication applications

2012

With the advent of future transparent ultra high-bit rate capacity transmission networks, encoding the data would necessary involve all the physical parameters of a light beam, including multi-level in intensity, phase, polarization and even propagation modes. These complex optical fields will then naturally suffer from strong impairments imposed by linear and nonlinear propagation effects. Hence, developing new all-optical tools able to control or regenerate any properties of light has become of a crucial interest. In this work, we experimentally report that it is possible, using a unique segment of optical fiber, to all-optically manipulate and regenerate both the state of polarization (S…

Statistical analysis of pulse propagation driven by polarization-mode dispersion

2002

International audience; The linear propagation of pulses driven by random polarization-mode dispersion is considered. Analytical expressions are derived for the probability-density functions of the pulse width, timing displacement, and degree of polarization. The study is performed in Stokes space, and frequency correlation between modes is shown to play an important role in it.

Alignement moléculaire par impulsions laser ultrabrèves : Mesures & Applications

2009

The interaction of an intense ultrashort laser pulse with a molecular sample leads, after the end of the pulse, to molecular alignment at specific time under field-free conditions. This thesis is dedicated to the measurements and applications of this effect. The degree of alignment is determined through the variation of the refractive index induced by the rearrangement of the molecular dipoles. A two-dimensional technique allowing to measure molecular alignment on a single-shot basis is reported in this document. The alignment is then exploited in order to determine physical quantities which are usually difficult to estimate through others methods. The "cross-defocusing technique" has been …

Observation of light-by-light polarization control and stabilization in optical fibre for telecommunication applications

2010

International audience; In many photonics applications, especially in optical fibre based systems, the state of polarization of light remains so far an elusive uncontrolled variable, which can dramatically affect the performances of that systems and which one would like to control as finely as possible. Here, we experimentally demonstrate light-by-light polarization control via a nonlinear effect occurring in single mode optical fibre. We observe a polarization attraction and stabilization of a 10 Gbit/s optical telecommunication signal around 1550 nm. We also validate the potentiality of the device to annihilate very fast nanosecond polarization bursts. This result confirms yet another fas…

Molecular Engineering To Control the Magnetic Interaction between Single-Chain Magnets Assembled in a Two-Dimensional Network

2012

International audience; Two two-dimensional (2D) systems having the formula [{Fe-III(dmbpy)(CN)(4)}(2)(CoL)-L-II](n) [L = pyetNO (1), tvpNO (2)] and consisting of single-chain magnets connected through organic ligands (L) have been prepared, and their magnetic properties have been investigated. The overall magnetic behavior depends on the capacity of the organic pillars to transmit long-range magnetic interactions. 1 is the first example of a 2D compound exhibiting double relaxation of the magnetization, whereas 2 behaves as a metamagnet.

Symmetry breakings in a metal organic framework with a confined guest

2020

The MOF $[{\text{Fe(tvp)}}_{2}{(\text{NCS})}_{2}]\ifmmode\cdot\else\textperiodcentered\fi{}2\text{BzCHO}$ is demonstrated to undergo a complex sequence of phase transitions and spin-crossover behavior of its constitutive ${\text{Fe}}^{\text{II}}$ ions upon adsorption of benzaldehyde guest molecules. Our study, combining Raman and synchrotron x-ray diffraction measurements on a single crystal, reveals that the conversion from the pure high-spin to the pure low-spin phases implies a rich sequence of intermediate phases, with symmetry breaking forming at least three different space groups. These different symmetries involve spin-state ordering, ligand ordering, and guest ordering, interpreted …

Production of photon states from Λ-atoms in a cavity

2019

We analyse the system of Λ-atoms in a cavity QED of semi-transparent mirror and driven by laser fields. We derive effective models and connect concepts (photonic flux, input-output operators, photonic state) characterizing the propagation of the resulting leaking photons. We propose an atom-cavity non-resonant scheme for single-and 2-photons generation. The pulse shapes of outgoing single photons are tailored using a specifically designed driving field envelope. For the production of 2-photon states, two trapped atoms are used with two driving pulses. Their pulse shapes are characterized and it is shown that the multiphoton outgoing photonic states cannot be Fock states, since the photons a…

Atmospheric radiative effects of an in-situ measured Saharan dust plume and the role of large particles

2007

This work will present aerosol size distributions measured in a Saharan dust plume between 0.9 and 12 km altitude during the ACE-2 campaign 1997. The distributions contain a significant fraction of large particles of diameters from 4 to 30 μm. Radiative transfer calculations have been performed using these data as input. Shortwave, longwave as well as total atmospheric radiative effects (AREs) of the dust plume are investigated over ocean and desert within the scope of sensitivity studies considering varied input parameters like solar zenith angle, scaled total dust optical depth, tropospheric standard aerosol profiles and particle complex refractive index. The results indicate that the lar…

Single-cell RNA sequencing unveils the shared and the distinct cytotoxic hallmarks of human TCRVδ1 and TCRVδ2 γδ T lymphocytes

2019

γδ T lymphocytes represent ∼1% of human peripheral blood mononuclear cells and even more cells in most tissues of vertebrates. Although they have important anticancer functions, most current single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) studies do not identify γδ T lymphocytes because their transcriptomes at the single-cell level are unknown. Here we show that high-resolution clustering of large scRNA-seq datasets and a combination of gene signatures allow the specific detection of human γδ T lymphocytes and identification of their T cell receptor (TCR)Vδ1 and TCRVδ2 subsets in large datasets from complex cell mixtures. In t -distributed stochastic neighbor embedding plots from blood and tumor sa…
