An architecture for observational learning and decision making based on internal models

We present a cognitive architecture whose main constituents are allowed to grow through a situated experience in the world. Such an architectural growth is bootstrapped from a minimal initial knowledge and the architecture itself is built around the biologically-inspired notion of internal models. The key idea, supported by findings in cognitive neuroscience, is that the same internal models used in overt goal-directed action execution can be covertly re-enacted in simulation to provide a unifying explanation to a number of apparently unrelated individual and social phenomena, such as state estimation, action and intention understanding, imitation learning and mindreading. The link between tasks presented in games and tasks used in higher education might have more in common than we think. Analysing how tasks work in games and applying those structures to higher education teaching can enable teachers to develop more creative, situated and exciting tasks for their students. The aim of this chapter is to underscore a series of significant philosophical flaws encountered in current research devoted to neuroscience and neuroethics, and furthermore to challenge the neuroessentialist paradigm that locates subjectivity within the confines of the brain. This article describes the political practices of a part of the Italian women’s movement that, as of the 1980s, gave way to the sexual difference thought. Through a political analysis of their own experience, which removed any humanist identity assumptions, the women’s movement generated new practices and discourses. With these, women were able to exert self-criticism, and simultaneously to produce new subjectivities articulated around the sexual difference concept. The Union of Comoros comprises three of the four islands of the Comorian archipelago, which is situated halfway between the East African coast and the northern tip of Madagascar. Official languages are French, Arabic, and Comorian, the latter of which is the everyday language of the people. Comorian is a Bantu language closely related to Swahili that can be subdivided into different dialects: Ngazija/Shingazija on Grande Comore, Ndzwani/Shindzwani on Anjouan, and Shimwali on Moheli.

In the final chapter, the contemporary situation of parliamentary politics is discussed. The chances and limits of the parliamentary ideal type are situated to the current horizons of Western European politics. The main point is to emphasise the priority of dissensus and debate over outcomes as the main advantage of parliamentary-style politics over the narrowly teleological forms of human activities.
