Ligneous Cervicitis in a Woman With Plasminogen Deficiency Associated With an Atypical Form of Microglandular Hyperplasia

A 19-yr-old woman with previously diagnosed clear cell adenocarcinoma was referred to the Charité for further treatment. Biopsies were taken from the cervix, the endometrium, pseudomembranes in the peritoneum, and sentinel lymph nodes. The morphologic picture of pseudomembranes and inflammation together with the provided information about plasminogen deficiency of the patients led to the hypothesis of ligneous cervicitis. The previously taken biopsies of the adenocarcinoma were reevaluated and showed a clear cell lesion. Common birthmarks can be an indicator of underlying genetic disease but are often overlooked. Mongolian blue spots (dermal melanocytosis) are usually localized and transient, but they can be extensive, permanent, and associated with extracutaneous abnormalities. Co-occurrence with vascular birthmarks defines a subtype of phakomatosis pigmentovascularis, a group of syndromes associated with neurovascular, ophthalmological, overgrowth, and malignant complications. The MSI system is based on a CCD camera, a rotating wheel bearing a set of seven interference filters, a light source and a computer. Bascule syndrome is a recently described benign vasomotor dermatosis characterized by Bier anemic spots, cyanosis, and urticaria-like eruption. We report a case of a 13-year-old girl with cutaneous lesions consistent with Bascule syndrome who had had three exercise-related syncopal episodes. It would be recommended to exclude orthostatic intolerance or postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome when evaluating patients with Bascule syndrome.
