Adfam Smith’s thought reached every corner of the world in a short lapse of time but made its entrance through institutional, cultural, linguistic, religious and political filters. These filters are not neutral and affected the reading, understanding and use of Smithian ideas. I chose the keyword ‘intellectual filters’ to denote all of the contextual elements whose influence determines whether and how a foreign paradigm penetrates a country and creates its effects.

Background The 17q21.31 deletion syndrome phenotype can be caused by either chromosome deletions or point mutations in the KANSL1 gene. To date, about 60 subjects with chromosome deletion and 4 subjects with point mutation in KANSL1 have been reported. Prevalence of chromosome deletions compared with point mutations, genotype–phenotype correlations and phenotypic variability have yet to be fully clarified. Methods: The data were from 13,626 adults (≥20 years) participating in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey between 2007–08 and 2013–14. Daily chocolate consumption was derived from two 24-hr dietary recalls. Depressive symptoms were assessed using the Patient Health Questionnaire (PHQ-9), with scores ≥10 indicating the presence of clinically relevant symptoms.
