Zur Wirkung von Oxytocin auf einen autorhythmischen glatten Gefässmuskel

1972

The influence of oxytocine on the spontaneously contractile portal vein of the rat has been investigated. This octapeptide decreases the active tension and abolished it completely at a concentration of 5×10−7g/ml. The effect is not caused by an adrenergic mechanism but by a direct action on the smooth muscle cell.

Effects ofThymus species extracts on rat duodenum isolated smooth muscle contraction

1989

The diethylether, ethylacetate and butanolic extracts from Thymus webbianus and Thymus leptophyllus were tested for spasmolytic activity. Pre-incubation of the isolated rat duodenum with these extracts for 10 min produced a concentration-dependent inhibition of acetylcholine-induced contractions. This effect was at least ten times greater with the apolar extracts than with the polar extracts.

Functional consequences of prejunctional receptor activation or blockade in the iris.

1994

The iris is innervated by nerves of the sympathetic, parasympathetic, and sensory nervous systems. The terminal nerve fibres are endowed with prejunctional receptors which modulate neurotransmitter release. Activation or blockade of prejunctional receptors by drugs may have an influence on iris smooth muscle tone. Several findings are in favour of the hypothesis that prejunctional receptors may be involved in regulation of iris smooth muscle tone and/or pathophysiological events. (i). Release of acetylcholine from parasympathetic nerves of guinea-pig iris sphincter evoked by electrical stimulation is subject to autoinhibition via prejunctional M2 muscarinic receptors, and the release can be…

Relaxant effects of antidepressants on human isolated mesenteric arteries

1999

Aims The therapeutic action of tricyclic agents may be accompanied by unwanted effects on the cardiovascular system. The evidence for the effects on vascular and nonvascular smooth muscle comes from animal studies. Whether these studies can be extrapolated to human vessels remains to be determined. Therefore, the present study was designed to investigate the influence of amitriptyline, nortriptyline and sertraline on the contractile responses of human isolated mesenteric arteries to electrical field stimulation, noradrenaline and potassium chloride. Methods Arterial segments (lumen diameter 0.8–1.2 mm) were obtained from portions of the human omentum during the course of 41 abdominal operat…

Lacunar fractal photon sieves

2007

We present a new family of diffractive lenses whose structure is based on the combination of two concepts: photon sieve and fractal zone plates with variable lacunarity. The focusing properties of different members of this family are examined. It is shown that the sieves provide a smoothing effect on the higher order foci of a conventional lacunar fractal zone plate. However, the characteristic self-similar axial response of the fractal zone plates is always preserved.

Three-dimensional simulation of polytropic accretion discs

1991

Three-dimensional simulations of the formation and evolution of accretion discs in close binary systems, realised with the Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics method to solve the fluid dynamic equations, are presented. Although the runs presented here refer to an ideal gas with different polytropic indexes, and constitute the first stage of more physically complex forthcoming simulations, they nervertheless give some interesting results: the disc structure and dynamics are in agreement with standard models only for small γ-values; as a consequence of the z-resolution it is found that disc formation is inhibited for γ ≥ 1.2, which means that some 2 D simulations of polytropic discs are meaningles…

Implications of the Semigeostrophic Nature of Rossby Waves for Rossby Wave Packet Detection

2015

Abstract Upper-tropospheric Rossby wave packets have received increased attention recently. In most previous studies wave packets have been detected by computing the envelope of the meridional wind field using either complex demodulation or a Hilbert transform. The latter requires fewer choices to be made and appears, therefore, preferable. However, the Hilbert transform is fraught with a significant problem, namely, a tendency that fragments a single wave packet into several parts. The problem arises because Rossby wave packets show substantial deviations from the almost-plane wave paradigm, a feature that is well represented by semigeostrophic dynamics. As a consequence, higher harmonics …

Low compressibility accretion disc formation in close binaries: the role of physical viscosity

2006

Aims. Physical viscosity naturally hampers gas dynamics (rarefaction or compression). Such a role should support accretion disc development inside the primary gravitation potential well in a close binary system, even for low compressibility modelling. Therefore, from the astrophysical point of view, highly viscous accretion discs could exist even in the low compressibility regime showing strong thermal differences to high compressibility ones Methods. We performed simulations of stationary Smooth Particle Hydrodynamics (SPH) low compressibility accretion disc models for the same close binary system. Artificial viscosity operates in all models. The absence of physical viscosity and a superso…

A three-dimensional smoothed particle hydrodynamics simulation of the active phase of SS Cyg-type discs and its implications for the mass transfer bu…

1993

We perform a smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) three-dimensional simulation of the outburst phase of the accretion disc of a typical SS Cyg-like dwarf nova in the framework of the mass transfer burst model (MTBM), where we assume that the active phase is triggered by a sudden increase in the accretion rate due to some instability in the secondary's atmosphere. The evolution of the accretion disc is followed for a single orbital period, starting from the initial quiescent disc configuration obtained by us in a previous paper. This is a suitable integration time for determining the geometrical and physical properties of the disc in the impulsive phase and is comparable with observed outbu…

Simple absorbing layer conditions for shallow wave simulations with Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics

2013

Abstract We study and implement a simple method, based on the Perfectly Matched Layer approach, to treat non reflecting boundary conditions with the Smoothed Particles Hydrodynamics numerical algorithm. The method is based on the concept of physical damping operating on a fictitious layer added to the computational domain. The method works for both 1D and 2D cases, but here we illustrate it in the case of 1D and 2D time dependent shallow waves propagating in a finite domain.
