Total decay and transition rates from LQCD

2018

We present a new technique for extracting total transition rates into final states with any number of hadrons from lattice QCD. The method involves constructing a finite-volume Euclidean four-point function whose corresponding infinite-volume spectral function gives access to the decay and transition rates into all allowed final states. The inverse problem of calculating the spectral function is solved via the Backus-Gilbert method, which automatically includes a smoothing procedure. This smoothing is in fact required so that an infinite-volume limit of the spectral function exists. Using a numerical toy example we find that reasonable precision can be achieved with realistic lattice data. …

On a Theorem of Greuel and Steenbrink

2017

A famous theorem of Greuel and Steenbrink states that the first Betti number of the Milnor fibre of a smoothing of a normal surface singularity vanishes. In this paper we prove a general theorem on the first Betti number of a smoothing that implies an analogous result for weakly normal singularities.

Flow analysis with 3-dim ultra-relativistic hydro

2009

We review how flow observables of ultra-relativistic heavy-ion collisions are influenced by the initial condition, the description of the fluid dynamical (FD) stage and freeze-out (FO). We discuss the effects of the resolution of the FD treatment, the arising smoothing and numerical viscosity, as well as the consequences of final FO. This final FO stage includes confinement and simultaneous formation of constituent quarks. From the energy and momentum conservation at the FO stage pressure change and flow velocity may occur, which further modifies the observables.

A Forecasting Support System Based on Exponential Smoothing

2010

This chapter presents a forecasting support system based on the exponential smoothing scheme to forecast time-series data. Exponential smoothing methods are simple to apply, which facilitates computation and considerably reduces data storage requirements. Consequently, they are widely used as forecasting techniques in inventory systems and business planning. After selecting the most adequate model to replicate patterns of the time series under study, the system provides accurate forecasts which can play decisive roles in organizational planning, budgeting and performance monitoring.

Exploiting Numerical Behaviors in SPH.

2010

Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics is a meshless particle method able to evaluate unknown field functions and relative differential operators. This evaluation is done by performing an integral representation based on a suitable smoothing kernel function which, in the discrete formulation, involves a set of particles scattered in the problem domain. Two fundamental aspects strongly characterizing the development of the method are the smoothing kernel function and the particle distribution. Their choice could lead to the so-called particle inconsistency problem causing a loose of accuracy in the approximation; several corrective strategies can be adopted to overcome this problem. This paper focu…

The appraisal smoothing in the real estate indeces

2013

The appraisal smoothing is the phenomenon in which the valuation of a property, based on the judgments of appraisers (expertise) rather than on the collection of market data, is influenced by previous valuations performed by the same expert. The most obvious consequence of the exercise of expertise is the tendency to generate in the time a smoothing in the estimated value. This is the first experimental application of the appraisal smoothing theory in Italy. The general spread of real estate valuations, based on prices and average prices refer to a single commercial parameter (usually the surface), generates the natural suspicion that the smoothing effect could be widely disseminated and th…

Color Correction for Image Stitching by Monotone Cubic Spline Interpolation

2015

This paper proposes a novel color correction scheme for image stitching where the color map transfer is modelled by a monotone Hermite cubic spline and smoothly propagated into the target image. A three-segments monotone cubic spline minimizing color distribution statistics and gradient differences with respect to both the source and target images is used. While the spline model can handle non-linear color maps, the minimization over the gradient differences limits strong alterations on the image structure. Adaptive heuristics are introduced to reduce the minimization search space and thus computational time. Experimental comparisons with respect to the state-of-the-art linear mapping model…

Noise Filtering Using Edge-Driven Adaptive Anisotropic Diffusion

2008

This paper presents a method aimed to noise removal in MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging). We propose an improvement of Perona and Malik's anisotropic diffusion filter. In our schema, the diffusion equation of the filter has been modified to take into account the edges direction, This allows the filter to blur uniform areas, while it better preserves the edges. Both quantitative and qualitative evaluation is presented and the results are compared with other methods.

Algorithm To Calculate Heart Rate By Removing Touch Errors And Algorithm Analysis

2018

Heart rate is one of the important physiological parameter to measure the stability of the health. This study shows analysis of a proposed algorithm to calculate heart rate with miss touch errors to make it more efficient. Android Smart phone with good quality camera has come to reach of common people and has become one of the most necessary and powerful device for today and of course, for future generation. We can use its powerful features to solve or assess heart state monitoring through capturing necessary data in the form of image. Mobile camera has a photo emitting diode and a photo detector. Light source illuminates the tissue and photo-detector calculates the small intensity variatio…

Transputer-based parallel system for acquisition and on-line analysis of single-fiber electromyographic signals.

1992

Abstract We describe a transputer-based system suitable for accurate measurements of single-fiber electromyographic jitter. It consists of a conventional electromyograph, a home-made interface and a commercially available transputer-based board installed within a PC/AT compatible. Taking advantage of the concurrent operation of two transputer modules, the system features simultaneous data acquisition and statistical signal processing: while data are acquired and analyzed, a real-time visualization of the signal latency and its variability is provided. In the present configuration, the system can acquire and analyze up to 40,000 consecutive action potentials, which can be grouped into up to …
