Superoxide radicals are associated with the development of many severe diseases, such as cancer. Under nonpathogenic conditions, the natural enzyme superoxide dismutase (SOD) regulates the intracellular superoxide concentrations, but nearly all tumor tissues show reduced SOD levels. Selective imaging in early progression stages remains a key requirement for efficient cancer diagnosis and treatment. Manganese(II) complexes of scorpiand-like azamacrocycles as MnSOD mimics.

Mn(II) complexes of scorpiand-type azamacrocycles constituted by a tretrazapyridinophane core appended with an ethylamino tail including 2- or 4-quinoline functionalities show very appealing in vitro SOD activity. The observed behaviour is related to structural and electrochemical parameters.

Bismuta selenīda plāno kārtiņu elektroķīmisko īpašību raksturošana nātrija nitrāta ūdens elektrolītā

Bakalaura darba ietvaros tika veikti elektroķīmiskie mērījumi bismuta slelenīda plānajām kārtiņām, izmantojot ciklisko voltamperometriju (CV) un elektroķīmisko impedances spektroskopiju (EIS), kā arī plāno kārtiņu raksturojums, izmantojot skenējošo elektronu mikroskopiju (SEM) un enerģijas dispersīvo rentgenstaru spektroskopiju (EDX). Iegūtie rezultāti statistiski apstrādāti, salīdzināti ar literatūru un izdarīti secinājumi par bismuta selenīdu veikstpēju nātrija nitrāta ūdens elektrolītā. Pētījuma rezultāti norāda uz Bi2Se3 plāno kārtiņu perspektīvu pielietojumu kā anoda elektrodu nātrija jonu baterijās ar ūdens elektrolītu (ASIB).

Postnatal overfeeding in rats leads to moderate overweight and to cardiometabolic and oxidative alterations in adulthood.

In contrast to the masses of data on obesity, few data are available concerning the cardiometabolic and oxidative consequences of moderate overweight. The model of postnatal overfeeding (OF) induces an increase in body weight at weaning that remains during adult life. Litters of Wistar rats were either maintained at 12 pups (normal-fed group, NF), or reduced to 3 pups at birth in order to induce OF. At 6 months of age, metabolic parameters, circulating oxidative stress and aortic and coronary vasoreactivity were assessed. Inflammation, tissue hypoxia, and impaired hypoxic ventilatory response (HVR) are the intricately entwined features of diabetes which perpetuate the disease and its sequelae. Hyperglycemia, notably, is an oxygen consuming process due to enhanced cellular metabolism. Oxidative stress underlies diabetic pathogenesis and also is a crucial modulator of the hypoxic chemoreflex. Timing of Exercise Affects Glycemic Control in Type 2 Diabetes Patients Treated with Metformin

Objective. The purpose of the study was to examine the acute effects of the timing of exercise on the glycemic control during and after exercise in T2D. Methods. This study included 26 T2D patients (14 women and 12 men) who were treated with metformin. All patients were tested on four occasions: metformin administration alone (Metf), high-intensity interval training (HIIT) performed at 30 minutes (EX30), 60 minutes (EX60), and 90 minutes (EX90) postbreakfast, respectively. Changes in antioxidant defense are unknown in hypertension associated with metabolic disorders induced by high-fructose feeding. It has also been shown to have therapeutic benefits on the central nervous system and an anti-diabetic effect by lowering blood glucose levels and however, no effects of Rn on cellular sensitivity to insulin (Ins) have been demonstrated yet.
