Interpersonal Distance in the SARS-CoV-2 Crisis
2020
Background Mandatory rules for social distancing to curb the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic require individuals to maintain a critical interpersonal distance above 1.5 m. However, this contradicts our natural preference, which is closer to 1 m for non-intimate encounters, for example, when asking a stranger for directions. Objective This review addresses how humans typically regulate interpersonal distances, in order to highlight the challenges of enforcing atypically large interpersonal distances. Method To understand the challenges posed by social distancing requirements, we integrate relevant contributions from visual perception, social perception, and human factors. Results To date, research on pr…
Typical and Individual Doctoral Processes and Lifecourses: The Types of Narratives of the Project Manager, the Survivor and the Seeker
2015
One task of the doctoral education is, globally as well as nationally, to produce and renew the highest expertise and knowledge in a high quality and efficient way. Even though in this global time the high-quality knowledge and skills are a competition factor which the success of the societies is expected to be able to lean on, also the doctoral students and their individual factors are significant. The accelerating global change is strongly reflected at the individual level: an attempt is made to respond to the changing expectations and to prepare individually and diversely. The individual doctoral students and the graduating doctors come from different everyday lives and contexts. The gra…
The ecosocial approach in social work as a framework for structural social work
2016
The article aims to deepen the understanding of structural social work from the point of view of the ecosocial framework. It analyses selected current international literature from the debate on the new wave of various interpretations of ecological social work. The debate shares four main themes: (a) a global perspective, (b) a critical view of professional social work, (c) a holistic ecosocial transition of society and (d) environmental and ecological justice. The ecosocial framework challenges structural social work to follow the principles of sustainable development and considers environmental issues as a crucial part of the goals and practical activities of structural social work.
Koncepcje uznania w perspektywie pedagogiki ogólnej jako alternatywa wobec neoliberalnej wizji współczesnego świata
2018
Mamy więc trzy obszary, w których w relacji z innymi budujemy swoją tożsamość: rodzinę, prawo i gospodarkę wraz z rynkiem pracy. Społeczne relacje uznania…
Genetic and environmental sources of continuity and change in teacher-rated aggression during early adolescence
2006
Genetic and environmental sources of continuity and change in aggression were studied in a sample of 1,041 twin pairs (364 monozygotic; 348 same-sex dizygotic; and 329 opposite-sex dizygotic) as part of an ongoing, population-based Finnish twin-family study. At ages 12 and 14, the twins' aggression was assessed by their classroom teachers, using a rating form of the Multidimensional Peer Nomination Inventory. Genetic and environmental sources of continuity and change were studied by fitting a longitudinal bivariate Cholesky decomposition model. Longitudinal model-fitting results indicated that both genetic and environmental factors influenced continuity in aggression during this 2-year peri…
Editorial on the special issue “Private Life Choices, Employment and Health”
2013
The health conditions of the German population have been subject to signifi cant changes in the past. Within the last forty years, for example, the life expectancy at birth of both men and women reported by the German Federal Statistical Offi ce rose by more than eight years. In recent years, chances of survival in the middle and old ages were responsible for the increase in life expectancy. In this respect – and to an extent never seen before – it is nowadays possible to spend one’s lifetime actively within the family and productively on the labour market. However, in times of a shrinking population, changes of the conditions on the labour market and new arrangements of private life choice…
Educación XX1 : revista de la Facultad de Educación
2019
