07. Social freedom in contemporary capitalism: A reconstruction of Axel Honneth’s normative approach to the economy
2015
This paper discusses two related issues, namely how to adequately describe the economy within the framework of a critical social theory, and how to understand the interrelation between the socio-economic and political dimensions of democracy. Concerning the first issue Honneth stresses the moral quality of social integration, and concerning the second issue he develops a conception of ‘democratic Sittlichkeit.’ In reconstructing these issues, both the promises and problems of Honneth’s work for analyzing and criticizing contemporary developments in the economy are explored. The paper concludes that the unresolved challenge for Honneth is not to succumb to a nostalgic return to 19th century …
From refugee integration to the theory of change for integration. The evolution of the approach to social integration in the UK at the beginning of t…
2020
The need and willingness to change motivates decision-makers and practitioners in the UK to take decisive integrationoriented measures. The country has never succeeded in developing its own original policy in this area. The first steps were taken in 2004 with the publication of the Indicators of Integration, but it was onlyin recent years that work on integration management has been intensified. There is a clear departure from focusing on individual aspects of integration and implementing a problem management system in a broader context. This is reflected in the publication of the Home Office Indicators for Integration framework (2019). The document is based on the 2004 version, but present…

Psychometric analysis of the Scale of Teacher's Perception of School Adjustment (PROF-A)
2015

STRANIERI, MERIDIONALI O PROVINCIALI? I CONSUMI NEL TEMPO LIBERO DELLE SECONDE GENERAZIONI
2022
In this paper, we analyze consumption patterns of leisure time among young people belonging to the so-called “second generation” of immigrants in Italy. Leisure time consumption describes how young immigrants use cultural products and services. We analyze data collected by the ISTAT through the survey on the “second generations” (2015). A comparison of leisure consumption patterns between second-generation immigrants and their Italian peers does not show significant differences. Rather, differences in consumption styles are associated to gender (male/female), geographic area of residence (North/South), and size of the municipality (large municipality/small municipality) of residence.
Learning and teaching: two processes to bear in mind when rethinking physical medicine and rehabilitation
2010
Rehabilitation has been defined by the WHO as a process aimed at enabling people with disabilities to reach and maintain their optimal physical, sensory, intellectual, psychiatric and/or social functional levels, providing them with the tools to change their lives towards a higher level of independence (13). Rehabilitation includes all measures aimed at reducing the impact of disabling and handicapping conditions and enabling the disabled and handicapped to achieve social integration (14).
Predicting social integration in the community among college students
2004
This article aims to examine determinants of social integration in the community among college students. Two-wave panel data from an undergraduate student sample (N 310) was used to explore the effects of multiple sets of variables (personal, interpersonal, and situational) on social integration in the community. Structural equation analysis showed that personal (self-esteem and perceived stress) and situational (undesirable life events) variables made significant contributions to changes to social integration in the community. Implications of these and other findings are discussed. © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The expansion of social networks beyond relationships with family and peers is…
Covariates of Subjective well-being among Latin American immigrants in Spain: the role of social integration in the community
2011
The aim of this study is to test the influence that social integration in the community might have on subjective well-being (SWB) beyond the influence of sociodemographic characteristics, self-esteem, stressful life events, and social support from intimate and confidant relationships. We explore this set of relationships among Latin American immigrants in Spain, a group at risk of social exclusion. Results show a positive and statistically significant relationship between social integration and SWB, after controlling for the statistical effects of the other variables. Promoting social integration in the community among immigrant population might grant them access to wider community resource…
