Partial melting of metagreywacke: a calculated mineral equilibria study
2008
Greywacke occurs in most regionally metamorphosed orogenic terranes, with depositional ages from Archean to recent. It is commonly the dominant siliciclastic rock type, many times more abundant than pelite. Using calculated pseudosections in the Na2O–CaO–K2O–FeO–MgO–Al2O3–SiO2–H2O–TiO2–O system, the partial melting of metagreywacke is investigated using several natural protolith compositions that reflect the main observed compositional variations. At conditions appropriate for regional metamorphism at mid-crustal depths (6–8 kbar), high-T subsolidus assemblages are dominated by quartz, plagioclase and biotite with minor garnet, orthoamphibole, sillimanite, muscovite and/or K-feldspar (±Fe–T…
Migmatites in the Ivrea Zone (NW Italy): Constraints on partial melting and melt loss in metasedimentary rocks from Val Strona di Omegna
2013
Abstract The mid to lower crustal metamorphic field gradient through amphibolite and granulite facies rocks in the Ivrea Zone offers the potential to study partial melting and melt loss in the crust. Metapelitic rocks in Val Strona di Omegna show a progressive evolution in migmatite structures from metatexites with rare isolated leucosome veins in the amphibolite facies rocks to stromatic migmatites and diatexites in granulite facies rocks. Little field or petrographic evidence for melting can be seen on crossing the position of the modelled wet solidus, consistent with the small amounts of melt predicted to occur by H2O-saturated melting. The first field evidence for partial melting, in th…

A mathematical approach to predict the solids concentration in anaerobic membrane bioreactos (AnMBR): Evaluation of the volatile solids solubilization
2020
[EN] Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactors (AnMBR) are gaining attention as a suitable approach for sustainable low-strength wastewater treatment, as they bring together the advantages of both anaerobic treatments and membrane bioreactors. However, increasing the sludge retention time (SRT) necessary to favor hydrolysis increases the suspended solids concentration potentially leading to decreased permeate flux. Therefore, the availability of a mathematical approach to predict the solids concentration within an AnMBR can be very useful. In this work, a mathematical model describing the volatile solids concentration within the reactor as a function of the operating parameters and the influent charac…
SPME of 52 pesticides and polychlorinated biphenyls: Extraction efficiencies of the SPME coatings poly(dimethylsiloxane), polyacrylate, poly(dimethyl…
2001
Fiber/water partition coefficients (Kfw) of 52 pesticides, including triazines, organophosphorus pesticides, organochlorine pesticides, and polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) were experimentally calculated for the five polymeric coatings poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), polyacrylate (PA), poly(dimethylsiloxane)-Divinylbenzene (PDMS-DVB), Carboxen-poly(dimethylsiloxane) (CAR-PDMS), and Carbowax-divinylbenzene (CW-DVB) commercially available for solid-phase microextraction coupled to gas chromatography. The equilibrium-time profiles for the five coatings were previously studied in order to establish the time needed for equilibrium. To calculate Kfw the amount of analyte extracted at equilibrium w…
Extramammary Paget Disease of the Axilla Associated With Comedo-like Apocrine Carcinoma In Situ.
2002
Extramammary Paget disease of the axilla with underlying apocrine carcinoma has been reported only in six cases until now. This report deals with a seventh case characterized by the unique finding of comedo-like features evocative of large cell ductal breast carcinoma within an otherwise typical in situ apocrine carcinoma. This is characterized by spiral-shaped foci of epithelial proliferation with decapitation secretion and central masses of necrotic debris. A possible connection between the solid neoplasm and the overlying Paget disease is illustrated by a few apocrine-follicular units colonized by both the Paget cells and the structured adenocarcinoma. Here, although they display the sam…
Interrelationship between mean arterial blood pressure, blood flow, and vascular resistance in solid tumor tissue of DS-carcinosarcoma
1975
Domain structure of epitaxial SrRuO3 thin films
2005
Growth of multidomains in epitaxial thin-film oxides is known to have a detrimental effect on some functional properties, and, thus, efforts are done to suppress them. It is commonly accepted that optimal properties of the metallic and ferromagnetic $\mathrm{SrRu}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ (SRO) epitaxies can only be obtained if vicinal $\mathrm{SrTi}{\mathrm{O}}_{3}$ (001) (STO) substrates are used. It is believed that this results from the suppression of multidomain structure in the SRO film. Here we revise this important issue. Nanometric films of SRO have been grown on STO(001) vicinal substrates with miscut $({\ensuremath{\theta}}_{V})$ angles in the $\ensuremath{\sim}0.04\ifmmode^\circ\else\te…
