Influence of crustal thickening on arc magmatism:, Nevados de Payachata volcanic region, northern Chile
1993
Neogene through Pleistocene lava flows of the Nevados de Payachata region (lat 18°S) on the Altiplano of northern Chile fall into two discrete chemical groups defined by age and incompatible element concentrations. The Neogene suite (10.5-6.6 Ma) has trace element concentrations comparable to arc magmas erupted on thin crust in central Chile. Pleistocene lava flows (0.29-0 Ma) are enriched in incompatible elements relative to Neogene samples but have similar Sr, Nd, and Pb isotopic ratios. Incompatible element enrichment in mafic rocks reflects deep-crustal or subcrustal processes. Neogene volcanism in northern Chile immediately followed a period of intense crustal thickening. Uplift rates …
<title>Performance problems of electrochromic coatings</title>
2003
The performance is actual problem of electrochromic coatings. The service and shelf life and cycling capacity are main performance characteristics. By solid-state ionics point of view any electrochromic cell based on phenomena with ion insertion - extraction processes is functioning as solid-state rechargeable battery. The main performance characteristics of electrochromic cells are similar. Performance of electrochromic coatings based on amorphous WO3 films and protons conducting electrolytes is limited by reversibility of ion insertion-extraction reactions, which causes degradation of cell components. The migration of water in the cell and hydration together with ion insertion-extraction …

Application of the 3-D boundary element method to delaminated composite structures
2013
A three-dimensional boundary element model for anisotropic solids is presented to study the fracture mechanics behavior of delaminated composite structures. The multi-domain technique is implemented to model the layered configurations and the cracks occurring at bi-material interface. The Modified Crack Closure Integral technique is implemented to characterize the fracture mechanics behavior of delaminations in terms of the total energy release rate and mode mix phase angles. Validating analyses, performed on different delaminated configurations, have shown the effectiveness of the proposed approach. Moreover, some original results are presented to investigate the effects of the stacking se…
Fiscal Adjustment and Business Cycle Synchronization
2013
Using a panel of annual data for 20 countries we show that synchronized fiscal consolidation (stimulus) programmes in different countries make their business cycles more closely linked, especially in the case of fiscal adjustments lasting 2 or 3 years. We also find: (i) little evidence of decoupling when an inflation targeting regime is unilaterally adopted; (ii) an increase in business cycle synchronization when countries fix their exchange rates and become members of a monetary union; (iii) a positive effect of bilateral trade on the synchronization of business cycles.
Facile synthesis of 5β-cholane-sym-triazine conjugates starting from metformin and bile acid methyl esters: Liquid and solid state NMR characterizati…
2009
Abstract Four bile acid-triazine conjugates: N2′,N2′-dimethyl-6′-(3α-hydroxy-5β-24-norcholyl)-1′,3′,5′-triazine-2′,4′-diamine (lithocholyl triazine, 4a), N2′,N2′-dimethyl-6′-(3α,7α-dihydroxy-5β-24-norcholyl)-1′,3′,5′-triazine-2′,4′-diamine (chenodeoxycholyl triazine, 4b), N2′,N2′-dimethyl-6′6′-(3α,12α-dihydroxy-5β-24-norcholyl)-1′,3′,5′-triazine-2′,4′-diamine (deoxycholyl triazine) (4c), and N2′,N2′-dimethyl-6′-(3α,7α,12α-trihydroxy-5β-24-norcholyl)-1′,3′,5′-triazine-2′,4′-diamine (cholyl triazine) (4d) have been prepared and characterized by liquid and solid state NMR. An improved synthetic method produced better yields and an easier purification procedure for 4d than reported in the liter…
Utilization of water glass as an activator in the manufacturing of cementitious materials from waste by-products
1987
Abstract In the present paper, the possibility of producing new-type cementless building materials is discussed when water glass as an activating agent is used. The experimental data are presented for a set of raw materials which normally do not show any binding ability. However, if they undergo some physico-chemical treatment and water glass is used, a solid structure of the material is formed. According to the method described here, lots of different mineral waste by-products could be activated, thus gaining binding properties.
Halogen Bonded Analogues of Deep Cavity Cavitands
2014
The first examples of halogen bonded analogues of deep cavity cavitands with guest binding properties, formed between N-alkyl ammonium resorcinarene halides as acceptors and bromotrichloromethane as the donor, are reported in the solid state and in solution.
Recent advances in smart biotechnology: Hydrogels and nanocarriers for tailored bioactive molecules depot
2017
Over the past ten years, the global biopharmaceutical market has remarkably grown, with ten over the top twenty worldwide high performance medical treatment sales being biologics. Thus, biotech R&D (research and development) sector is becoming a key leading branch, with expanding revenues. Biotechnology offers considerable advantages compared to traditional therapeutic approaches, such as reducing side effects, specific treatments, higher patient compliance and therefore more effective treatments leading to lower healthcare costs. Within this sector, smart nanotechnology and colloidal self-assembling systems represent pivotal tools able to modulate the delivery of therapeutics. A comprehens…
Determination of phenytoin in plasma by molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction.
2001
Abstract A molecularly imprinted polymer (MIP) using phenytoin as template and methacrylamide as the functional monomer was prepared. The selectivity was measured by comparing capacity factors of phenytoin and other structurally related compounds. The polymer was evaluated as a selective sorbent in molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction (MISPE). Several washing solvents were tested to study their ability to disrupt the non-specific interactions occurring between the sample and the polymer matrix and the role of water in the recognition process was also investigated. It was shown that the key step of successful sample extraction is the right choice of the washing solvent. Plasma sample…
