Pharmacogenomic testing of tuberculosis drug-metabolizing enzyme genes was proposed as a strategy to identify patients at risk for suboptimal responses to medications. However, variations of the genotype frequencies among ethnic groups exist and new alleles are been identified. The aim of this study was to identify polymorphisms of genes encoding metabolic enzymes NAT2 and GSTM1 in tuberculosis patients in Latvia and to estimate the frequency of NAT2 slow acetylator and GSTM1 null genotypes. Abstract Objective To estimate prevalence of Parkinson's disease (PD) and other types of parkinsonism in the Aeolian Archipelago, Sicily. Methods We studied the frequency of PD and other types of parkinsonism in the Aeolian Archipelago (population 13,431). All potential cases were identified from available medical information sources. To ensure the completeness of the case-findings, a screening questionnaire was also mailed to residents aged 40 years and over. Myocardial (123)Metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) enables the assessment of postganglionic sympathetic cardiac innervation. MIBG uptake is decreased in nearly all patients with Parkinson's disease (PD). Our objective was to evaluate MIBG uptake in patients with genetic PD. How many parkinsonian patients are suitable candidates for deep brain stimulation of subthalamic nucleus? Results of a questionnaire.

We used a CAPSIT-based questionnaire to estimate the percentage of parkinsonian patients suitable for subthalamic nucleus (STN) deep brain stimulation (DBS) in a movement disorders clinic. We found that out of 641 consecutive PD patients only 1.6% fulfilled strict STN-DBS criteria. When we applied more flexible criteria, the percentage of eligibility increased to 4.5%. Most patients (60%) were ineligible because they did not satisfy multiple questionnaire items. Items related to disease severity were responsible for the largest number of exclusions. This knowledge will help make decisions on resource allocation in centres wishing to start DBS surgery.

Objectives TO describe the evolution of tuberculosis epidemiology in Area 15 of the Autonomous Community of Valencia. Material and Methods Cases of tuberculosis were identified by active case finding in Area 15 from January 1987 through December 2001. Clinical and epidemiological data were extracted from case records and a patient interview. Results Four hundred seventy-six diagnosed cases of mycobacterial infection were identified (459 tuberculosis, 16 atypical, and 1 mixed); 423 tuberculosis patients were residents of Area 15. In this paper the response in terms of probability density function of nonlinear systems under combined normal and Poisson white noise is considered. The problem is handled via a Path Integral Solution (PIS) that may be considered as a step-by-step solution technique in terms of probability density function. A nonlinear system under normal white noise, Poissonian white noise and under the superposition of normal and Poisson white noise is performed through PIS. Spectrofluorimetric Determination of Iproniazid and Isoniazid in a FIA System Provided with a Solid-Phase Reactor

Abstract A FIA assembly is proposed for the fluorimetric determination of iproniazid and isoniazid. The oxidation of both drugs is carried out by H2O2. The excess of reagent is destroyed and removed from the flow-injection manifold by means of a metallic copper reactor which acts as catalyst in the decomposition of H2O2 and a home made debubbler. The calibration graphs were linear up to 14 μg ml−1 and 10 μg ml−1 (n=6) for iproniazid and isoniazid, respectively, with limits of detection of 0.008 μg ml−1 and 0.005 μg ml−1.
