Adsorption and diffusion of linear and dibranched C6 paraffins in a ZSM-5 zeolite

2002

The adsorption of n-hexane and 2,2-dimethylbutane on a commercial ZSM-5 zeolite is studied under isothermal and isobaric conditions. ZSM-5 exhibits two different behaviours with linear and dibranched alkanes. A substep at 4 molec.uc−1 is observed on the adsorption isotherm of n-hexane at 348 K. A singular adsorption-desorption process is evidenced on the adsorption isobar at 5.5 kPa with 2,2-dimethylbutane at a temperature close to 343 K when the sample is activated at 298 K under vacuum. The diffusivities have been determined by fitting directly the uptake curves with a numerical resolution of second Fick's law based on finite difference method. Microporous diffusion seems to be rate limit…

Isomerization of C5–C7 n-alkanes on unidirectional large pore zeolites: activity, selectivity and adsorption features

2001

Abstract The hydroisomerization–hydrocracking of nC5–nC7 is studied with a 12MR unidirectional zeolite (ITQ-4). Selectivity and kinetic parameters indicate that differences in pore topology are more important than acidity for determining isomerization selectivity. The adsorption of the paraffins is determined by van der Waals interactions.

Catalytic cracking of n-alkane naphtha: The impact of olefin addition and active sites differentiation

2015

An extended dual kinetic model allows to fit the n-heptane cracking results working in a wide range of reaction conditions. The duality of the model is provided by the contribution of monomolecular and bimolecular cracking mechanisms. It takes into account the role played by the olefins formed on the global cracking or added within the feed. Furthermore by means of this model and the kinetic parameters obtained when cracking n-heptane on ZSM-5, it has been observed that, while some characterization techniques show a homogeneous zeolite surface from the point of view of the active sites, rigorous kinetic experiments point to the possibility that the reactant sees a heterogeneous surface with…

Anaphylaktischer Schock nach Lipid-Austauschchromatographie bei einer Patientin mit angeborenem IgA-Mangel

1995

We report on a 59-year-old woman patient with selective IgA deficiency and familial hypercholesterinaemia. To lower elevated LDL levels in the patient's blood, immunoadsorption therapy with sheep-anti-human polyclonal antibodies coupled to sepharose columns was administered. During the procedure, the patient developed an anaphylactic shock requiring intensive care treatment. The patient's history revealed a fresh cell therapy with fetal sheep cells 10 years previously. Intracutaneous testing confirmed sensitization to sheep immunoglobulin, which was the most likely reason for the anaphylactic shock.

Measurement and correction of atmospheric effects in O<inf>2</inf>-B and O<inf>2</inf>-A absorption bands in the context of s…

2014

Under sun-light illumination, the shape of the atmospheric oxygen bands (O 2 -B, 687 nm and O 2 -A, 760 nm) of the vegetation radiance is modified by chlorophyll fluorescence. However for far-range measurements, atmospheric effects also modify this shape. In this study, measurements in O 2 -A and O 2 -B absorption bands have been performed at different altitudes up to 3123 m over bare soil and wheat fields. It is observed that bands depth increase significantly with altitude. In O 2 -B band, the total magnitude of variation is of the same order of magnitude as the change induced by vegetation fluorescence, while it is much greater in O 2 -A band. We used MODTRAN 4 to correct measurements fr…

On the mechanism of the interaction between oxygen and close-packed single-crystal aluminum surfaces

2003

Abstract Using periodic first principles simulations we investigate the interaction of oxygen molecules with both regular Al(111) and Al(001) surfaces as well as a stepped Al(111) substrate. The limitation of this approach is the use of thin metallic slabs with a limited range for their coverage by adsorbed oxygen. The advantage is the detailed modeling that is possible at an atomic level. On the regular Al(111) surface, we have been able to follow the oxidation process from the approach of O 2 molecules to the surface, through the chemisorption and absorption of O atoms, up to the formation of first Al 2 O 3 formula units. An energetically feasible mechanism for the formation of these Al 2…

Defects in yttrium aluminium perovskite and garnet crystals: atomistic study

2000

Native and impurity point defects in both yttrium aluminium perovskite (YAP) and garnet (YAG) crystals are studied in the framework of the pair-potential approximation coupled with the shell model description of the lattice ions. The calculated formation energies for native defects suggest that the antisite disorder is preferred over the Frenkel and Schottky-like disorder in both YAP and YAG. The calculated values of the distortion caused by the antisite YAl x in the lattice turn out to be in an excellent agreement with the EXAFS measurements. In non-stoichiometric compounds, the calculated reaction energies indicate that excess Y2 O3 or Al2 O3 is most likely to be accommodated by the forma…

Selective adsorption of oppositely charged PNIPAAM on halloysite surfaces: a route to thermo-responsive nanocarriers.

2018

Halloysite nanotubes were functionalized with stimuli-responsive macromolecules to generate smart nanohybrids. Poly(N-isopropylacrylamide)-co-methacrylic acid (PNIPAAM-co-MA) was selectively adsorbed into halloysite lumen by exploiting electrostatic interactions. Amine-terminated PNIPAAM polymer was also investigated that selectively interacts with the outer surface of the nanotubes. The adsorption site has a profound effect on the thermodynamic behavior and therefore temperature responsive features of the hybrid material. The drug release kinetics was investigated by using diclofenac as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug model. The release kinetics depends on the nanoarchitecture of th…

On the formation of inclusion complexes at the solid/liquid interface of anchored temperature-responsive PNIPAAM diblock copolymers with γ-cyclodextr…

2017

The thermal responsive behavior of adsorbed layers of diblock copolymers of poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAAM) and poly((3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride) (PAMPTMA(+)) with γ-cyclodextrin (γ-CD) at the solid/liquid interface has been investigated using three in situ techniques: null ellipsometry, quartz–crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring, and neutron reflectometry. The measurements provided information about the adsorbed amounts, the layer thickness, hydration and viscoelastic properties, and the interfacial structure and composition. The copolymers adsorb to silica with the cationic PAMPTMA(+) blocks sitting as anchors in a flat conformation and the PNIPAAM ch…
