Análisis del proceso de internacionalización de la investigación española en ciencia y tecnología (1980-2007)
2012
The process of scientific internationalization in Spain is based on an analysis of the growth of scientific publications and the evolution of international collaboration in Spanish scientific papers indexed in the Science Citation Index-Expanded database between 1980 and 2007. The article examines science policies in Spain together with the investments in economic and human resources devoted to research, and their effects on the internationalization process. Scholarly research in Spain has become increasingly international over the last three decades. The main features of this process have been a linear growth of productivity in terms of the number of papers published per year; a progressiv…
LOFT - A large observatory for x-ray timing
2010
The high time resolution observations of the X-ray sky hold the key to a number of diagnostics of fundamental physics, some of which are unaccessible to other types of investigations, such as those based on imaging and spectroscopy. Revealing strong gravitational field effects, measuring the mass and spin of black holes and the equation of state of ultradense matter are among the goals of such observations. At present prospects for future, non-focused X-ray timing experiments following the exciting age of RXTE/PCA are uncertain. Technological limitations are unavoidably faced in the conception and development of experiments with effective area of several square meters, as needed in order to…
Validating Test Score Interpretations by Cross-National Comparison
2015
Cross-national assessment of students’ competences in higher education is becoming increasingly important in many disciplines including economics but there are few available instruments that meet psychological standards for assessing students’ economic competence in higher education (HE). One of them is the internationally valid Test of Understanding in College Economics (TUCE), which has been adapted and employed successfully in HE systems in various countries, but the test results have seldom been used for international comparisons of students’ Economic Content Knowledge (ECK). Here, we compare the German and the Japanese test adaptations of the TUCE with reference to the American origin…
2016
The aim of this research paper is to present a new tutoring model for the Final Degree Project (FDP ), related to the university reform process. The experimentation process of this model was carried out in the Degree of Labour Relations and Human Resources at the University of Valencia. The consistency of the supporting process offered by the professor to the student, and the main innovations introduced in higher education by the convergence of "Bologna Process" will be analysed. The two main points of the new educational scenario, that is to say the change in the teacher's role and their relationship with the student are both taken into account in the model design. Furthermore, the pillars o…
Assessing Master Students' Competencies Using Rubrics: Lessons Learned from Future Secondary Education Teachers
2020
The aim of this paper is to provide insights into the appropriateness of teaching-learning and evaluation processes using rubrics, for student self-assessments. We studied students enrolled on the Master&rsquo
Business Ethics as a Sustainability Challenge: Higher Education Implications
2018
Recent financial scandals worldwide have intensified concern for business (and especially accounting) ethics. Hence, under an overall economic and social sustainability approach, it is crucial to improve the effectiveness of business ethics and corporate social responsibility (CSR) education, in terms of its impact on business students&rsquo
Study Crafting and Self-Undermining in Higher Education Students: A Weekly Diary Study on the Antecedents.
2021
The aim of the current study is to validate the adaptation of the job demands–resources theory to the study context. In addition, we introduce the concepts study crafting and self-undermining to the study demands–resources framework by examining the mediating role of engagement and exhaustion in the relationship between study characteristics and study crafting and self-undermining. Over four consecutive weeks, 205 higher education students answered a questionnaire about their weekly study demands and resources, their well-being (i.e., engagement, exhaustion), and their study crafting and self-undermining behaviors. Multilevel structural equation modeling (controlling for autoregressors of m…
Advances and perspectives of competence research in higher education – Report on the German KoKoHs program
2021
Higher education in Germany is characterized by specific historicalcultural traditions stemming from von Humboldt’s humanistic understanding of education. In this context, higher education focuses on a variety of multi-perspective goals. Accordingly, higher education focuses on both the acquisition of knowledge and skills in specific domains (e.g., medicine, economics) and on the development and promotion of generic (interdisciplinary) skills (e.g., problem solving, critical thinking), whereby the latter aspect is becoming increasingly more important in the 21st century. This paper analyses ten years of competence research in higher education in germany, and considers advances and perspect…
Management as Intervention
2015
In this chapter, Management as Intervention, Richard Ennals presents ideas on an alternative perspective on management. The chapter seeks to apply ideas of sustainability, which is seen as mutual competence building development, to business management and business education. Management is presented in the context of the project “Higher Education in a Sustainable Society”. It takes the opportunity to offer a distinctive Norwegian perspective, going beyond conventional capitalist accounts of business and business education. It offers alternative links to the university curriculum, and recognises that universities are themselves businesses. Management as Intervention may help unify the discour…
