O śląsko-małopolskich sporach granicznych w okresie międzywojennym
2017
Celem artykułu jest próba przedstawienia relacji Górnego Śląska z Małopolską i Krakowem w okresie międzywojennym.
A new small mammal assemblage from the M013 Terre Rosse fissure filling (Gargano, South-Eastern Italy)
2013
Abstract The taxonomic study of the small mammal assemblage from fissure M013, sampled by a team of the University of Torino during the 2005–2009 excavations in the Dell’Erba Quarry (Apricena, Foggia) is presented. The assemblage includes the Echinosoricinae Apulogalerix cf. pusillus and the Crocidosoricinae ?Lartetium cf. dehmi; the Myomiminae species Stertomys simplex and Stertomys lyrifer; a new genus and species of Cricetodontinae and a single specimen of Hattomys cf. nazarii. Muridae include Mikrotia cf. parva, Mikrotia sp. 1 and a new genus and species of Murinae, phylogenetically related to Mikrotia. The occurrence of the new Murinae, the new Cricetodontinae, the two species of gliri…
Precipitation responses to ENSO and IOD in the Maldives: Implications of large-scale modes of climate variability in weather-related preparedness
2020
Abstract This research seeks to address the extent to which indices of large-scale modes of climate variability (El Nino Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD)) can be linked to physical differences in the local mean and extreme rainfall conditions experienced in the Maldives in order to suggest implications for disaster risk reduction (DRR). While some significant differences in precipitation metrics do occur at the local level between different phases of the large-scale modes of climate variability studied, they do not occur for all sites studied. While the constrained availability of historical meteorological data in the region is a limiting factor in this analysis, th…
Trench-parallel spreading ridge subduction and its consequences for the geological evolution of the overriding plate: Insights from analogue models a…
2018
A series of 3-D asthenospheric-scale analogue models have been conducted in the laboratory in order to simulate the arrival of a spreading ridge at the trench and understand its effect on plate kinematics, slab geometry, and on the deformation of the overriding plate. These models are made of a two-layered linearly viscous system simulating the lithosphere and asthenosphere. We reproduce the progressive decrease in thickness of the oceanic lithosphere at the trench. We measure plate kinematics, slab geometry and upper plate deformation. Our experiments reveal that the subduction of a thinning plate beneath a freely moving overriding continent favors a decrease of the subduction velocity and…
CHARACTERIZATION OF CHRONIC HEPATITIS B IN CHILDHOOD USING MOLECULAR BIOLOGY TECHNIQUES
1992
The introduction of molecular biology techniques in the diagnostics of chronic hepatitis B virus infection proved HBV DNA to be the most sensitive marker of viral replication and infectivity. The aim of our study was to characterize the HBV DNA status in children with chronic hepatitis B with various molecular biology techniques in relation to conventional HBV markers. Methods: 206 sera of 172 and liver tissue of 108 children with chronic hepatitis B infection were investigated by dot blot-, Southern blot-, and in situ hybridization. In dot blot and Southern blot negative specimens polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was performed. Results: 111 of the 206 sera were positive for HBV DNA by dot b…
Le diocèse de Salerne au Moyen Âge : dynamiques historiques et organisation de l’espace - The Diocese of Salerne in the Middle Ages: Historical Dynam…
2015
In the middle ages, particularly between the 10th – 14th centuries, the Diocese of Salerno was among the most important ones in southern Italy. Its earliest records date back to the late 5th century and during the 10th it was elevated to archdiocese; so the city of Salerno became the center of a large diocese, among the largest of Southern Italy. This essay reconstructs the history of diocese and its public symbols (like the cathedral), demonstrating consistency with that of other Italian dioceses but, at the same time, also highlighting some specifi city resulting from more general historical dynamics of Salerno and the role it played in the southern part of Italy.
The ecomorphology of southern African rodent incisors: Potential applications to the hominin fossil record.
2018
AbstractThe taxonomic identification of mammalian fauna within fossil assemblages is a well-established component of paleoenvironmental reconstructions. However, many fragmentary specimens recovered from fossil sites are often disregarded as they can be difficult to identify with the precision required for taxonomic methods. For this reason, the large numbers of isolated rodent incisors that are often recovered from hominin fossil bearing sites have generally been seen as offering little interpretive value. Ecomorphological analysis, often referred to as a “taxon-free” method, can potentially circumvent this problem by focusing on the adaptive, rather than the taxonomic significance of rode…
Breizacanthus aznari sp. n. (Acanthocephala: Arhythmacanthidae) from the banded cusk-eel Raneya brasiliensis (Ophidiiformes: Ophidiidae) from the Pat…
2012
Breizacanthus aznari sp. n. is described from the banded cusk-eel Raneya brasiliensis (Kaup) (Ophidiiformes: Ophidiidae) from the Patagonian coast in Argentina. Breizacanthus Golvan, 1969 is currently composed of five species (including the new species) and is characterised by the absence of trunk spines, a short cylindrical proboscis with two types of hooks and lemnisci longer than the proboscis receptacle. Breizacanthus aznari is clearly distinguished from B. chabaudi Golvan, 1969 by having 12 longitudinal rows of hooks on the proboscis, instead of 16-18. The new species resembles B. golvani Gaevskaya et Shukhgalter, 1984, B. irenae Golvan, 1969, and B. ligur Paggi, Orecchia et Della Seta…
Amplification of ETS2 oncogene in acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia with t(6;21;18).
1992
Cytogenetic and molecular studies in a case of acute nonlymphoblastic leukemia (ANLL) are reported in this paper. Bone marrow blasts carried a hypodiploid karyotype with a complex t(6;18;21)(6qter----6p21::21q22----21qter;18qter ----18p11::6p22----6pter; 21pter----21q22::6p21----6p22::18p11----18pte r) and other numerical and structural changes. We studied the organization and the expression of the ETS2 gene which is located on chromosome 21 in order to investigate its possible involvement in the disease. DNA analysis showed a 20-fold amplification of ETS2 sequences; an increase of 3- to 4-fold in the mRNAs level compared to normal was shown by Northern hybridization.
A single mutation alters production and discrimination of Drosophila sex pheromones
2005
0962-8452 (Print) Comparative Study Journal Article Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't; The evolution of communication is a fundamental biological problem. The genetic control of the signal and its reception must be tightly coadapted, especially in inter-individual sexual communication. However, there is very little experimental evidence for tight genetic linkage connecting the emission of a signal and its reception. We found that a single genomic transposon inserted in the desatl gene of Drosophila melanogaster simultaneously affected the emission and the perception of sex-specific signals. This mutation greatly decreased the production of unsaturated hydrocarbons on the cuticle of mature fl…
