<title>Spectral/spatial integration effects on information extraction from multispectral data: multiresolution approaches</title>

1995

New techniques for information extraction from multispectral data require physical modeling to understand the energy transfer at the atmosphere/surface interface and to develop appropriate inversion procedures, in combination with advanced processing techniques. A multi-step procedure is proposed in this work: the first step implies a binary decision about the second step to be applied in each case. If the pixel is considered as being a `pure' pixel, through a spectral/spatial classification procedure based on multiresolution techniques, then numerical inversion techniques, based on a multiple-scattering reflectance model, are used to extract parameters representing specific surface propert…

The galaxy power spectrum take on spatial curvature and cosmic concordance

2020

The concordance of the $\Lambda$CDM cosmological model in light of current observations has been the subject of an intense debate in recent months. The 2018 Planck Cosmic Microwave Background (CMB) temperature anisotropy power spectrum measurements appear at face value to favour a spatially closed Universe with curvature parameter $\Omega_K<0$. This preference disappears if Baryon Acoustic Oscillation (BAO) measurements are combined with Planck data to break the geometrical degeneracy, although the reliability of this combination has been questioned due to the strong tension present between the two datasets when assuming a curved Universe. Here, we approach this issue from yet another point…

Spatial transcriptome of a germinal center plasmablastic burst hints at MYD88/CD79B mutants-enriched diffuse large B-cell lymphomas

2022

The GC reaction results in the selection of B cells acquiring effector Ig secreting ability by progressing toward plasmablastic differentiation. This transition is associated with exclusion from the GC microenvironment. The aberrant expansion of plasmablastic elements within the GC fringes configures an atypical condition, the biological characteristics of which have not been defined yet. We investigated the in situ immunophenotypical and transcriptional characteristics of a nonclonal germinotropic expansion of plasmablastic elements (GEx) occurring in the tonsil of a young patient. Compared to neighboring GC and perifollicular regions, the GEx showed a distinctive signature featuring key r…

Pleistocene and Holocene aeolian sediments of different location and geological history: A new insight from rounding and frosting of quartz grains

2014

Abstract Rounding and frosting of quartz grains in aeolian sediments of the known stratigraphic position and unique geological setting was explored in Finnish, Estonian, Latvian, and Polish localities and in Fuerteventura Island. The aim of the study is to characterize the variability of the spatial pattern of rounding and frosting of quartz grains in the sandy (0.5–0.8 mm) fraction and to evaluate the factors influencing it. The relationships between rounded and non-abraded, as well as matt- and shiny-type quartz grains were calculated for 159 samples and evaluated against the aeolian subenvironment, substratum and presumed age of the locations. The obtained relations do not confirm meridi…

Macroecological properties of ammonites : spatial distribution, phylogeny, and faunal similarity

2016

The present work, which lies between macroecology and macroevolution, focuses on the spatio-temporal dynamics of early Pliensbachian ammonites of the western Tethys. Two main questions are addressed: how does inter-assemblage compositional similarity decrease with geographical distance? What is the relationship between species range size and phylogeny, species duration and latitudinal position?Ammonite dispersal dynamics are studied through a multi-scale Similarity Distance Decay analysis. We show that their long-distance dispersal is facilitated when the environment is more homogeneous and that it is not related to their morphology. This suggests that their long-distance dispersal occurred…

Implantable collamer lens and femtosecond laser for myopia: comparison using an adaptive optics visual simulator.

2014

Purpose: To compare optical and visual quality of implantable collamer lens (ICL) implantation and femtosecond laser in situ keratomileusis (F-LASIK) for myopia. Methods: The CRX1 adaptive optics visual simulator (Imagine Eyes, Orsay, France) was used to simulate the wavefront aberration pattern after the two surgical procedures for -3-diopter (D) and -6-D myopia. Visual acuity at different contrasts and contrast sensitivities at 10, 20, and 25 cycles/degree (cpd) were measured for 3-mm and 5-mm pupils. The modulation transfer function (MTF) and point spread function (PSF) were calculated for 5-mm pupils. Results: F-LASIK MTF was worse than ICL MTF, which was close to diffraction-limited MT…

Myopic astigmatism correction: comparison of a Toric Implantable Collamer Lens and a bioptics technique by an adaptive optics visual simulator.

2013

Purpose To compare the optical and visual quality of a simulated Toric Implantable Collamer Lens (TICL) and a bioptics technique to treat high myopic astigmatism. Methods An adaptive optics visual simulator was used to simulate the vision after TICL implantation and a bioptics procedure from the wavefront aberration pattern for moderate and high-myopic astigmatism. Visual acuity (VA) at different contrasts and contrast sensitivity (CS) at 10, 20 and 25 cycles degree−1 were measured for 3 and 5-mm pupils. Modulation Transfer Function (MTF) and Point Spread Function (PSF) were calculated for a 5-mm pupil. Results At a 3-mm pupil we only found statistically significant differences in VA betwee…

Multitemporal fusion of Landsat/TM and ENVISAT/MERIS for crop monitoring

2013

Abstract Monitoring Earth dynamics using current and future satellites is one of the most important objectives of the remote sensing community. The exploitation of image time series from sensors with different characteristics provides new opportunities to increase the knowledge about environmental changes and to support many operational applications. This paper presents an image fusion approach based on multiresolution and multisensor regularized spatial unmixing. The approach yields a composite image with the spatial resolution of the high spatial resolution image while retaining the spectral and temporal characteristics of the medium spatial resolution image. The approach is tested using …

Through-focus response of multifocal intraocular lenses evaluated with a spatial light modulator

2012

A new testing technique based on the use of a liquid crystal spatial light modulator (SLM) is proposed to analyze the optical quality of multifocal intraocular lenses (MIOLs). Different vergences and decentrations of the incident beam can be programmed onto the SLM in order to record the point spread function (PSF) for different object positions. From these axial PSFs, the through-focus modulation transfer function is computed. Because there are no moving parts in the experimental setup, this method is fast and versatile to assess MIOLs. Experimental results confirm the potential of the proposed method.
