Chemical constituents from Phlomis bovei Noë and their chemotaxonomic significance

Abstract A phytochemical investigation of the leaves and roots of Phlomis bovei Noe (Lamiaceae) led to the isolation of sixteen compounds, including iridoids (1, 2, 3), megastigmanes (4, 5), phenylpropanoids (6, 7, 8, 9, 10), lignans (11, 12, 13, 14), a nortriterpene (15), and a phenyl glucoside (16). Compounds (1, 2, 4, 5, 6, 10) were obtained from the leaves and compounds (1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16) were isolated from the roots. Compounds 1 and 2 were found both in the leaves and in roots. Abstract Methoxymethylation of altholactone ( 1 ) led to the corresponding O -methoxymethyl derivative ( 3 ) in addition to the unexpected 6,7-dihydro-7-methoxy analogue ( 4 ), and two original tetrahydrofuranic (THF) alkyl esters ( 5 , 6 ). Moreover, when we accomplished a new method for the preparation of the furano-pyrone goniofupyrone ( 7 ) through 7-hydroxylation of 1 in acid medium, a minor compound ( 8 ) with an identical skeleton to that of compounds 5 and 6 was identified. Careful examination of the published spectral data of the reported styryl-lactones with an heptolide skeleton reveals that those structures possess also a THF alkyl ester skeleton. Synthesis and characterization of the acetazolamide complexes of Co(II) and Zn(II)

Abstract The preparation and characterization of the complexes of Acetazolamide (Acm) with Co(II) and Zn(II) are described. The complexes are of the type M(Acm) 2 (NH 3 ) 2 . Monodentate or bidentate behaviour of Acm from the electronic properties and the IR spectral data is discussed. The probable structures of the complexes are proposed.
In vivo anti-inflammatory activity of saponins from Bupleurum rotundifolium

Seven oleanane-type triterpene saponins were isolated from the methanolic extract of the aerial parts of Bupleurum rotundifolium. Oxygenated germacranes from Santolina chamaecyparissus

The polar fraction of an extract of Santolina chamaecyparissus ssp. squarrosa yielded six new germacrane derivatives and a novel seco-germacrane lactone. The structures have been derived from spectral data, X-ray diffraction and chemical correlations.

Abstract 1α H ,7α H ,10α H -Guaia-4,11-dien-3-one and its 1β H ,10β H diastereomer, easily obtained from (+)-dihydrocarvone, are good starting materials for the synthesis of natural guaiane derivatives. Allylic oxidation of the 1α H ,10α H isomer gave as main product its 13-hydroxy derivative and a small amount of (+)-7β-hydroxy-1α H ,10α H -guaia-4,11-dien-3-one, whereas the 1β H ,10β H diastereomer afforded selectively the (−)-7α-hydroxy-1β H ,10β H enantiomer in excellent yield. From the 13-hydroxy derivative (+)-pechueloic acid and (+)-methyl pechueloate were synthesized.
