Probing the nature of particle–core couplings in 49Ca with γ spectroscopy and heavy-ion transfer reactions

2011

Neutron rich nuclei around 48Ca have been measured with the CLARA–PRISMA setup, making use of 48Ca on 64Ni binary reactions, at 5.9 MeV/A. Angular distributions of γ rays give evidence, in several transfer channels, for a large spin alignment (≈70%) perpendicular to the reaction plane, making it possible to firmly establish spin and parities of the excited states. In the case of 49Ca, states arising from different types of particle–core couplings are, for the first time, unambiguously identified on basis of angular distribution, polarization and lifetime measurements. Shell model and particle–vibration coupling calculations are used to pin down the nature of the states. Evidence is found fo…

The TES-based cryogenic anticoincidence detector for IXO: First results from large area prototypes

2010

The technique which combines high resolution spectroscopy with imaging capability is a powerful tool to extract fundamental information in X-ray Astrophysics and Cosmology. TES (Transition Edge Sensors)-based microcalorimeters match at best the requirements for doing fine spectroscopy and imaging of both bright (high count rate) and faint (poor signal-to-noise ratio) sources. For this reason they are considered among the most promising detectors for the next high energy space missions and are being developed for use on the focal plane of the IXO (International X-ray Observatory) mission. In order to achieve the required signal-to-noise ratio for faint or diffuse sources it is necessary to r…

Sun Induced Fluorescence Calibration and Validation for Field Phenotyping

2018

Reliable measurements of Sun Induced Fluorescence (SIF) require a good instrument characterization as well as a complex processing chain. In this paper, we summarize the state of the art SIF retrieval methods and measurements platforms for field phenotyping. Furthermore, we use HyScreen, hyperspectral-imaging system for top of canopy measurements of SIF, as an example of the instrument requirements, data process, and data validation needed to obtain reliable measurements of SIF.

HICO L1 and L2 data processing: Radiometric recalibration, atmospheric correction and retrieval of water quality parameters

2015

The Hyperspectral Imager for the Coastal Ocean (HICO) is an imaging spectrometer designed with a very high signal-to-noise ratio to monitor coastal ocean and inland waters. The processing of Top-Of-Atmosphere radiance data down to surface reflectance is fundamental for the retrieval of water quality products. However, the current HICO processing chain does not provide atmospheric corrected data nor higher-level water quality products. This paper describes the algorithms implemented within an HICO data processing chain that includes image pre-processing, atmospheric correction and the retrieval of water quality parameters. The implemented algorithms have been validated over a set of HICO ima…

HICO level-2 data processing toolbox for the atmospheric correction and the retrieval of water quality parameters

2014

The Hyperspectral Imager for the Coastal Ocean (HICO) is an imaging spectrometer specifically designed to monitor the coastal ocean. The processing of Top-Of-Atmosphere (TOA) radiance data down to surface reflectance is fundamental for the retrieval of water quality products. However, the current HICO processing chain does not provide atmospheric corrected data nor higher-level water quality products. This work describes a toolbox for the atmospheric correction of HICO data and the retrieval of water quality products. The HICO toolbox, consisting on three main modules (image pre-processing, atmospheric correction and retrieval of water quality products), has been used over a set of HICO ima…

Noise reduction in asteroid imaging using a miniaturized spectral imager

2021

In October 2024, European Space Agency’s Hera mission will be launched, targeting the binary asteroid Didymos. Hera will host the Juventas and Milani CubeSats, the first CubeSats to orbit close to a small celestial body performing scientific and technological operations. The primary scientific payload of the Milani CubeSat is the SWIR, NIR, and VIS imaging spectrometer ASPECT. The Milani mission objectives include mapping the global composition and the characterization of the binary asteroid surface. Onboard data processing and evaluation steps will be applied due to the limited data budget for the downlink to Earth and to perform the technological demonstration of a novel semi-autonomous h…

Influence of the differentiation system on the analytical parameters for the spectrophotometric determination of clonazepam in urine

1991

Abstract Electronic and mathematical differentiation of the ultraviolet visible spectra were compared from the study of the analytical parameters of the direct determination of clonazepam in urine samples. Third-order derivative spectra were used. The mathematical differentiation provides higher sensitivity, a lower limit of detection, and better accuracy and precision than the electronic one. The use of a diode array instrument provides lower sensitivity than that found using a conventional spectrometer; however, the limit of detection obtained in both cases is of the same order.

Determination of amitraz and its transformation products in pears by ethyl acetate extraction and liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

2008

A method has been developed for identification and quantification of the acaricide amitraz and its transformation products, 2,4-dimethylaniline (DMA), 2,4-dimethylformamidine (DMF) and N-2,4-dimethylphenyl-N-methylformamidine (DMPF) in pears. The analytes were extracted using ethyl acetate and anhydrous sodium sulphate. Analysis was performed by liquid chromatography-electrospray tandem mass spectrometry (LC-ESI-MS/MS) in the positive ion mode using a triple quadrupole (QqQ) instrument. Two precursor-product ion transitions were monitored for each compound in the selected reaction monitoring (SRM) mode. The method was validated with pears taken from the orchard before the amitraz treatment …

Optimization of LC–MS/MS using triple quadrupole mass analyzer for the simultaneous analysis of carbosulfan and its main metabolites in oranges

2006

This paper describes an analytical method involving a simple solvent extraction for the simultaneous liquid chromatography coupled to quadrupole tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) determination of carbosulfan, its most toxic metabolite--carbofuran--, and its other main metabolites--3-hydroxycarbofuran, 3-ketocarbofuran, 3-hydroxy-7-phenolcarbofuran, 3-keto-7-phenolcarbofuran, 7-phenolcarbofuran and dibutylamine--in oranges. Chromatography was performed on a Zorbax Bonus-RP (150 mm x 2.1 mm, 5 microm). The mobile phase was a ternary gradient water-methanol-acetonitrile with 1.0 mM ammonium acetate at flow rate of 0.2 ml min(-1). The LC separation and MS/MS optimization were studied to selec…

Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry to identify contaminants in water: an insight on environment…

2013

Ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography-quadrupole time-of-flight mass spectrometry (UHPLC-QqTOF-MS) acquiring full scan MS data for quantification, and automatic data dependent information product ion spectra (IDA-MS/MS) without any predefinition of the ions by the user was checked for identifying organic contaminants in water samples. The use of a database with more than 2000 compounds achieved high confidence results for a wide number of contaminants based upon retention time, accurate mass, isotopic pattern and MS/MS library searching. More than 20 contaminants, mostly pharmaceuticals, but also mycotoxins and polyphenols were unambiguously identified. Furthermore, the combination of s…
