Geometry of conjugated double bonds of CLA isomers in a commercial mixture and in their hepatic 20∶4 metabolites
1999
Rats were fed a fat-free diet for 2 wk. After this period, while maintaining the animals on the same diet, the rats were given intragastrically 180 mg per day of a mixture of conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) as triacylglycerols. Gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS) analyses of this mixture, as well as hydrazine reduction and GC-MS and GC-Fourier transform infrared analyses of the resulting monoenes, revealed the presence of two major isomers, the 9c,11t- and the 10t,12c-18:2 accompanied by smaller amounts of the 8t, 10c and the 11c, 13t-18:2 isomers. Minor quantities of cis,cis and trans, trans conjugated isomers also were detected. The total fatty acid methyl esters from the liver li…
A detailed identification study on high-temperature degradation products of oleic and linoleic acid methyl esters by GC–MS and GC–FTIR
2012
GC-MS and GC-FTIR were complementarily applied to identify oxidation compounds formed under frying conditions in methyl oleate and linoleate heated at 180ºC. The study was focused on the compounds that originated through hydroperoxide scission that remain attached to the glyceridic backbone in fats and oils and form part of non-volatile molecules. Twenty one short-chain esterified compounds, consisting of 8 aldehydes, 3 methyl ketones, 4 primary alcohols, 5 alkanes and 1 furan, were identified. In addition, twenty non-esterified volatile compounds, consisting of alcohols, aldehydes and acids, were also identified as major non-esterified components. Furanoid compounds of 18 carbon atoms form…
Substituted Dibenzothiophenes I: Synthesis, Chromatography, Mass Spectrometry and Structure Elucidation by1H NMR Spectroscopy
1992
Abstract Some polychlorinated and polymethylated dibenzothiophenes have been synthesized to serve as model compounds in environmental analysis. In order to obtain pure isomers, the synthesis mixtures have been fractionated with reversed-phase high performance liquid chromatography. In spite of a high sensitivity, mass spectrometry does not provide any reliable way to determine the precise structures of different isomers. Therefore, 1H NMR spectroscopy has been utilized as an aid in their analysis. The structures for two isomeric tetramethyldibenzothiophenes could be suggested on the basis of their 1H NMR spectra. Also some proposals for possible structures of two isomeric trimethyldibenzoth…
First synthesis of single-“strapped cyclam-porphyrins”
1994
The first synthesis of strapped cyclam porphyrins is described ; these will be studied as dioxygen carriers as well as cytochrome C oxidase models. The original derivatives are characterized by mass spectrometry and 1H NMR spectroscopy. The cofacial conformation of the two different macrocycles is confirmed by 1H NMR data.

Cheese flavour : instrumental techniques
2004
This chapter discusses instrumental techniques to analyze cheese flavor. It focuses on recent advances made to study and identify the taste-active components present in the water-soluble fraction of cheese. A general procedure for the preparation of fractions involves an extraction of grated cheese by water followed by a fractionation scheme, generally adapted from the fractionation protocol used to isolate cheese nitrogen fractions in the study of proteolysis in cheese during ripening. However, as sub-fractions have to be evaluated sensorially to assess their relative sensory impact and try to link it to their chemical composition, a suitable eluent has to be used in the chromatographic st…
Volatile components of dry-cured ham
1991
The volatile components of dry-cured ham were isolated by vacuum distillation and analyzed by gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. The structures of 76 molecules were identified by mass spectrometry, cochromatography, or measured Kovats indices. The compounds identified may come from the catabolism of the main constituent parts of the meat (glucids, lipids and protids) during the curing of the hams, from the pig feed, or from technological processes. The volatile compounds extracted from 50 g of ham according to the technique described correspond to a chromatographical surface equivalent to 0.12 mg of the dodecane internal standard, or approximately 2.4 ppm of the weight of the sample. Fla…
An experimental search for a correlation between outdoor 222Rn concentration and 210Pb activity in air particulate samples
2018
This work was aimed to search for a correlation between outdoor 222Rn air concentration and 210Pb activity in particulate samples collected on a filter. The existence of a correlation could support the hypothesis that both 222Rn and its long-lived product 210Pb are embedded into the same air masses and undergo the same air transport phenomena. Lead-210 activity was determined by means of gamma ray spectrometric measurement carried out a few days after the sampling whereas 222Rn concentration was measured through a commercial monitor. Experimental tests allowed to obtain a weak correlation between 222Rn and 210Pb air concentration as a preliminary result due to high uncertainties of outdoor …
Chiral Serum Pharmacokinetics of 4-Fluoroamphetamine after Controlled Oral Administration
2021
Abstract Over the last two decades, misuse of 4-fluoroamphetamine (4-FA) became an emerging issue in many European countries. Stimulating effects last for 4–6 hours and can impact psychomotor performance. The metabolism of amphetamine-type stimulants is stereoselective and quantification of (R)- and (S)-enantiomers has been suggested for assessing time of use. To date, no data on enantioselective pharmacokinetics is available for 4-FA in serum samples. An enantioselective liquid chromatography−tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS-MS) method was developed using a chiral Phenomenex® Lux 3 μm AMP column. Validation of the method showed satisfactory selectivity, sensitivity, linearity (0.5–250 ng/mL…
Determination of mercury at picogram level in natural waters with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry by using 3D printed metal scavengers
2019
The determination of ultra-trace concentrations of Hg in natural water samples via preconcentration using 3D printed metal scavenger technique followed by inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) was developed. The determination of Hg in certified reference material ERM-CA615 (groundwater) was performed with high accuracy and precision resulting in recovery of 100 ± 3% and RSD <2.5%, respectively. Selective laser sintering (SLS) 3D printing was used to fabricate the scavengers using a mixture of polyamide-12 powder with thiol-functionalized silica. The preconcentration procedure is based on the adsorption of Hg on the scavenger and followed by elution of the preconcentrated Hg …
