Temperature measurement in gas mixtures by femtosecond Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy
2003
The potential of femtosecond Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy (RIPS) for the simultaneous determination of temperature and concentrations was investigated. These measurements were related to the rotational time response of the molecular gas mixture, which was measured as a function of the pump-probe time delay. The change of the polarizability anisotropy with respect to the vibrational levels was taken into account. The results of temperature measurements in pure CO2 showed good agreement with the values obtained by a thermocouple. The RIPS technique was also applied to a CO2-N2 gas mixture to determine simultaneously temperatures and concentrations at temperatures up to 600 K. The a…
Self-assembly in surfactant-based liquid mixtures: Bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid/bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine systems
2010
Surfactant-based liquid mixtures constitute an interesting class of nanostructured materials with promising potential in specialized applications. Here, structural and conductometric properties of liquid mixtures composed of bis(2-ethylhexyl)amine (BEEA) and bis(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid (HDEHP) have been thoroughly investigated with the aim to correlate structural features with system charge transport capability. The evolution of self-assembled local nanostructures with system composition has been investigated by FT-IR and XRD while the conductometric properties were probed by conventional AC complex impedance. Both pure components exhibit nano-segregation due to their amphiphilic natur…
Determination of hexacelsian by infrared spectroscopy.
1984
Hexacelsian has been determined by infrared spectroscopy with KBr discs and K(4)Fe(CN)(6) as internal standard. A KBr particle size of40 mum gave better homogenization of the sample-KBr mixture than a particle size in the 40-70 mum range. For determinations of hexacelsian in synthetic samples containing amorphous phase or celsian, calibration curves were constructed. A least-squares fit yielded correlation coefficients of 0.998 and 0.997.

Tansy fruit mediated greener synthesis of silver and gold nanoparticles
2010
Abstract In this paper we have reported the green synthesis of silver (AgNPs) and gold (AuNPs) nanoparticles by reduction of silver nitrate and chloroauric acid solutions, respectively, using fruit extract of Tanacetum vulgare ; commonly found plant in Finland. The process for the synthesis of AgNPs and AuNPs is rapid, novel and ecofriendly. Formation of the AgNPs and AuNPs were confirmed by surface plasmon spectra using UV–Vis spectrophotometer and absorbance peaks at 452 and 546 nm. Different tansy fruit extract concentration (TFE), silver and gold ion concentration, temperature and contact times were experimented in the synthesis of AgNPs and AuNPs. The properties of prepared nanoparticl…
Hydrogel-supported protein-tethered bilayer lipid membranes: a new approach toward polymer-supported lipid membranes
2011
Polymer-supported bilayer lipid membranes offer great opportunities for the investigation of functional membrane proteins. Here we present a new approach in this direction by introducing a thin hydrogel layer as a soft ‘cushion’ on indium–tin oxide (ITO), providing a smooth, functional surface to form the protein-tethered BLM (ptBLM). ITO was used as a transparent electrode, enabling simultaneous implementation of electrochemical and optical waveguide techniques. The hydrogel poly(N-(2-hydroxyethyl)acrylamide-co-5-acrylamido-1-carboxypentyl-iminodiacetate-co-4-benzoylphenyl methacrylate) (P(HEAAm-co-NTAAAm-co-MABP)) was functionalized with the nickel chelating nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA) gr…
Experimental evidence of E’_gamma centers generation from oxygen vacancies in a-SiO2
2007
Abstract We report on the thermal treatment effects in a γ-ray irradiated oxygen deficient amorphous silicon dioxide (a-SiO2) containing Al impurities. We observed that by thermal treatments the intensity of the 7.6 eV optical absorption band, associated to an oxygen deficient center, and the EPR signal amplitude of irradiation induced [AlO4]0 centers gradually decrease. During these thermal treatments, the E γ ′ centers concentration is found to increase in a correlated way to the decrease of the 7.6 eV absorption amplitude. These results are interpreted assuming an hole-transfer process from the [AlO4]0 centers to the diamagnetic oxygen vacancies, resulting in the generation of E γ ′ cent…
Sodium nitrate and tungsten as matrix modifiers for the determination of arsenic in shotgun pellets by electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry
2001
A method for the determination of arsenic in a complicated sample matrix by Zeeman effect electrothermal atomic absorption spectrometry using tungsten and sodium nitrate as matrix modifiers was developed. The determination of arsenic in SRM C2416 (Bullet Lead) and SRM 2710 (Montana Soil) by ETAAS using a mixture of palladium and magnesium nitrate as a matrix modifier failed to obtain the certified concentrations at the 95% level of confidence using the t-test. Both tungsten and sodium nitrate as matrix modifiers stabilized arsenic so that the certified concentrations of the SRMs were determined with high accuracy and precision (RSD 0.999), with low detection and quantification limits, wer…
Determination of concentrations in ternary and quaternary molecular gas mixtures using femtosecond Raman spectroscopy
2002
Measurements of concentrations in gas mixtures of three and four molecular components are presented. They rely on a femtosecond time-resolved pump–probe technique based on Raman-induced polarization spectroscopy. The rotational time response of the molecular gas mixture is measured as a function of the pump–probe time delay. No selective frequency tunability is needed as the molecular rotational spectra are excited within the laser bandwidth. The results obtained from experiments performed at room temperature in N2O–CO2–N2 and N2O–CO2–O2–N2 mixtures are presented and the accuracy of the method is discussed.
