Formation of a novel ferromagnetic end-to-end cyanate bridged homochiral helical copper(ii) Schiff base complex via spontaneous symmetry breaking

2014

A homochiral helical coordination polymer of copper(II) has been synthesized using achiral precursors via spontaneous symmetry breaking and has been confirmed by single crystal X-ray diffraction and solid-state CD spectroscopy. The variable temperature magnetic measurements indicate the presence of weak ferromagnetic exchange interactions mediated by end-to-end cyanate bridges (J = +0.12 cm(-1)).

A Comprehensive Spectroscopic Analysis of the Ibuprofen Binding with Human Serum Albumin, Part II

2021

Human serum albumin (HSA) is the most abundant human plasma protein. HSA plays a crucial role in many binding endos- and exogenous substances, which affects their pharmacological effect. The innovative aspect of the study is not only the interaction of fatted (HSA) and defatted (dHSA) human serum albumin with ibuprofen (IBU), but the analysis of the influence of temperature on the structural modifications of albumin and the interaction between the drug and proteins from the temperature characteristic of near hypothermia (308 K) to the temperature reflecting inflammation in the body (312 K and 314 K). Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. IBU is used to relieve acute pain, inf…

Investigations of Chl a aggregates cross-linked by dioxane in 3-methylpentane

1997

In this work, dioxane-bound aggregates of chlorophyll a are prepared in 3-methylpentane. The properties of the aggregates are studied by using steady-state and time-resolved spectroscopies. The Q -region absorption spectrum of the y chlorophyll a-dioxane aggregate shows four clearly resolvable narrow bands with comparable intensities. The band maxima are located at 683, 689, 698 and 702 nm. The emission spectrum consists of two emission bands centred at 699 and 702 nm suggesting the presence of two types of aggregates. High degree of fluorescence polarization is detected yielding the angles between the absorption transition moments with respect to the 702 nm emission transition moment. The …

Aß(25-35) and its C-and/or N-blocked derivatives: copper driven structural features and neurotoxicity

2006

The toxic properties of beta-amyloid protein, Abeta(1-42), the major component of senile plaques in Alzheimer's disease, depend on nucleation-dependent oligomerization and aggregation. In addition, Abeta(1-42) toxicity is favored by the presence of trace metals, which affect the secondary structure of the peptide. A peptide comprising 11 residues within Abeta(1-42) [Abeta(25-35)] aggregates and retains the neurotoxic activity of Abeta(1-42). We have used both Abeta(25-35) and its C-amidated or N-acetylated/C-amidated derivatives to investigate the role of copper(II) in modulating the conformation and aggregation state as well as the neurotoxic properties of amyloid peptides. Electrospray io…

Kaemgalangol A: Unusual seco-isopimarane diterpenoid from aromatic ginger Kaempferia galanga.

2018

Abstract A new unusual seco-isopimarane, kaemgalangol A (1) and 12 usual analogs (2−13) were isolated from the rhizomes of Kaempferia galanga (Family: Zingiberaceae). KaemgalangolA (1) represented a rarely isolated 9,10-seco-isopimarane skeleton. The chemical structures of the isolated compounds were mainlyinvestigated by spectroscopic techniques such as 1D, 2D NMR, and HRMS. The absolute configuration of 1–3 was studied by X-ray diffraction analysis as well as experimental and TDDFT-calculated electronic circular dichroism. Among the isolated diterpenoids, 5, 6 and 9 exhibited cytotoxic activity against HeLa (IC50 75.1, 74.2 and 76.5 μM, respectively) and HSC-2 (IC50 69.9, 53.3 and 58.2 μM…

Ancistrolikokine I and further 5,8'-coupled naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids from the Congolese liana Ancistrocladus likoko and their cytotoxic activit…

2018

Abstract The Congolese liana Ancistrocladus likoko (Ancistrocladaceae) produces naphthylisoquinoline alkaloids that are, chemotaxonomically remarkable, all based on the same coupling type, with the biaryl axis located between C-5 and C-8′. About 20 alkaloids, belonging to the subclass of 5,8′-linked naphthylisoquinolines, have so far been discovered in this plant species. Here, we report on the isolation and structure elucidation of six further such 5,8′-coupled monomeric alkaloids, named ancistrolikokines I (9), C3 (10), F2 (11), J (12), J2 (13), and J3 (14). They were identified in the twigs of A. likoko, along with the two new atropo-diastereomeric dimers michellamines A8 (15a) and B8 (1…

Ancistectorine D, a naphthylisoquinoline alkaloid with antiprotozoal and antileukemic activities, and further 5,8'- and 7,1'-linked metabolites from …

2016

From the twigs and stems of the Chinese liana Ancistrocladus tectorius (Ancistrocladaceae), two new 5,8'-coupled naphthylisoquinolines, ancistectorine D (5) and its 6-O-demethyl derivative 6, were isolated, along with two new 7,1'-linked alkaloids, 6-O-methylancistectorine B1 (7) and ancistectorine B2 (8). Two further compounds, ancistroealaine A (4) and 6-O-demethyl-8-O-methyl-7-epi-ancistrobrevine D (10), already known from related Asian and African Ancistrocladus species, were discovered for the first time in A. tectorius. The structure elucidation was achieved by spectroscopic analysis including HRESIMS, 1D and 2D NMR, and by chemical (oxidative degradation) and chiroptical (circular di…

Induced Chirality in Confined Space on Halogen Gold Complexes

2015

The solubilization of HAuCl4 in toluene within optically active reverse micelles and lamellar structures formed by (1R,2S)-Dodecyl(2-hydroxy-1-methyl-2-phenylethyl)- dimethylammonium bromide (DMEB) has allowed us to evidence the complex phenomenology accompanying the confinement of Au salt within these nanostructures. Together with a chloride/bromide exchange process occurring in the first coordination sphere of an Au ion, UV−vis and electronic circular dichroism (ECD) spectra reveal the appearance of an induced dichroic signal attributable to Au complexes entrapped in the hydrophilic domain of the DMEB chiral nanostructures. Interestingly, change of the effective oxidation state and coordi…

Dichroism in VUV photoemission from the (0001)-surfaces of ultrathin Gd and Nd films on W(110)

1997

Abstract Ultrathin layers of Gd and Nd epitaxially grown on W(110) have been investigated using linearly and circularly polarised light at the 6.5 m NIM beamline at the BESSY storage ring in Berlin. The high quality of the films was monitored by the sharp and dispersionless surface state just below the Fermi energy. The CDAD (circular dichroism in the angular distribution of photoelectrons) measurements showed strong effects in the surface states as well as in the valence bands. The LMDAD (linear magnetic dichroism in…) from Gd(0001) showed a small, but significant splitting of the surface state. This splitting can be reproduced by numerical one-step calculations based on spin-dependent sur…

Circular dichroism in angular resolved photoemission from pure and Rb-doped C60 and C22H14 layers on platinum and tungsten

1997

Abstract Polycrystalline C60 and Pentacene films grown on W(110) and Pt(111) have been studied in valence band photoemission using circularly polarised synchrotron radiation from BESSY with special emphasis on circular dichroism in photoemission. For thin films of C60, dichroic asymmetries of about 10% occur independent of the temperature and the substrate hinting that the rotation of the topmost layer is hindered even at room temperature. For Pentacene we found asymmetries up to 50% in the region of the σ-electrons. Moreover, we found for this molecule a dichroic asymmetry in normal emission, that is a forbidden geometry. This hints on adsorption with the molecules perpendicularly oriented…
