An environmental study by factor analysis of surface seawaters in the Gulf of Valencia (Western Mediterranean)
1999
Abstract A study is made on the quality of coastal waters in the Gulf of Valencia (Spain) in terms of contamination markers including microbiological agents, toxic heavy metals and nutrients that adversely affect the environment. Relationships are also established between these factors and other physical and chemical parameters. A multivariate analysis is conducted where a total of 14 parameters are established for 919 water samples corresponding to 52 sampling points along the coast of the province of Valencia – specifically, total and fecal coliforms, fecal streptococci, Ni(II), Zn(II), Pb(II), Cd(II), Cu(II) and Cr(VI) concentrations, nitrates, phosphates, dissolved oxygen and finally pH…
DNA Extraction From Orthoptera Museum Specimens
2011
We describe a procedure for rapid purification of high quality DNA from either fresh or dry Orthoptera, suitable for the PCR amplification of DNA regions more than 800 bp long (even from oldest specimens), which allows genetic analyses on animals from collections without the complete specimen disruption.
1H 2D-NMR characterization of Ni(II)-substituted azurin fromPseudomonas aeruginosa
1993
1 H two-dimemional NMR experiments on nickel(II)-substituted azurin have been succesfully applied. Despite the short relaxation time of the hyperfine-shifted resonances, the combined use of NOESY and COSY spectra allowed the alignment of 15 resonances belonging to the metal-coordinated residues Gly-45, His-46, His-117 and Met-121. Even in the case of the two broad and furthest downfield resonances, the NOESY spectra were successful in assigning these signals to the β-CH 2 protons of Cys-112. The protons of the non-coordinated residues Met-13, Phe-15 and Trp-48 were also assigned via NOESY, COSY and TOCSY experiments
Three New Medicagenic Acid Saponins from Polygala micranthaGuill. & Perr.
2011
Three new medicagenic acid saponins, micranthosides A–C (1–3), were isolated from the roots of Polygala micranthaGuill. & Perr., along with six known presenegenin saponins. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of extensive 1D- and 2D-NMR experiments (1H, 13C, DEPT, COSY, TOCSY, NOESY, HSQC, and HMBC) and mass spectrometry as 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosylmedicagenic acid 28-[O-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(14)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-β-D-fucopyranosyl] ester (1), 3-O-β-D-glucopyranosylmedicagenic acid 28-[O-6-O-acetyl-β-D-galactopyranosyl-(14)-O-β-D-xylopyranosyl-(14)-O-α-L-rhamnopyranosyl-(12)-β-D-fucopyranosyl] ester (2), and 3-O-{O-β-D-glucopyranosyl-(13)-O-[β-D-gluc…

Electrochemical biosensors for glucose based on metal nanoparticles
2013
Abstract Nanotechnology has affected almost all aspects of biomedicine. The integration of nanomaterials has contributed to the selectivity, the versatility, the stability and especially the sensitivity of bioelectronic devices, including biosensors. In this field, nanomaterials have been employed as enzyme immobilizers, enzyme stabilizers, surface modifiers or labeling factors or have provided individualized catalytic effects. Among other sensing platforms, glucose biosensors are of special clinical and industrial significance because of their role in monitoring blood-glucose levels in diabetes mellitus, one of the most prevalent metabolic disorders worldwide. Similar to other sensing plat…
Identification of local and allochthonous flint artefacts from the Middle Palaeolithical site ‘Abrigo de la Quebrada’ (Chelva, Valencia, Spain) by ma…
2015
This work summarizes the characterization of flint artefacts from the Middle Palaeolithic site ‘Abrigo de la Quebrada’ (Chelva, Valencia, Spain) and flint geological samples collected in the Chelva area. Additionally, some flint artefacts located outside this geographical zone were also analysed and compared with the samples from the Abrigo de la Quebrada site. Flint samples have been studied using methods of macroscopic description and physicochemical analysis [energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (EDXRF) and X-ray diffraction (XRD)]. Multivariate statistical analysis of the EDXRF data and the determination of the crystalline index of quartz, obtained from the XRD patterns, ar…

Abstract Reaction of Ph3SnLi with Ph2SiCl2 or Ph2GeCl2 at −78°C in THF yields (Ph3Sn)2SiPh2 (1) and (Ph3Sn)2GePh2 (2). The crystal structure of 1 (R = 0.075) exhibits SnSi distances of 257.2(4) and 257.9(5) pm, an SnSiSn angle of 118.5(2)°, and a central C3SnSiC2SnC3 molecular skeleton with symmetry close to C2. The geminal NMR coupling 2J(119Sn ⋯ 119Sn) in 1, and in a tri-, tetra- and pentastannane series shows a linear correlation to their respective non-bonded d(Sn ⋯ Sn) distances (I(t-Bu2Sn)4I: 20 Hz/496 pm; 1: 724 Hz/443 pm).
Hydroquinone derivatives from the marine-derived fungus Gliomastix sp.
2017
Eight new hydroquinone derivatives, gliomastins A–D (1–4), 9-O-methylgliomastin C (5), acremonin A 1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (6), gliomastin E 1-O-β-D-glucopyranoside (7), and 6′-O-acetyl-isohomoarbutin (8), together with seven known analogues were isolated from the marine-derived fungus Gliomastix sp. Their structures were elucidated by extensive spectroscopic analysis including 1D and 2D NMR measurements aided by DFT NMR calculations as well as MS data. TDDFT-ECD and OR calculations were performed to determine the absolute configurations of 1 and the aglycones of 6 and 7. Compound 1 features a novel skeleton, biogenetically derived from a Diels–Alder reaction between derivatives of 11 and 1…
