Saliva electrophoretic protein profiles in infants: changes with age and impact of teeth eruption and diet transition.

International audience; Objective : The objective of this study was to describe the changes in salivary protein profiles in infants between the ages of 3 and 6 months, and to evaluate the impact of teeth eruption and introduction of solid foods on such profiles. Design : 73 infants were followed longitudinally at 3 and 6 months of age. Their whole saliva proteins were separated by SDS–PAGE electrophoresis and semi-quantified by image analysis. Amylase activity was also measured on a sub-sample of the population (n=42 infants). BACKGROUND: Characterization of periodontal ligament (PDL) fibroblast proteome is an important tool for understanding PDL physiology and regulation and for identifying disease-related protein markers. PDL fibroblast protein expression has been studied using immunological methods, although limited to previously identified proteins for which specific antibodies are available. METHODS: We applied proteomic analysis coupled with mass spectrometry and database knowledge to human PDL fibroblasts. Determination of microcystins in fish by solvent extraction and liquid chromatography

A liquid chromatography electrospray mass spectrometry (LC/ESI/MS) method has been developed to identify and quantify microcystins in fish liver and intestine. Microcystins (MCs) were extracted from 500 mg sample with methanol-water (85:25, v/v) and the extracts concentrated to 250 microl. The parameters were optimized by a full factorial 2(3) design. Neither laborious pre-treatment nor clean up were necessary. MCs were separated using conventional C18 column and an acetonitrile-acidified water (pH 3) gradient. We present the photoinduced size/structure transformation of [Au37-xAgx(PPh3)13Cl10]3+ (M37) into [Au25-yAgy(PPh3)10Cl8]+ (M25) cluster. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that M37 has a tri-icosahedron M36 metal core assembled via the fusion of three Au7Ag6 icosahedrons in a cyclic fashion and that the M36 core is further protected by phosphine and chloride ligands. The M37 cluster is found to be highly sensitive toward ambient light, and the M37 → M25 transition is observed with 530 nm irradiation, monitored by time-dependent UV-vis spectroscopy, electrospray ionization mass spectrometry (ESI-MS), and femtosecond transient absorption spectroscopy. Heterostructured metal oxides-ZnO nanorods films prepared by SPPS route for photodegradation applications

Abstract This work presents the first preparation using the Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process of heterostructured films associating ZnO nanorods (NRs) and various metal oxides (CuO, Fe2O3 and Co3O4) by Solution Precursor Plasma Spray process. These CuO/ZnO, Fe2O3/ZnO and Co3O4/ZnO films exhibit hierarchically chocolate sticks-like, dandelion-like or chrysanthemum-like surface morphologies. These heterostructures were confirmed by SEM, XRD, EDS and Raman analyses. The bandgaps of heterostructured films are narrower than that of pure ZnO. Abstract The fatigue life of thermally sprayed Al2O3- and Cr2O3-based coatings has been studied under low-energy (0.7–5 mJ) impact conditions. A threshold impact energy and amount of repetitions the coatings can endure with said energy before catastrophic failure was obtained. The catastrophic failure was determined to occur when the fracture mode of the coating switched from brittle cone cracking to quasi-plastic radial cracking.
