Exposure to nanoparticles in thermal spraying - Vigilance towards the operator and the outside environment
2021
International audience; The previous survey of the French CaRPE project has shown a lack of information and showed the interest to assess the residual exposure to these particles. This paper presents the results of various sampling operations and emission analyses of plasma spraying equipment. For this purpose, different areas have been targeted, such as at the level of the emissions channeled upstream and downstream of the filtration system, at the workstation level as well as fugitive emissions. Various measurements were carried out: real-time particle size distribution, mass concentration of total suspended dust, heavy metals, sampling characterization by EDX/ MET, etc. The metallic aero…
Proposed use of spatial mortality assessments as part of the pesticide evaluation scheme for vector control
2013
Background: The WHO Pesticide Evaluation Scheme to evaluate the efficacy of insecticides does not include the testing of a lethal effect at a distance. A tool was developed to evaluate the spatial mortality of an insecticide product against adult mosquitoes at a distance under laboratory and field conditions. Operational implications are discussed. Methods: Insecticide paint, Inesfly 5A IGR (TM), containing two organophosphates (OPs): chlorpyrifos and diazinon, and one insect growth regulator (IGR): pyriproxyfen, was the product tested. Laboratory tests were performed using "distance boxes" with surfaces treated with one layer of control or insecticide paint at a dose of 1 kg/6 sq m. Field …

Spot spraying in oilseeds and protein crops
2019
International audience; Currently, spraying chemical products in agriculture became the main means of weed controlbecause this cultural practice is very fast, inexpensive and very effective. However, awarenessof their negative impacts (environment, human health) requires thinking about new technicaland agronomic solutions. New technologies are promising techniques for a site-specific weedmanagement through the development of localized spraying. Some sprayers (often small width) located on the row may be able to answer thoseexpectations but they are most often expensive. In this context, the objective of the project“PLEVOP” (development of spot sprayer in oilseed and protein crops), proposed …
Automatic analyzis of droplet impact by high speed imaging
2012
International audience; The impact of agricultural activities on the water quality is the consequence of the loss of fertilisers (chemical fertilisers, livestock effluent, also referred to as farm fertiliser, food-processing effluent and sludge) and crop treatment products (phytosanitary products). This pollution may prevent certain uses of water, notably its use for human and animal food (groundwater and surface water), and leads to a deterioration in aquatic environments. In the domain of vineyard precision spraying research, one of the most important objectives is to minimize the volume of phytosanitary products. It is also to be more environmentally respectful with more effective vine l…
Robotics for weed control: I-Weed Robot for a specific spraying
2012
International audience; To preserve environment for a sustainable agriculture, we explore the development of a new autonomous robot, called I-Weed Robot (Intelligent Weed Robot), which aims at reducing herbicides in crop fields (maize, sunflower...). Using a high precision positioning signal (RTK) to locate the robot in the field, a Kaman filter and a proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID controller) allow adjusting the orientation of the robot depending on a predefined trajectory. As for the spraying system, a camera in front of the mobile platform detects weed plants thanks to an image processing based on a crop/weed discrimination algorithm (Hough Transform). At the back a spr…
Study of low-pressure suspension plasma spray nanostructured coating : structural characteristics and application in solid oxide fuel cell
2021
Suspension plasma spraying (SPS) has attracted more and more attention in terms of the preparation of nanostructured / sub-microstructured ceramic coatings. However, conventional SPS techniques are conducted under atmospheric pressure, which inevitably causes some disadvantages. Recently, a novel suspension spraying technology – low-pressure suspension plasma spraying (LPSPS) – was proposed, in which the sus-pension spraying process is conducted under low environmental pressure. Benefit from the significant impact of low pressure on the coating deposition, LPSPS is expected to improve the disadvantage of SPS as well as to obtain distinct coating structures not achievable in conventional SPS…
Modélisation d'images agronomiques - application a la reconnaissance d'adventices par imagerie pour une pulvérisation localisée
2009
Plant (crop and weed) identification is a very active field of research in agriculture since the reinforcement of European laws about pesticide applications for a site-specific management of spraying practices. A new crop/weed simulation model was developed to allow the evaluation of crop/weed spatial identification methods from imaging. Considering multiples agronomic parameters – crop location, weed infestation rate, weed spatial distribution – the first step of this model allows the simulation of an infested crop field. Then, in a second step, a world to camera transformation is applied to allow every kind of picture (with or without perspective effect). The validation of this model was …
Influence of laminated architectures of heterostructured CeO2-ZnO and Fe2O3-ZnO films on photodegradation performances
2020
Abstract The development of photocatalytically active films has gained a great attention in recent years. Herein, new heterostructured films associating ZnO and CeO2 or Fe2O3 and exhibiting various architectures were prepared by the solution precursor thermal spray (SPPS) process. The paper examines the effect of the films laminated architectures on the photodegradation performance. For CeO2-ZnO and Fe2O3-ZnO films, the photodegradation efficiency of the Orange II dye is 100% and 95% after 240 min UV light irradiation and after 360 min visible light irradiation, respectively. The photocatalytic activity of the laminated structures was found to depend on the materials used to construct the h…
