Fewer women, than men, reach professorship at universities, and men on average also achieve this academic goal faster than women. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) mediate cell-to-cell crosstalk whose content can induce changes in acceptor cells and their microenvironment. MLP29 cells are mouse liver progenitor cells that release EVs loaded with signaling cues that could affect cell fate. In the current work, we incubated 3T3-L1 mouse fibroblasts with MLP29-derived EVs, and then analyzed changes by proteomics and transcriptomics. Results showed a general downregulation of protein and transcript expression related to proliferative and metabolic routes dependent on TGF-beta. Local validation of MODIS sensor sea surface temperature on western Mediterranean shallow waters

The sea surface temperature (SST) estimated from MODIS Aqua products (daytime and nighttime 11 μm and night 4 μm) has been correlated with field data taken at three depths (15, 50, 100 cm) in a Western Mediterranean coastal area. The comparison has allowed us to analyze the uncertainty in the estimation of this parameter in coastal waters using low spatial resolution satellite images. The results show that the daytime SST_11 μm product obtains fittest statistical values: RMSE (root mean square error) and r2 (Pearson’s correlation coefficient) of 1°C and 0.96, respectively, for 50 cm depth.

The insertion of a [Fe(sal_2 trien)]^+ complex cation into a 2D oxalate network in the presence of different solvents results in a family of hybrid magnets with coexistence of magnetic ordering and photoinduced spin crossover (LIESST effect) in compounds [Fe^{III}(sal_2 trien)][Mn^{II}Cr^{III}(ox)_3]·CHCl_3 (1·CHCl_{3}) [Fe^{III}(sal_{2} trien)][Mn^{II}Cr^{III}(ox)_{3}]·CHBr_{3} (1·CHBr_{3}) and [Fe^{III}(sal_{2} trien)][Mn^{II}Cr^{III}(ox)_{3}]·CH_{2}Br_{2} (1·CH_{2}Br_{2}). Injured Axons Instruct Schwann Cells to Build Constricting Actin Spheres to Accelerate Axonal Disintegration

Summary: After a peripheral nerve lesion, distal ends of injured axons disintegrate into small fragments that are subsequently cleared by Schwann cells and later by macrophages. Axonal debris clearing is an early step of the repair process that facilitates regeneration. We show here that Schwann cells promote distal cut axon disintegration for timely clearing. By combining cell-based and in vivo models of nerve lesion with mouse genetics, we show that this mechanism is induced by distal cut axons, which signal to Schwann cells through PlGF mediating the activation and upregulation of VEGFR1 in Schwann cells.
