<title>Reaction-diffusion electrical network for image processing</title>
2006
We consider an experimental setup, modelling the FitzHugh-Nagumo equation without recovery term and composed of a 1D nonlinear electrical network made up of discrete bistable cells, resistively coupled. In the first place, we study the propagation of topological fronts in the continuum limit, then in more discrete case. We propose to apply these results to the domain of signal processing. We show that erosion and dilation of a binary signal, can be obtained. Finally, we extend the study to 2D lattices and show that it can be of great interest in image processing techniques.© (2006) COPYRIGHT SPIE--The International Society for Optical Engineering. Noise Enhanced Stability in Fluctuating Metastable States
2004
We derive general equations for the nonlinear relaxation time of Brownian diffusion in randomly switching potential with a sink. For piece-wise linear dichotomously fluctuating potential with metastable state, we obtain the exact average lifetime as a function of the potential parameters and the noise intensity. Our result is valid for arbitrary white noise intensity and for arbitrary fluctuation rate of the potential. We find noise enhanced stability phenomenon in the system investigated: the average lifetime of the metastable state is greater than the time obtained in the absence of additive white noise. We obtain the parameter region of the fluctuating potential where the effect can be o…
Instability and bistability during the growth of a corrosion scale on metals and alloys
1986
This paper summarizes the main results for the interpretation of the self organized corrosion scales observed in oxidation or sulfidation of some metals or alloys. It consists also of a reconsideration of the classical theoretical concepts used in Reactivity of Solids. It proposes new theoretical tools that have been fruitfully utilized in other topics : non linear and coupled processes, stability analysis and bifurcation theory. Some examples are developed, where the corrosion kinetics at high temperature are interpreted in term of chemical bistable system able to oscillate spontaneously and mechanochemical couplings are also taken into account. In according with experimental results, all …
H<inf>&#x221E;</inf> control of markovian switching systems with time-delays: Applied to DC-DC converters
2011
The DC-DC switching power converters are highly nonlinear systems. Consequently, the conventional linear controls based on averaging and linearization techniques will result in poor dynamic performance or system instability. In order to resolve this problem, in this paper a robust state feedback H∞ control is proposed for these systems under Markovian switching with mixed discrete, neutral and distributed delays. Based on the Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional theory, some required sufficient conditions are established in terms of delay-dependent linear matrix inequalities for the stochastic stability and stabilization of the considered system using some free matrices. The desired control is de…
Mirror and triplet displacement energies within nuclear DFT: : numerical stability
2017
Isospin-symmetry-violating class II and III contact terms are introduced into the Skyrme energy density functional to account for charge dependence of the strong nuclear interaction. The two new coupling constants are adjusted to available experimental data on triplet and mirror displacement energies, respectively. We present preliminary results of the fit, focusing on its numerical stability with respect to the basis size.
Time integral and time differential Mössbauer measurements on [57Co/Mn(bipy)3](PF6)2
1994
The Mossbauer emission spectra of nucleogenic iron(II) complexes with a low spin (LS) ground state show two metastable iron(II) high spin (HS) states at low temperatures. In order to identify these metastable HS states, the compound [57Co/Mn(bipyridine)3](PF6)2 has been studied by time differential Mossbauer emission spectroscopy (TDMES) and optical lifetime measurements of excited electronic states in the corresponding Fe-doped Mn compound. The lifetime of one of the HS states of the nucleogenic iron(II) determined by TDMES has been measured to be the same as the lifetime of the laser-excited iron(II) electronic state.
Functional Analysis Method for Nonlinear Theory of Gyrotrons
2019
This paper proposes an analyzing method for the nonlinear theory of gyrotrons based on the functional analysis theory. This method is computationally efficient and highly practical, and the results have good accuracy as that of the self-consistent theory. Moreover, the stability of the gyrotron can be easily analyzed by the trajectory of the mapped efficiency space based on the fixed point of the functional analysis theory. The validity and effectiveness of the presented method are verified by the results of self-consistent theory and experiments presented in the references, such as typical examples of gyrotrons working at various frequencies and modes.
Effect of ion irradiation on the stability of amorphous Ge2Sb2Te5 thin films
2008
The archival life of phase-change memories (PCM) is determined by the thermal stability of amorphous phase in a crystalline matrix. In this paper, we report the effect of ion beam irradiation on the crystallization kinetics of amorphous Ge2Sb2Te5 alloy (GST). The transition rate of amorphous GST films was measured by in situ time resolved reflectivity (TRR). The amorphous to crystal transformation time decreases considerably in irradiated amorphous GST samples when ion fluence increases. The stability of amorphous Ge2Sb2Te5 thin films subjected to ion irradiation is discussed in terms of the free energy variation of the amorphous state because of damage accumulation. © 2008 Elsevier B.V. Effect of double frequency heating on the lead afterglow beam currents of an electron cyclotron resonance ion source
2017
International audience; The effect of double frequency heating on the performance of the CERN GTS-LHC 14.5 GHz ElectronCyclotron Resonance (ECR) ion source in afterglow mode is reported. The source of the secondary microwave frequency was operated both in pulsed and continuous wave (CW) modes within the range of 12–18 GHz. The results demonstrate that the addition of the secondary frequency can significantly impact the extracted beam currents and the temporal stability of the beam during the afterglow discharge. For example, up to a factor of 2.6 increase was achieved for 208Pb35+ and a factor of 3.1 for 208Pb37+ compared to single frequency afterglow currents. It is shown that these effect…
A study of solar thermal absorber stack based on CrAlSiNx/CrAlSiNxOy structure by ion beams
2019
Renewable energies are foreseen as a major energy resource for next generations. Among several energy sources and technologies available, Concentrated Solar Power (CSP) technology has a great potential, but it needs to be optimised, in particular to reduce the costs, with an increase of the operating temperature and long term stability. This goal can be achieved by tailoring the composition and multilayer structure of films. In this work we present and discuss the results obtained from solar absorber coatings based on nitride/oxynitride structures. A four-layer film structure, W/CrAlSiNx(HA)/CrAlSiNxOy(LA)/SiAlOx, was deposited on stainless steel substrates using magnetron sputtering deposi…
