Novel hydrogels based on a polyasparthydrazide. Synthesis and characterization

α,β-polyasparthydrazide (PAHy), a synthetic water-soluble biocompatible polymer, was chemically crosslinked with ethyleneglycol diglycidylether (EGDGE), in order to obtain water swellable microparticies. These were characterized by means of FT-IR spectrophotometry and by means of particle size distribution analysis. The mean pore size of the prepared gels as various crosslinking ratios and the fractal dimensions were determined by light scattering measurements. Background— Estrogens can upregulate endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) in human endothelial cells by increasing eNOS promoter activity and enhancing the binding activity of the transcription factor Sp1. Resveratrol, a polyphenolic phytoalexin found in grapes and wine, has been reported to act as an agonist at the estrogen receptor. Therefore, we tested the effect of this putative phytoestrogen on eNOS expression in human endothelial cells. Non-separable local polynomial regression cell-average multiresolution operators. Application to compression of images

Abstract Cell-average multiresolution Harten׳s algorithms have been satisfactorily used to compress data. These schemes are based on two operators: decimation and prediction. The accuracy of the method depends on the prediction operator. In order to design a precise function, local polynomial regression has been used in the last years. This paper is devoted to construct a family of non-separable two-dimensional linear prediction operators approximating the real values with this procedure. Some properties are proved as the order of the scheme and the stability. Some numerical experiments are performed comparing the new methods with the classical linear method.

Polynomial Fuzzy Models for Nonlinear Control: A Taylor Series Approach

Classical Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy models are formed by convex combinations of linear consequent local models. Such fuzzy models can be obtained from nonlinear first-principle equations by the well-known sector-nonlinearity modeling technique. This paper extends the sector-nonlinearity approach to the polynomial case. This way, generalized polynomial fuzzy models are obtained. The new class of models is polynomial, both in the membership functions and in the consequent models. Importantly, T-S models become a particular case of the proposed technique. On specific stability bounds for linear multiresolution schemes based on piecewise polynomial Lagrange interpolation

Abstract The Deslauriers–Dubuc symmetric interpolation process can be considered as an interpolatory prediction scheme within Harten's framework. In this paper we express the Deslauriers–Dubuc prediction operator as a combination of either second order or first order differences. Through a detailed analysis of certain contractivity properties, we arrive to specific l ∞ -stability bounds for the multiresolution transform. A variety of tests indicate that these l ∞ bounds are closer to numerical estimates than those obtained with other approaches.

An approach that is able to obtain the stochastic characteristics in terms of, stochastic momen.ts of a SDOF system excited by loads due to a fluid-structure mteraction is presented. In This approach the fluid horizontal velocity is considered as a filtered white noise, and the actual load expression is replaced by a Thirddegree polynomial of this velocity. The tools needed to p.romptly obtain the filters parameters and the equations governing the response moments are also presented; in particular, if the structure is sufficiently stiff, It is shown that these equations do not need any closure scheme III order to be solved. © ASCE.

Recycling of compatibilized and uncompatibilized nylon/polypropylene blends

The recycling of compatibilized and uncompatibilized nylon6/polypropylene blends has been carried out by repetitive extrusions. The change of the properties of the blends is a function not only of the number of reprocessing steps but also of the type of compatibilizer. The worsening of the mechanical properties is small and, indeed, some improvement can be observed after one or two extrusion steps for some blends. Thermal stability of PP with acetylated sisal fiber: Romero Garc�a kinetic method

This work deals the effect of acetylated and non-acetylated sisal fiber 011 thermal degradation of polypropylene. Applying the R-G method at constant conversion levels of 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7 and 0.9 to thermograms of the ”PP/untreated sisal fiber” blend, E, values of 99, 213, 224, 187, and 145 kJ/mol were obtained, whereas they were 99, 299, 255, 205, 154 kJ/mol for the “PP/treated sisal fiber” blend.
