In this paper we analyse the effect of constitutional structures over policy outcomes. In particular, we exploit the heterogeneity in parliamentary systems deriving from the presence and the use of the confidence vote to investigate whether stable and unstable parliamentary systems behave differently in terms of the policies they implement. This finer partition of parliamentary systems allows us to identify effects that are more robust than the ones previously discussed in the literature. Farsighted R&D networks

We analyze the formation of bilateral R&D collaborations in an oligopoly when each firm benefits from the research done by other firms it is connected to. In contrast to myopic stability, farsighted stability leads to R&D networks consisting of two minimally connected components, with the largest one comprising three-quarters of firms.

Kinematic splitting algorithm for fluid–structure interaction in hemodynamics

Abstract In this paper we study a kinematic splitting algorithm for fluid–structure interaction problems. This algorithm belongs to the class of loosely-coupled fluid–structure interaction schemes. We will present stability analysis for a coupled problem of non-Newtonian shear-dependent fluids in moving domains with viscoelastic boundaries. Fluid flow is described by the conservation laws with nonlinearities in convective and diffusive terms. Numerical propagator method solutions for the linear parabolic initial boundary-value problems

On the base of our numerical propagator method a new finite volume difference scheme is proposed for solution of linear initial-boundary value problems. Stability of the scheme is investigated taking into account the obtained analytical solution of the initial-boundary value problems. It is shown that stability restrictions for the propagator scheme become weaker in comparison to traditional semi-implicit difference schemes. There are some regions of coefficients, for which the elaborated propagator difference scheme becomes absolutely stable. It is proven that the scheme is unconditionally monotonic. Dynamic analysis for axially moving viscoelastic panels

In this study, stability and dynamic behaviour of axially moving viscoelastic panels are investigated with the help of the classical modal analysis. We use the flat panel theory combined with the Kelvin–Voigt viscoelastic constitutive model, and we include the material derivative in the viscoelastic relations. Complex eigenvalues for the moving viscoelastic panel are studied with respect to the panel velocity, and the corresponding eigenfunctions are found using central finite differences. The occurrence of system separations in the power system of Continental Europe has been observed in recent decades as a critical event which might cause power imbalances higher than the reference incident specified per system design, representing an actual challenge for the stability and safe operation of the system. Three-mode pneumatic management of marine U-tank systems

Abstract This paper deals with a new pneumatic control strategy for the roll damping enhancement of marine U-tank stabilizers. The proposed technique consists in a three-mode operation, where the control is active only within a limited resonant range around the ship natural frequency, whereas the control valves are kept closed in the remaining frequency range. Moreover the connection valve between the two air chambers is either closed or partially opened for the low or high frequencies, respectively.
