Prnu Pattern Alignment for Images and Videos Based on Scene Content

This paper proposes a novel approach for registering the PRNU pattern between different camera acquisition modes by relying on the imaged scene content. First, images are aligned by establishing correspondences between local descriptors: The result can then optionally be refined by maximizing the PRNU correlation. Comparative evaluations show that this approach outperforms those based on brute-force and particle swarm optimization in terms of reliability, accuracy and speed. The proposed scene-based approach for PRNU pattern alignment is suitable for video source identification in multimedia forensics applications.

Safeguarding the historic town of San Fratello, Sicily

The paper presents the case history of San Fratello, a small town on the Nebrodi Mountains in Sicily rich in history and with very peculiar environmental and cultural characteristics. Both slopes of the narrow ridge where San Fratello is seated had been affected in 1754, 1922, 1986 and 2010 by very large landslides which caused the failure of a lot of buildings and historical monuments in the town. The paper illustrates the analyses carried out in the 2010 landslide and the design of stabilization works still in progress. Some problematic aspects related to the decision to safeguard San Fratello are discussed.

AbstractAs detailed in Part 1, the most common Italian Technical Specifications refer to different design methodologies for design of lime-soil mixtures, some being quite different from those internationally adopted. Therefore, it seemed appropriate to the Authors to compare these methodologies, via a wide experimental program.It is shown that the Italian methodology of the National Road Agency is different not only from those used in Italy, but also from the main international standards. The experimental results highlight that a revision of that methodology is needed in order to bring it into line with what is prescribed by the European standard.
Understanding Economic Growth in Ghana in Comparative Perspective

Ghana has experienced a decade of solid and exceptionally high growth. Between 2005 and 2015, income nearly doubled. This paper analyzes the factors driving this impressive growth performance, using tools such as structural change decompositions and growth regressions. For the comparative perspective, the paper compares Ghana with its structural and aspirational peers. The paper finds that the contribution of structural change to growth has been limited and attributes this to labor that was freed up in agriculture not being absorbed by high-productivity sectors. Active monetary policy and instability in a phillips curve system

The presence of nonlinearities in a Phillips curve system yields to complex dynamics, i.e., cyclical behavior that may (under some parametric set) become chaotic. This paper extends these conclusions by including an active monetary policy. We show how stabilization policy may lead to amplified instabilities and that agents' expectations tend to play a key role in the amount of these instabilities.
