Adjuvant denosumab in early breast-cancer

2020

We read with interest the D-CARE trial report by Robert Coleman and colleagues1 on the adjuvant administration of denosumab in patients with early-stage breast cancer. Despite the negative results, which pose concerns about high dose denosumab schedules in an adjuvant setting, this large and well- designed trial can provide useful clinical data that are usually difficult to obtain from observational studies, particularly regarding medication- related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ).

Early stage screening of breast cancer using electrochemical biomarker detection

2017

Recently researchers have driven their attention in the development of biosensors for breast cancer detection using different biomarkers. This review reports a systematic study of the usefulness of marker-based electrochemical biosensors in breast cancer and its early diagnosis. Also, various types of electro-analytical methods for early stage screening of breast cancer were discussed. The emphasis is placed on immune-, geno- cyto- and enzyme-biosensing strategies. In addition, the advantages offered by some nano-materials in detection of breast cancer biomarkers are illustrated with representative recent examples that highlight the scientific interest in widening the use of new materials/m…

Cancer of Exocrine Pancreas

2021

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma represents today a real challenge for oncologists all around the world: it is the 11th most common cancer worldwide, and the 7th deadliest, with a steadily increasing number of new cases every year. Many risk factors, both environmental and genetic, have been identified, the most important of which are excessive body weight, diabetes, and smoking; also, new diagnostic techniques, such as spiral TC, MRCP, and EUS, have improved the ability to diagnose this disease at an early stage. Nevertheless, pancreatic cancer is a silent disease, with few or no symptoms and signs until late stages: the vast majority of patients are inoperable at the time of diagnosis, with eith…

Current challenges in metastasis: Disseminated and circulating tumor cells detection

2014

Metastatic dissemination of the primary tumor is responsible for the majority of cancer-related morbidity and mortality. Detection of disseminated tumor cells in the bone marrow and circulating tumor cells in the peripheral blood is associated with early metastatic recurrence in cancer. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) shed from the site of disease in metastatic or primary tumor that can be recognized and enriched in the peripheral blood of cancer patients. The detection of rare circulating tumor cells (CTC) is an objective of numerous oncologists' researches. Circulating tumor cells have the potential to help to detect cancer recurrence at its earlier stage, determine therapy resistance befo…

Second follow-up of a German cohort on childhood cancer incidence after exposure to postnatal diagnostic x-ray.

2019

Studies on children exposed to ionizing radiation by computed tomography (CT) indicate an increased risk of leukemia and central nervous system (CNS) tumors. Evidence of the risks associated with diagnostic X-ray examinations, the most frequent examination in pediatric radiology, in which the radiation dose is up to 750 times lower compared to CT examinations, is less clear.a#13; This study presents results of the second follow-up for the risk of childhood cancer in a cohort of children (alt;15 years) with diagnostic X-ray exposure at a large German hospital during 1976-2003 followed for additional 10 years until 2016.a#13; With a latency period of six months, 92,998 children contributed 79…

Mosaic Study: Actualization of Overall Survival (Os) with 10 Years Follow Up and Evaluation of Braf. By Gercor and Mosaic Investigators

2014

ABSTRACT Aim: The MOSAIC study (Andre T, N Engl J Med, 2004) has demonstrated in patients with stage II/III resected colon cancer (CC) a benefit of oxaliplatin added to 5FU and LV (LV5FU) in 3-year disease-free survival (DFS) and in overal survival (OS). LV5FU and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX4) has also shown a benefit in deficient MisMatch Repair (dMMR) CC pts (Flejou JF, J Clin Oncol 31: 2013;suppl; abstr 3524). We report here 1) Results of MOSAIC after 10 year follow-up, and 2) results in the BRAF evaluable population. Methods: Of the 2246 patients included in the MOSAIC study (whole population), the actualization of survival data was done with 10 yrs follow up. Formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded …

Impact of neoadjuvant chemotherapy on survival in breast cancer patients in daily practice: a population-based study

2013

This population-based study aimed to describe the effects of neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NC) on survival in breast cancer (BC) patients in daily practice. BC patients treated with NC followed by surgery and radiotherapy, were retrospectively selected from 1982 to 2005 using the Cote d’Or BC registry. These patients were matched for the baseline AJCC (American Joint Committee on Cancer) stage, age at diagnosis, date of diagnosis and oestrogens receptors status to those who had undergone surgery followed by adjuvant chemotherapy and radiotherapy. The prognostic effect of NC on survival in BC patients was assessed with relative survival (RS) analyses. From 1982 to 2005, 210 patients with BC diag…
