Research on Unrealistic Optimism among HoReCa Workers as a Possible Future Hotspot of Infections

2021

As we are facing a new surge of the highly infectious delta variant of COVID-19, there is an urgent need for research to reduce the harm before this next wave hits. In the present paper, we present data that is alarming. We have found that HoReCa (hotels, restaurants, and catering services) workers, who are highly exposed to many new social interactions in close contact, present an unrealistic optimism (UO) bias: they perceive themselves as less at risk to this virus in comparison to others. From the literature, we already know that individuals holding this view are less involved in preventive actions and present more risky behaviors. In the face of the delta variant, this leads to the conc…

Digitalization and sustainability: virtual reality tourism in a post pandemic world

2022

The government-imposed COVID-19 pandemic control measures brought the tourism sector to a complete halt. However, virtual reality (VR) tourism offered people a way to escape the isolation. Media reports and research have noted heightened activity in VR tourism, which has been touted as “alternative tourism” and “eco-tourism”. However, scholars have yet to determine whether this shift is temporary or will persist after the pandemic is over. Questions also remain regarding the factors driving this behaviour. The present study uses stimulus-organism-response theory (SOR) to propose a sequential mechanism of the interplay of antecedents and outcomes, theorising VR tourism as a sustainable touri…

Corporate social responsibility in supply chain

2020

The aim of the paper is to present a concept of Corporate Social Responsibility (hereafter, CSR) in supply chain. We discuss the idea of CSR and present examples of practices towards CSR based on enterprises gathered in some supply chains. As we can see, in today’s business world, growing attention is being paid on the business concept Corporate Social Responsibility, mostly because of environmental concerns, regulatory impacts, commercial benefits and reputation in front of the society. Increasing number of companies initiates and implements practices considered as CSR activities. The concept of CSR is very important from perspective of sustainable supply chain.

Sustainability Reporting in Latvia: Management Views

2017

Sustainability reporting in Latvia is a comparatively recent development. In spite of a growing number of companies undertaking different social responsibility activities, only few of them report this. Mostly, companies choose to communicate their sustainability activities through their web page. Mainly large companies with considerable environmental and social impact and listed joint-stock companies, which are required to do so by stock exchange regulation, undertake efforts to communicate their responsibility activities.

Correlation between relative sunshine and state of the sky

1981

Abstract It is possible to construct a sunshine map referring to a large zone, lacking in a widespread network of recording stations, correlating the relative sunshine with the “state of the sky”, defined by the monthly mean number of the clear, mixed and overcast days, whose data are more largely available. In the correlation here proposed climatological and meteorological factors are introduced in order to express the helioclimatic characteristics of every location. The application to Italy, using the data of the period 1973–1977 provided by the 31 stations of ITAV, has suggested the classification of these stations in seven “helioclimatic groups” characterized by different values of the …

Contribution to the study of physico-chemical properties of surfaces modified by last treatment : application to the enhancement of localized corrosi…

2011

Metallic materials are more and more used in severe conditions with particularly strong request for improving their behavior in aggressive environment and especially over long periods. The objective of this PhD work is to estimate the potentiality of a laser surface melting treatment on the improvement of the stainless steel 304L corrosion resistance, surface treatments by laser can be revisited on the basis of a recent change in the laser technology. In the frame of this work, a nano-pulsed laser fiber was chosen : it allows the treated surface to be melted for few microns in depth, followed by an ultra-fast solidification occuring with cooling rates up to 1011 K/s. The combination of thes…

Co-deposition and characterization of hydroxyapatite-chitosan and hydroxyapatite-polyvinylacetate coatings on 304 SS for biomedical devices

2019

During the last decades, biomaterials have been deeply studied to fabricate and improve coatings for biomedical devices. Metallic materials, especially in the orthopedic field, represent the most common materials used for different type of devices thanks to their good mechanical properties. Nevertheless, low/medium resistance to corrosion and low osteointegration ability characterizes these materials. To overcome these problems, the use of biocoatings on metals substrate is largely diffused. In fact, biocoatings have a key role to confer biocompatibility features, to inhibit corrosion and thus improve the lifetime of implanted devices. In this work, the attention was focused on Hydroxyapati…

Studio della resistenza alla corrosione di acciai impiegati nell’industria alimentare e delle bevande

2020

In the present study we performed the physico-chemical characterization of passive films grown on different stainless steel grades after long exposure time in hot purified water (HPW). In order to get more insight into dissolution phenomena that can induce rouging on equipment materials typically involved in food and beverage industries, 304L, 316L and a super duplex 2507 SS samples were passivated at the open circuit potential by different immersion times in HPW at 60°C. Photoelectrochemical and Electrochemical Impedance measurements were performed in the attempt to correlate the electronic properties of the passive films (band gap and conductivity type) to their corrosion resistance.

DISTRIBUTISM - WAY FOR SUSTAINABLE ECONOMIC RECOVERY

2013

As history of the last centuries has shown, the capitalism and the communism are generating economic crisis, in connection with a deeper crisis, i.e. the spiritual crisis, driven by the tendency of man’s massification,, by which his spiritual qualities are strongly tainted over time. Distributism, promoting widespread ownership of productive ownership, is the only economic frame adequate to the anthropology of the person, namely of a true man.
