Flow cytometric analysis of concanavalin A binding to isolated Golgi fractions from rat liver.

1993

Flow cytometry (FCM) has been used repeatedly to study lectin binding to whole cells. However, there are very few attempts to analyze glycoconjugates in isolated subcellular organelles. We have applied FCM to quantitate the specific binding of fluorescein-conjugated concanavalin A (FITC-Con A) to isolated cis and trans fractions of rat liver Golgi complex, the cell compartment involved in glycoprotein maturation and sorting. Our results show similar intensities of Con A-specific binding in the two fractions. Using this method we show a decreased FITC-Con A binding to both Golgi fractions in ethanol-treated rats, which is consistent to previous work on alcoholic effects on galactosyltransfer…

Glutathione-dependent formaldehyde dehydrogenase (ADH3) and low km mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2). New evidence for differential expres…

2011

Epidemiological and experimental studies support the involvement of lipid peroxidation (LPO) in retinal diseases. In addition to other pathogenic mechanisms not fully understood, the possibility remains that peroxidic aldehydes, acting as cytotoxic chemicals, mediate in the progression of chronic ocular disorders. To test proper mechanisms involved in removing peroxidic aldehydes from the retina, in an attempt to understand long-lasting changes induced by LPO, the oxidative and antioxidant enzymatic activities, as well as the retinal distribution and activity of glutathione-dependent formaldehyde dehydrogenase (ADH3) and low km mitochondrial aldehyde dehydrogenase (ALDH2), were studied and c…

Alessandro Costariol. 永远的视觉设计师 / Alessandro Costariol. Remote future visual designer

2010

If you could define a person with only one term, to have a concise, sharp and lapidary picture of him, then I think the word I'd choose to refer to Alessandro Costariol, is timeless. This is a rather recent term, coined in the twentieth century, expression of contemporaneity, recurrent in the philosophical and linguistic fields, which marks a break in continuity between object and time, giving the first a privileged status that allows it to cross the second, ign…

The diamond partial order for strong Rickart rings

2016

The diamond partial order has been first introduced for matrices, and then discussed also in the general context of *-regular rings. We extend this notion to Rickart rings, and state various properties of the diamond order living on the so-called strong Rickart rings. In particular, it is compared with the weak space preorder and the star order; also existence of certain meets and joins under diamond order is discussed.

Quantum Groups, Star Products and Cyclic Cohomology

1993

After some historical remarks, we start with a rapid overview of the star-product theory (deformation of algebras of functions on phase space) and its applications to deformation-quantization. We then concentrate on Poisson-Lie groups and their “quantization”, give a star-product realization of quantum groups and discuss uniqueness and the rigidity as bialgebra of a universal model for the quantum SL(2) groups. In the last part we develop the notion of closed star-product (for which a trace can be defined on the algebra), show that it is classified by cyclic cohomology, permits to define a character and that there always exists one; finally we show that the pseudodifferential calculus on a …

Analytic vectors, anomalies and star representations

1989

It is hinted that anomalies are not really anomalous since (at least in characteristic examples) they can be related to a lack of common analytic vectors for the Hamiltonian and the observables. We reanalyze the notions of analytic vectors and of local representations of Lie algebras in this light, and show how the notion of preferred observables introduced in the deformation (star product) approach to quantization may help give an anomaly-free formulation to physical problems. Finally, some remarks are made concerning the applicability of these considerations to field theory, especially in two dimensions.

RETRACTED ARTICLE: Volume replacement with HES 130/0.4 may reduce the inflammatory response in patients undergoing major abdominal surgery

2003

Rapid vascularization of starchâ poly(caprolactone) in vivo by outgrowth endothelial cells in co-culture with primary osteoblasts

2011

The successful integration of in vitro-generated tissues is dependent on adequate vascularization in vivo. Human outgrowth endothelial cells (OECs) isolated from the mononuclear cell fraction of peripheral blood represent a potent population of circulating endothelial progenitors that could provide a cell source for rapid anastomosis and scaffold vascularization. Our previous work with these cells in co-culture with primary human osteoblasts has demonstrated their potential to form perfused vascular structures within a starch–poly(caprolactone) biomaterial in vivo. In the present study, we demonstrate the ability of OECs to form perfused vascular structures as early as 48 h following subcut…
