Measuring the spin up of the Accreting Millisecond Pulsar XTE J1751-305

2007

We perform a timing analysis on RXTE data of the accreting millisecond pulsar XTE J1751-305 observed during the April 2002 outburst. After having corrected for Doppler effects on the pulse phases due to the orbital motion of the source, we performed a timing analysis on the phase delays, which gives, for the first time for this source, an estimate of the average spin frequency derivative = (3.7 +/- 1.0)E-13 Hz/s. We discuss the torque resulting from the spin-up of the neutron star deriving a dynamical estimate of the mass accretion rate and comparing it with the one obtained from X-ray flux. Constraints on the distance to the source are discussed, leading to a lower limit of \sim 6.7 kpc.

Real-Time SRAM Based Particle Detector

2015

International audience; Monitoring radiative environments is of great importance, especially for facilities hosting large particle accelerators and nuclear power plants. Such facilities make use of monitoring systems that are usually composed of different sensors to evaluate the intensity of the ambient radiation field in different locations. In this paper, we propose an SRAM-based monitor that works in dynamic mode (memory continuously accessed), according to data gathered by irradiating our sensor in several particle accelerator facilities. The dynamic mode of operation allows for real-time sensing, especially when the particle fluence is high. In order to ensure the efficiency of the det…

Electrooptic beam deflection with latex

1988

The use of latex in electrooptic devices is proposed. The static non linearity coefficient is shown to be approximatively 200 times the optical one. The theory of a beam deflector is developed and an explicit expression is given for the deflection angle versus the physical parameters of the sample Utilisation de suspensions aqueuses de latex dans un dispositif electro-optique. On montre que le coefficient statique de non-linearite devrait etre 200 fois plus eleve que le coefficient optique. Application a un deflecteur optique

Physiologically-Based Pharmacokinetic/Pharmacodynamic Model of MBQ-167 to Predict Tumor Growth Inhibition in Mice

2020

MBQ-167 is a dual inhibitor of the Rho GTPases Rac and Cdc42 that has shown promising results as an anti-cancer therapeutic at the preclinical stage. This drug has been tested in vitro and in vivo in metastatic breast cancer mouse models. The aim of this study is to develop a physiologically based pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic (PBPK-PD) model of MBQ-167 to predict tumor growth inhibition following intraperitoneal (IP) administration in mice bearing Triple Negative and HER2+ mammary tumors. PBPK and Simeoni tumor growth inhibition (TGI) models were developed using the Simcyp V19 Animal Simulator. Our developed PBPK framework adequately describes the time course of MBQ-167 in each of the mo…

Moderate-Vigorous Physical Activity across Body Mass Index in Females : Moderating Effect of Endocannabinoids and Temperament

2014

Altres ajuts: This manuscript was supported by grants from Instituto Salud Carlos III (FIS PI11/210 and CIBERobn). Sarah Sauchelli is recipient of a pre-doctoral Grant (2013-17) by IDIBELL. Jose C. Fernández-García is recipient of a 'Rio Hortega' contract from 'Instituto de Salud Carlos III', Madrid, Spain (CM12/00059). The funders had no role in the study design, data collection and analysis, decision to publish, or preparation of the manuscript. Endocannabinoids and temperament traits have been linked to both physical activity and body mass index (BMI) however no study has explored how these factors interact in females. The aims of this cross-sectional study were to 1) examine differences…

A unified approach to quasi-static shakedown problems for elastic-plastic solids with piecewise linear yield surface

1978

The paper concerns shakedown analysis of elastic-plastic bodies subjected to quasi-statically varying loads within a given domain. Using a perturbation method, a general inequality is given, from which, by simply specializing the perturbing terms, the generalized Melan theorem as well as bounds on various deformation parameters (such as displacements or plastic strain intensities) are derived. The solution of the «perturbed» shakedown problem in finite or holonimic terms permits the bound to be the most stringent and expressible in «local» terms instead of integral terms. A simple application concludes the paper.

Shakedown of Structures Subjected to Dynamic External Actions and Related Bounding Techniques

2002

The shakedown theory for dynamic external actions is expounded considering elastic-plastic internal-variable material models endowed with hardening saturation surface and assuming small displacements and strains as long with negligible effects of temperature variations on material data. Two sorts of dynamic shakedown theories are presented, i.e.: i) Unrestricted dynamic shakedown, in which the structure is subjected to (unknown) sequences of short-duration excitations belonging to a known excitation domain, with no-load no-motion time periods in between and for which a unified framework with quasi-static shakedown is presented; and ii) Restricted dynamic shakedown, in which the structure is…

An infinite-horizon model of dynamic membership of international environmental agreements

2007

Abstract Much of the literature on international environmental agreements (IEAs) uses static models, although most important transboundary pollution problems involve stock pollutants. The few papers that study IEAs using models of stock pollutants do not allow for the possibility that membership of the IEA may change endogenously over time. In this paper we analyse a simple infinite-horizon version of the static model of self-enforcing IEAs, in which damage costs increase with the stock of pollution, and countries decide each period whether to join an IEA. Using a quadratic approximation of the value function of the representative country we show that there exists a steady-state stock of po…

Surface charge, effective charge and dispersion/aggregation properties of nanoparticles

2003

A careful investigation of the relationship between surface properties and colloidal behaviour of nanometric particles in concentrated media has shed some light on the important parameters that must be controlled in order to improve the dispersion of mineral particles. Experimental methods such as rheology and osmometry reveal that the aggregation/dispersion process is not only a matter of electrostatics as stated by classical theories. In practice, the relationship between the surface charge and the state of dispersion is probably much less straightforward than generally assumed by the classical argument stating that the higher the surface charge, the higher the electrostatic repulsion bet…
